The MG 08/15 was a German "Light Machine Gun" designed as a
quick response to the growing amount of LMGs in use by the Entente,
giving Germany more mobile firepower to match them.

Calling this thing a light machine gun is... not fitting.
"Lightened Heavy Machine Gun" is certainly better.

It weighs 39.2 lbs (17.8 kg) with an empty water jacket, and no ammo.
when loaded and watered, it weighs 48.5 lbs (22 kg)
unlike the MG 08 with its big mount, this is much more portable. its still not light though.
for comparison, the next heaviest LMG is the Lewis Gun at 28 lbs (12.7 kg) unloaded.

How to Load and Fire:
Insert Magazine
Pull open tab on the magazine, this lets it feed ammo into the gun
Push Operating handle forward
Fire

C&Rsenal did a series called 'Project lightening' taking a look at various WW1 machine guns,
such as the BAR 1918, MG 08/15, Hotchkiss mk1*, Chauchat (8mm Lebel), Chauchat (.30-06),
the Lewis Gun and the Madsen.

The MG 08/15 did alright, but its central bi pod made it hard to get a good group with
because the gun was constantly rocking up and down.
The massive weight of this gun was also a bit of an issue.
However it does have 100 rounds, over twice as much as the Lewis Gun's 47 rounds,
so even while having a slow reload with that belt/magazine, you still get A LOT of firepower.

The MG 08/15's bi pod position meant it had decent sweep, but poor stability.
With the bi pod removed and the gun resting on top of a log or some sandbags,
its actually quite controllable.


I wasn't able to make the loading process completely realistic,
with the real 08/15, you needed hold the handle forward,
yank the belt through the action, let the bolt go, and repeat that 1 more time.
aside from being a two handed operation, (kinda impossible to do with 1 cursor)
I have no idea how to make that, this is good enough for me. :P

I recommend disabling hovering highlights, it lets you see the gun a lot better.
Open pause menu, go to Settings, and in 'General' there is 'Show hovering highlights'.
