What Are Diseases?
Diseases are a major RNG element of the game which causes negative conditions to your heroes.

They are able to be contracted mainly from enemy attacks, but can also be contracted at the Academic's Studies and from inn items.

Once a disease is contracted, you will hear a specific sound effect, and the character who has contracted the disease will be displayed with a green, floating text which names the type of disease.

If a hero is already diseased and you see them contract a new disease, the old disease will be rewritten.
You will see funny examples where "Brittle Bones" will be replaced with "Creeping Cough".

The disease will also be displayed at the bottom-end when you open your character's screen:

Are Diseases Beneficial In Any Way?
Diseases and their negative effects could be combined with other trinkets/quirks which can convert the negative tokens into positive.
For example, if you have Hemic Rot (Round start: (15%)) and you have the trinket "Footsman's Grog", you can take advantage of said disease.

Considering the fairly small percent chance of contracting any disease, and having a specific trinket for a specific conversion of tokens, the chance of making a disease work in your favor is fairly thin.

However, there is one singular trinket in the game which makes diseases benefit you in a way:

Other than that, nothing else is that surefoot for you to take advantage of.
How To Cure Diseases
You can cure your heroes' diseases via:

  • Visiting "The Good Doctor" Inn

  • Inn Items

    - Leeches*

    - Peculiar Secretion (chance to be a reward from clearing a Creature Den)

    - Experimental Remedy (Plague Doctor's signature item)

  • Combat Items

    - Single Leech*

  • Trinkets

    - Peculiar Pods

  • Stagecoach Items

    - Chirurgeons Table

  • Visiting the Field Hospital

    - The Field Hospital has a chance to be available on your map per every region
    - It costs 12 Relics to remove a diseases for each hero

  • Visiting the Chirurgeon's Table

    - All of the abovementioned entries listed with * are a possible reward from winning the fight at the Chirurgeon's Table
    - During the actual fight, if any of your heroes has a disease, the Chirurgeon will be forced to target them and use Bloodletting:
Summary
Diseases are certainly a creative mechanic which adds to the difficulty of your game, whilst at the same time - being fairly forgiving now with the Chirurgeon's Table update. If your hero contracts a disease, you are now given more options to remove them, rather than only planning for a trip to a Field Hospital.

Most diseases are harmless to your playthrough, but some nasty ones can surely make you plan your entire Region visit around curing them.

Whatever the case, remember that the Darkest Dungeon is a place where you are tested in making the most out of the worst possible situations. So pick up yourselves and press on.

That was directly taken from the fan wiki :) I realize that they are the same images from the official and fan, but I initially took it from the Fan Wiki, therefore I will not change the links.

I hear you, @Batatazul.

The Guide has been updated:
-added Botulism, as it was missing from the table
-updated Dysentery, Smallpox, The Oozes, Typhoid to be more accurate with the official wiki
-changed the links to be from Official wiki, rather than the Fandom wiki

very nice work with this guide, though i noticed youre using the fandom wiki instead of the official one (wiki.gg), fandom has a much worse user experience and the wiki is a lot more outdated than the wiki.gg one, since it has significantly less users actively contributing to it
https://darkestdungeon.wiki.gg/wiki/Darkest_Dungeon_II_Wiki here is the link for it, it would be appreciated if you replaced the links to fandom with it
