HOW TO DEAL WITH SECURE BOOT ISSUES
由 Nom 制作
If you have ever gotten the fatal error "This game requires SecureBoot on Capable hardware" for The Finals, you probably also wanted to run naked at the cops with a pair of scissors like I did (Im too much of a coward to go alone and I know they wont miss here in America).

So here is a guide that works better than the embark FAQ to solve this utterly garbage issue that life shouldn't be making you deal with right now.

Step By Step Guide:
HEY! I HAVE A SOLUTION!
---------------------Step 1: Dont go to embark for help on this issue-----------------------

//TLDR: Their page sucks and it isnt a wonder why most players feel left in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dark, so dont use it and go to step 2.

//Anecdote: The link on the embark website for "secure boot" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bogus and obtuse. Their instructions to enable Secure boot are as simple as:
"If you find the Secure Boot setting, try to set it to "Enabled". Sometimes, there's an option called "Custom" where you can load Secure Boot keys that are already in your computer"
Many BIOS interfaces do not even have an "enable" button for secure boot, as it was in my case, and sadly setting the boot setting to "Custom" does not always work. They also do not tell you at all how to reset your bios if there are issues (which you may need to do as I did). Lastly, their support team aren't coders and aren't computer mechanics, they often dont have any more of an idea of what the issue is than you do.

//Here is the Embark link [id.embark.games] in question. Dont use it. (as of March 4, 2025 this link no longer works! Just trust that it was as helpful then as it currently is now.)

----------------------Step 2: Check the status of secure boot -------------------------

//First you need to cut out the bs and just see if secure boot is even enabled on your pc. There is a VERY simple way of doing this that embark never tells you.

//FOR WINDOWS:

1. Go to your start menu and type in "system information" - If this gives you trouble, just type the word "run" into the start menu instead and select it. Then when the run window opens, paste "msinfo32" into the open space and press enter. 2. Now a list of values and items will appear, you need to look for these two values[imgur.com] from the list: "Secure boot state" and "BIOS Mode". - THESE ARE THE ONLY VALUES ON THE PLANET THAT MATTER. Odds are your BIOS Mode is set to UEFI which is fine, and the Secure Boot State is OFF. Clearly this option needs to be ON. But now you have a way to be 100% sure if it is working or not.

---------------Step 3: How to restart the BIOS and enable Secure boot ---------------

//It is best practice to make sure your settings are operating at default values before making changes, so we will reset them first to eliminate anomalies that could also cause issues. (you can skip this part and go to step 6 if you are confident, go with God).

1. From the start menu, type in "Settings" and go to System > Recovery (or recovery options). - You may not see the "Recovery options" option at first, if this is an issue, try typing it into the search bar at the top left. 2. Under Recovery options, find "Advanced setup" and select "Restart now". 3. After your device restarts, a new options window will open. From it, select the "Troubleshoot" option. 4. Select Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings. 5. Select Restart. 6. After this is done, your BIOS should open by itself. If it does not, open it yourself and then navigate to your "Boot" Menu. 7. From here, odds are you simply need to change your "OS TYPE" option to "Windowed UEFI Mode" and select "custom".[imgur.com] - I personally selected "custom" and it worked for me but I believe the "standard" option might be needed depending on your machine. Just try both and see what works. 8. Save and restart. Then check to see if the "Secure Boot State" has changed to "On" by using the method in step 2.

-------------------------------------Step 4: Guess and check -----------------------------------

//Now it is just a matter of trial and error. Remember, your BIOS often offers information on the options you are changing when you select them. READ THOSE BLURBS if you are having troubles with this.

//Here are the links to the resources I used to make this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ manifesto, here is hoping no one has to suffer from this ♥♥♥♥ any more:

------------------------------------------FINAL NOTE----------------------------------------------

//Apparently, there was also an issue with my account on the security team's end of all people. They had some issue with my linked account as my build requests were being denied. Might want to also open a support ticket to be on the safe side if even these changes arent working
