A quick guide for playing as beipiaosaurus

This guide will give you some hints on how to play as The Isle's penguin, the beipiaosaurus.

Beipiaosaurus in real life

Beipiaosaurus was a therizinnosaurian dinosaur from the early cretacious period. Beipiaosaurus was found in the Yixian formation in China. The name beipiaosaurus means "Beipiao lizard", Beipiao being a city in China near which the beipiaosaurus holotype was found. The only species is B. inexpectus, which means "unexpected" in latin.

Beipiaosaurus in The Isle

In The Isle beipiaosaurus (A.K.A. beipi A.K.A. beepi) is depicted as a semi-aquatic omnivore, which can eat plants and small animals, including crabs (or false crabs, who knows), small ray-finned fish and some small dinosaurs, like compsognathus. In water, beipiaosaurus swims much faster than most other creatures, with the only creature capable of outswimming beipiaosaurus being deinosuchus*. In my opinion, beipiaosaurus in The Isle is very similar to a penguin.



*Beipiaosaurus' surface swimming speed was heavily nerfed in the mutation update, so this applies only in cases where you are swimming underwater.

Mechanics

Diving
When you are swimming, hold Ctrl to submerge into the water. When diving, you can move in all directions.

Accelerating
To accelerate while swimming, go underwater, hold W, hold Spacebar and hold LShift. you will start jumping out of the water, which makes a lot of noise, but you start swimming much faster. This technique is also useful to attack flying pteranodons.

Clinging
When you are near the bottom of a water body, hold LCtrl to cling onto it. When you are clinging, you dont float up, but your stamina does not restore.

Foraging
When clinged onto the bottom of a water body, hold Q to use your scent. If you are an adult, you will see a bubble sign on your compass. Slowly go towards the bubbles and hold E to get yourself a free crab (crabs are one of your preferred foods)

Survival as a beipiaosaurus

It is best to spawn at swamp, since surviving there as a beipiaosaurus is very easy. First, you need to find schooling fish or some edible plants, or else you might starve to death. Your first mutation should be hydrodinamic because in the mutation update.

When you are sure that you are satiated enough to survive, you can choose 2 options. You may either go to the migration zone, which is usually at the riverdelta biome, or stay at the swamp. Its recommended to eat something that is in your preferred food list, as it will speed up your growth.

Note that riverdelta is a dangerous place, because you may be killed by almost anything, especially when you are a juvenile. Its best to spend most time at the water's surface/underwater, or else you are an easy target for everyone.

If there's a land predator chasing you, go into the water, if there's a deinosuchus chasing you, go to the land.

When you are fully grown, i recommend you to find a mate and/or return to swamp. Nesting at swamp is much safer, as in most cases the only thing you will share the swamp with is a deinosuchus.

When you are an adult, finding food will be much easier, as you may forage on the bottom of almost any water body.

To build a nest, you need to find sticks using your scent.

Incubating the eggs
As a beipiaosaurus, you don't need to sit on your eggs to keep them warm. Instead, you need to add more sticks to the nest if its too cold for the eggs.
