Introduction
War Missions are a special tactical sequence that has you command separate legions of units to take on enemies. You will compose a battle plan again the enemy forces and then watch the battles play out.

These War missions are done at key points throughout the story as progressive points. Although they can seem sometimes a bit daunting or unsure of how best to complete, follow this guide on how to easily complete them all.

Also, a standard practice before taking on each War mission:
  • Enhance your party’s weapons as high as you can at the Blacksmith
  • Make sure your runes are in tip-top shape at the Rune Shop
  • Keep up on your recruitment

These couple things can help bolster your commands for taking on the missions.
War 1: The Eltisweiss Front [Story]

This first War is pretty straight forward. This battle sees you commanding Now, Sabine, and Ymir.

First round:
  • Move Now and Ymir's legions forward 1 square
  • Keep Sabine's Legion in it's starting position

After this just keep everyone where they're at for a pretty low effort win.
Now and Ymir's Legion Command abilities can also be used to help bolster adject allies and their own powers as well.
War 2: The Hishahn Front [Story]

Our second war here during the events of Hishahn takes a bit more finesse than before. It is still very do-able, despite what seems like an uphill battle. This sequence also takes place over 2 distinct battle sequences.

Battle 1
You'll start off with just Kassius' legion-
First round:
  • Move forward one square

Second round:
  • Use Legion Command "Scheme"
  • Move forward one square

At this point, a scene will play that sees Nowa, Ymir, and third-party named Barnard show up.

Third round:
  • Move Nowa, Kassius, and Barnard legions into the square with Goldwyn
  • Move Ymir's legion into the sqaure with Seign

At this point Barnard and Ymir's legions likely retreated back a square.

Fourth round:
  • Use Barnard's Legion Command "Charge" to instantly move him into the square with Nowa; which doesn't use a move command.
  • Move Now, Barnard, and Kassius all onto Goldwyn.
  • Move Ymir back to Seign

You can also utilize Nowa's Legion Command to bolster attacks for all parties while they are in adjacent sqaures; and Ymir's Legion Command that recovers "Stamina" (aka legion HP) if you feel inclined. Goldwyn will ultimately retreat to end the first sequence.

Battle 2
After a series of cutscenes we are back into a second-part of the Hishahn section and this one fairs a bit easier than previously.

Starting out you'll see Nowa/Ymir legions grouped in a square; and Kassius/Barnard legions grouped up in a square.
First round:
  • Move all 4 legions forward one square

Second round:
  • Use Nowa's Legion Command "Cross Boost" to strengthen all legions
  • Move all 4 legions foward one square into battle.

After a short scene, we'll gain an unlikely ally and its particular impossible to lose!

Third round:
  • Move Nowa/Ymir legions into the square directly move them; to fight that enemy party
  • Move Kassius/Barnard legions into the square directly below them; to fight that enemy party

Our unexpected ally is controlled by the PC and will specifically attack Chapell.
Repeat Round 3 steps again for an easy win.
War 3: The Athrabalt Front [Story]

Starting out, it looks like you may have this one in the bag - but after the first round a new enemy legion comes in which can put a damper into that thought. Don't worry, remember, we got this!

First Round:
  • Move all legions forward one square

Second Round:
  • Use Marisa's Legion Command "Assualt"
  • Move the 3 legions on the left-most square forward into battle
  • Don't move the 2 legions in the middle square - keep this stationary
  • Move 1 of the legions from the right square to the left, into the "middle" square with the stationary group; keep the other legion stationary.

Third Round:
  • Move the 3 legions on the left-most square forward into battle again
  • Keep everyone else stationary

At this point your objective is to just hold out / not advance.

Fourth/Fifth Rounds:
  • Don't move any legions, keep them stationary

After this, you will finish the War mission!
War 4: The Dux Attacks [Story]

A lot of this battle plays out in a series of cutscenes between rounds and some guests legions will come in to help that you cannot control.

My team set-ups was:
  • Left: Nowa / Ymir
  • Mid: Kassius / Bernard / Seign
  • Right: Skyd / Reyna

Start by moving everyone up one square, then don't move on the second turn. From here charge straight toward the Dux and don’t worry about the Kenani army or Revenants. Focus your best legions on taking down the Dux.

There isn't a fast and loose set of turns as things can play out different depending on how the Imperial legions split. Ultimately, if you just keep moving foward and use your Legion Commands to help bolster your forces you should easily wipe everyone out and surround the Dux so he has nowhere to retreat to. After a couple turns pounding on him, you will win.

War 5: Liberation of Eltisweiss (Story)

This final war plays as a sort of reverse of the Eltisweiss Front war we did at the beginning of the game - and it's pretty straight forward. First 2 turns, just move forward. On the third turn:
  • Use Nowa’s Legion Command, Cross Boost
  • Use Vorrdice’s Legion Command, Overall Boost
  • Use Reyna's Legion Command, Tenacity

Just keep moving forward. After the third turn you can use Sumire’s Legion Command, Rescue, to restore the stamina of the legions attacking Chapell. One more turn after should be enough to take down his legion and retake Eltisweiss.
War 6: Storming Gardhaven Castle (Story)

This one is super easy / pretty quick!

First Round
  • Move all legions forward 1 square

Second Round
  • Use Nowa's Legion Command to boost attack
  • Use Seign's Legion Command to do some preemptive damage on the Dux
  • Use Kassius' Legion Command to taunt the Dux into attacking
  • Use Goldwyn's Legion Command
  • Don't move any legions

Third Round
  • Use Vorrdice's Legion Command to boost all allies
  • Charge Seign, Goldwyn, and Kassius into the Dux's Square
  • Dux's legion was wiped out for me on this turn

Fourth Round +
  • Just keep moving all legions forward until one of your legions reaches the gate spot shown on the mini map
All Mock Battles - Skilled In War Achievement
So a guide to all War front battles isn't really complete since we have mock battles to do for the Skilled In War achievement. You unlock these by recruiting Stadler. Once you've unlocked Stadler you'll find him in the north western courtyard of floor 1 in your HQ, you'll be able to play these various mock battles by talking to him.

It's worth doing these later in the game when you preferably have all the heroes unlocked though as they give extra buffs and unlock extra abilities/units; plus there are two War Troop Boosts available in the Drafting Studio.

With that said - let's get into the strategies here!

Stalling The Enemy
Nothing too hard here, I ignored my troops on the sides and just moved Stadler up 1 space to join the army in the middle, just stay here and let the enemy come to you each turn for an easy win.

Mastering the Rear
The army at the top should be moving towards Stadler every turn, move Euma south away from the middle and your southern army up to the same spot, face your middle armies to the direction of the enemy armies as this will block them off and allow Euma to escape. You're armies will likely retreat each turn, just keep moving Euma away and refacing your enmies to the enemy to block them from reaching him until your northern army reaches Stadler. Once your rear army coming into contact with Stadler, you win.

Mastering Cavalry Legions
Armies consisting of only Cavalry can move 2 spaces at once, so use your army on the right to engage the enemy in combat while you move Kassius and Stadler within range for the next turn. Then, use Kassius's Provoke ability to keep them from running away, it's better to provoke than chase as if you're chasing them north they might still reach the escape point. Keep your all your units attacking. Chase them if needed, when you run out of Provoke uses.

Practical Training
Before you start move Kassius to the right then Nowa and Seign to the middle (so no "left" squad) and start the battle.
  • Turn 1 - Move all your armies up 1 space
  • Turn 2 - Just wait here, let the enemy come to you as they will block off a third of their force at the back.
  • Turn 3 - Activate any buffing/attacking abilities you want, then keep the Square with Nowa still (Seign's damaging ability that immobilizes is good here) and move the right square with Kassius up 1.
  • Turn 4 and 5 - Use Kassius's Provoke ability on the enemies above them and stay in your square (don't move them). Use Nowa's square to attack the enemies above them.
  • Turn 6+ - Should just be clean-up, advance into the remaining enemies and use any remaining abilities if needed.

The Unfavorable Battle
This will most definitely be the hardest one yet - and unfortunately there is no perfect turn set to guarantee a win.

For Best Results, your legions should be:
  • Nowa/Melridge
  • Seign/Hildi
  • Reyna
  • Kassius
  • Ymir/Sumire
  • Elektra
  • Bernard (required)

If you don't have Elektra yet, keep Marisa/Wayve in her place, you will need to adapt your strategy a bit but should work in a similar way though it will be harder.

For the units:
  • replace Nowa's mages with more infantry (sword icon)
  • Reyna should have all cavalry; the horse icon (Perielle / Gocteau groups)
  • Kassius might have an archer group with Kallathor; if so, replace it with the Elf archer group
  • Ymir, replace the infantry group with 95 power to the one with 100/120 power, also change the mages to archers with Syd that has 120/130 power
  • Elektra (Or Marisa) replace the low power infantry unit with a more powerful one; i used the one with Kogen/Francesca in it

For placement I put Bernard, Nowa and Ymir in the middle, Elektra(Marisa), Kassius and Reyna on the right and Seign alone on the left.

    • Turn 1 - Use (Nowa)Meldridge's Scheme ability to immobilize the enemies below them, use Nowa's Cross boost - and you can use Ymir's Archer Boost too, then advance Nowa/Ymir/Bernard north. Activate Reyna's Tenacity ability and face her east, face Kassius north, activate Elektra's cavalry boost then face her south.
    • Turn 2/3 - will largely depend on how Turn 1 plays out - which isn't always consistent. You want to use Seign's Focus attacks on the biggest group of armies possible (usually the group of 3 west of him), use Reyna's Tenacity for defense, use Elektra's Emergency Aid to heal if needed and use Kassius's Provoke to keep any northern armies from flanking Nowa's legion grouping. For Nowa's legion group, just leave them there and let the enemy come to you. Use Sumire's Rescue ability to heal if necessary.
    • Turn 4+ - Try to stay stationary, face an army to any direction an enemy can come from and heal if needed/available. You may have to start moving legions to flank or combine forces and do you're best to clean-up.

It may take a little bit of extra work and adjustment to your strategy depending on the flow of the battle / legion movements. Although this is an "easy" guide - this will be the only battle in the whole guide that doesn't have a consistent play-out.
