Widescreen Resolution without CNCNet [ENG]

This is a guide on how to set Red Alert 2 & Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, to a proper resolution, without installing CNCNet

If this is your first time playing Red Alert 2 or you're a returning player, this Guide will probably help you:

1) Set to the native resolution
2) Set to high res graphics

(Step 1) Access the game's local files

i) Go to your Steam Game Library

ii) Right click "Command & Conquer Red Alert™ 2 and Yuri’s Revenge™"

iii) Click " Properties "

Iv) Head to " Installed Files "

v) Click " Browse "

(Step 2) Modifying the files " DDrawCompact.ini "

From the local files where you installed the game, you need to modify 3 files

i) First find the file called:

" DDrawCompat.ini "

ii) Right Click & Open it with a Notepad

iii) From there you'll see

" SupportedResolutions = 640x400, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 "

iv) Add this at the end based on your resolution,

" SupportedResolutions = 640x400, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1920x1080, native "

v) Save the file (Top left corner > File > Save)

(Step 3) Modifying the files " RA2.ini " & " RA2MD.ini "

The two files are quite similar

i) Find the files called:

"RA2.ini"

ii) Right click & Open it with Notepad

iii) Find the following:

ScreenWidth=800
ScreenHeight=600
StretchMovies=no

iv) Change it to your monitor resolution:

(Video)
ScreenWidth=1920
ScreenHeight=1080
StretchMovies=no

v) And add "AllowHiResModes=yes" at the bottom like this:

ScreenWidth=1920
ScreenHeight=1080
StretchMovies=no
AllowHiResModes=yes

vi) Save the file (Top left corner > File > Save)

vii) IMPORTANT: REPEAT THE SAME THING WITH "RA2MD.ini"

(Final Step) Testing the game

Try launching the game to see if it works

In the base Red Alert 2, the cinematics and menu will look small based on the added & modified resolution.

However in RA2: Yuri's Revenge the menu will still look the same because it's hard coded.

But this will not effect in-game & gameplay for both Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge

Yes. You can use CNCNet or do it manually by following this guide.

if it don't work for you, just download CnC Net [cncnet.org], they have it patched for higher resolutions and includes multiplayer access.

Replace this text (Video) to [Video]. I can't include in the guide somehow, because it got mixed up with the Steam Formatting.

Based on @Nyerguds, yes only adding "native" option in "DDrawCompat.ini" will set to the resolution of your PC.

Worked perfect. Game should come with these options activated by default.

after doing all the steps ,it doesnt work for me . just a black screen for a few seconds and then turns off
