天城级战列巡洋舰二号舰赤城号（あかぎ）是日本海军“八八舰队”计划的主力之一。也是在长门级战列舰的舰体基础上加装一座双联装主炮，炮塔布置与加贺级战列舰相似，可以说是加贺级的轻装甲快速型，减簿装甲，舷侧装甲带采用倾斜式设计，取消了以往日本战舰水平装甲延伸到舷侧水线以下的“穹甲结构”。副炮全部都在同一层甲板。天城级的假想对手是美国海军的6艘列克星顿级战列巡洋舰。

“天城级”战列巡洋舰很大程度上可以看作是‘加贺“级的战列巡洋舰版本，航速由于被安装了更多的锅炉而大为提高，最高航速为30节。火力上“天城级”同先前开工的“加贺级”战列舰是完全相同的，同为五座双联装“40公分”炮塔。两型战列舰的区别在于装甲设计，“天城级”在装甲防护上要明显弱于“加贺级”，不仅没有后者所拥有的主装甲带后直接铺设在轮机舱壁上的3英寸装甲而且水平装甲的最大厚度也仅为4英寸，炮座、炮塔上的防护也比之后者要弱许多。更重要的是在最大厚度装甲带的覆盖面积和装甲总质量上“天城级”也明显逊于“加贺级”，不过日本海军对“天城级”的定位本就是战列巡洋舰，所以这些忽视生存能力的设计也并没有招致太大的非议。本次展现的是在1941年后进行现代化改造后的状态，着重增强了防空火力。

The second battlecruiser of the Amagi class, Akagi, was one of the main forces of the Japanese Navy's "88 Fleet" program. On the basis of the Nagato class battleship, a twin main gun was also installed, and the turret layout was similar to that of the Kaga class battleship. It can be said to be a light armored fast type of the Kaga class, with reduced armor. The side armor belt adopts a tilted design, eliminating the "dome armor structure" that used to extend the horizontal armor of Japanese warships below the waterline. All secondary guns are on the same deck. The hypothetical opponent of the Tiancheng class is six Lexington class battlecruisers of the United States Navy.
The "Tiancheng class" battleship cruiser can be largely regarded as the version of the "Kaga" class battleship cruiser, with a greatly increased speed due to the installation of more boilers, with a maximum speed of 30 knots. In terms of firepower, the "Tiancheng class" battleship is identical to the previously started "Kaga class" battleship, with five twin mounted "40 cm" turrets. The difference between the two types of battleships lies in their armor design. The "Amagi class" is significantly weaker in armor protection than the "Kaga class". Not only does it lack the 3-inch armor directly laid on the engine compartment wall after the main armor belt of the latter, but the maximum thickness of horizontal armor is only 4 inches. The protection on the gun base and turret is also much weaker than the latter. More importantly, in terms of the coverage area and total armor mass of the maximum thickness armor belt, the "Amagi class" is clearly inferior to the "Kaga class". However, the Japanese Navy's positioning of the "Tiancheng class" is already a battlecruiser, so these designs that ignore survivability have not attracted much criticism. This presentation presents the state of modernization after 1941, with a focus on enhancing air defense firepower.
