Convert a PS4 save to a PC save for Ghost of Tsushima

This guide will tell you how take a PS4 save file of Ghost of Tsushima and turn into a save file that your PC version of the game will successfully load.

I didn't check for too long, but it seems like every armor, every weapon, every upgrade's there, and even all the collectible stuff that carries over between playthroughs is also unlocked, leaving you basically at the very beginning of an NG++ playthrough, with nothing else done for you.

Want that NG+ experience without having to work for more gameplay-related unlocks? Start a new game, play through the prologue, and once it's properly done just load up this NG++ save and continue from there. Bam, you're done.

Preamble

So,
you played through Ghost of Tsushima when it was a PS4/PS5 exclusive, didn't you?
You kept pushing off that NG+ playthrough on Lethal+, didn't you?
Look what happened - Nixxes came through and gave you the definitive way to play the game, and now you want to play NG+ on PC straight away, don't you?

While I can't help you to transfer your PS5 save, here's what we can do together to overcome this hurdle:

Get yourself a PS4 save of Ghost of Tsushima

First, you'll want to find a PS4 save of Ghost of Tsushima. You can source it from anywhere you like - your own PS4, from a friend or from the general internet.
Personally I used the save file in this link[playersquared.com].

IMPORTANT NOTE: THE SAVE FILE MUST NOT BE OLDER THAN THE DIRECTOR'S CUT INITIAL RELEASE! If you still want to use such an old, pre-summer 2021 save file, make sure you first re-save it on an UPDATED PS4 version of the game!

Decrypt your PS4 save files

Next comes the hardest part, which stumped me for several hours.

See, the options to decrypt a PS4 game's save files are either to do so via a jailbroken PS4, or with some 3rd patry programs like the PS4 Save Wizard.
Thing is, I don't own a PS4, nor does the Save Wizard program support decrypting a Ghost of Tsushima save file.

This... is where the Xcier discord server comes in to play, after I found them via this YouTube video:

Basically, you can join the discord server (invite link in the YouTube video, you should probably join via that link) and then, following the instructions in the above YouTube video (do watch it for a bit), have their discord bot decrypt the PS4 save files you upload there. Personally, I used the channel called "ps4-save-bot-4-htos-2". If everything you did worked (and if you used the same save file I did, from the section above in this guide), you should've received a zip folder containing, within a subfolder, a file called dis.dat:



Don't be alarmed! It may seem to be of a different format that the kind of save file Ghost of Tsushima uses on PC (think manual_0000.sav or something like that), but it will, infact, work for the PC version!

Copy the decrypted save file to your game's save file folder

At this point you're equipped with a decrypted PS4 save file of Ghost of Tsushima.
By default, the save folder for the game on Steam should be somewhere around:

Documents\Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT\76561198002039947

Here's how it looks like for me:


So basically - take the save file you got from the decryption process (dis.dat in my case), simply rename it to something like manual_0000.sav (you may increase the number if you care about other saved you might already have there), and then...

You're done!

From here you can boot the game, pick load game, and load that save.
If all went to plan you should load into the specific saved game you just decrypted.

From my experience, after doing that and then backing out to the main menu, NG+ unlocked, so it means the game updated its system save to realize you have "finished the game".


Now watch as this guide becomes obsolete because someone already uploaded their complete PC save file for everyone to use without needing to go through this process lmao

Is this only for achievements? Do you have to use the old PS4 version v2.18 instead of the new version v2.24? I tried pulling the save from a PS4 version being played on PS5 (saves are formatted as PS4), but I wasn't able to actually load into the save. I didn't even get any achievements when it was loaded either. To reiterate, I have only played the game on the PS5 v2.24, but it is the PS4 version of the game (not director's cut) so the save is in PS4 format and it's still not working for me.

For those having issues, you need to use a US PS4 save (v2.18). EU version didn't work for me (v2.24)

Also not working for me....when I select the imported save to load, it's just not doing anything. Also tried the method with using it as the auto.sav, still doesn't work.
Do I have to have the directors cut edition on PS4 to import the save? Because I only hav the "normal" GoT version on PS4, so maybe those saves are incompatible?

For some reason i cant load my decrypted save. i updated my ps4 version and saved it. it decrypted and i renamed it manual_0000.sav and even tried renaming it to auto .sav and i can SEE the save in game but it just does nothing at all when clicked, anyone know what im doing wrong?

just prefacing this by saying i'm on windows 11, changing the name of the file from dis to manual_0000.sav didnt change the type of file it is. its still a .dat file just named manual_0000.sav
