Introduction
This guide covers convictions first, because convictions control both the tribes you can join and the gifts you can earn. Full explanations of spirits are under their location entries. After that, there are sections on auspices, tribes, and the gifts they unlock; and a short list of the handful of spirits without tribe or auspice requirements.

Each tribe and each auspice unlocks three spirits (four for a couple auspices); no tribe/auspice pair shares more than one spirit.

(So, if you disregard personality, your PC probably has nine or ten spirits to choose from—the four common ones, and five or six more from their tribe and auspice.)

There's information in the code about tribes and gifts that aren't in the game yet and are/were planed for the unreleased DLCs—I'm going to leave them out of this guide, at least until said DLC actually comes out, because I don't know which of those notes are current plans and which the author has changed his mind on.

Additionally, this guide skips over spirits that don't offer their Gifts to the player character. These include Whippoorwill (only aids wolf-born galliards, like your packmate Nin), Martha (only able to gift those she knew in life), and Chains-the-Lie (it's a bit complicated).
Convictions
Convictions (or personality stats) are opposed pairs. All spirits and tribes require a conviction to accept you.

Each is a scale that goes from 0 (one extreme) to 100 (the other). You start at 50—that is, neutral.

Not all spirits are equally strict!

In general, spirits with higher chiminage demands also want more extreme personalities. (No spirit is going to mind you having more dots than they require in their preferred conviction, though.)

Tribes are more lenient about conviction/personality requirements than even the most easygoing spirits—they each have two options, and as long as one is on the right side of neutral, they'll take you. You don't even need a full dot!

Looking at the code, convictions tend to be incremented in multiples of 5. I'm not sure that this is always the case, but I haven't found any exceptions.

Occasionally, convictions are tested as if they were skills. When this happens, you generally need three dots to pass the test.

Litany
The Litany is both werewolf tradition and werewolf etiquette; "Melodie is my elder so I'm going to let her take the lead" would be a pro-Litany choice. So is "Nomi is human, I shouldn't risk telling them too much," or "It'd be bad if Scarper wolfed out in public [because humans would see him]". Most references to your pack or honoring Gaia are also pro-Litany.

Lowering the Litany stat is tougher, but generally involves being rude to elder werewolves (that is, any other werewolves), disparaging the Litany or its current state, and generally being suspicious and reluctant to interact with your own kind. Being hostile towards Melody (a very pro-Litany werewolf, your elder, and a member of the "royal" Silver Fang tribe) when you first meet her can also help.

The Litany Has Failed
  • Tribes: Bone Gnawers, Shadow Lords
  • One Dot Spirits: Madame Mouse
  • Two Dot Spirits: none
  • Three Dot Spirits: Katherine

The Litany Sustains Us
Also "Rebuild the Litany".
  • Tribes: Hart Wardens, Silver Fangs
  • One Dot Spirits: Wardstone
  • Two Dot Spirits: Falcon-with-Many-Faces
  • Three Dot Spirits: Hjúki

Humanity
This covers interest in the human world and concern for ordinary people. Hostility towards humans, blaming them for the state of the world, and disinterest in their ways will take you towards Humans Must Pay. Curiosity about normal life and concern for ordinary people's well-being will take you towards Humans Must Understand.

Humans Must Pay
  • Tribes: none

Humans Must Understand
  • Tribes: Black Furies, Glass Walkers

  • Two Dot Spirits: Hou Yi, Raccoon
  • Three Dot Spirits: none

Spirituality
These are fairly self-explanatory.
Our Weapon is Rage
  • Tribe: Black Furies

  • Three Dot Spirits: none

Our Answer is Spirit
  • Tribe: Children of Gaia

Hope
Hope is lowered by choices that prioritize survival, and raised by choices that prioritize finding out what's going on.
I Just Want to Survive
Also "Try Not to Die".
  • Tribe: Bone Gnawers
  • One Dot Spirits: Trout
  • Two Dot Spirits: Pigeon
  • Three Dot Spirits: none

We Can Still Win
Also "Find the Answers", which in some ways is a better name for it—this covers hopeful choices, but also curious ones (because you're choosing learning over worrying about survival).
  • Tribes: Children of Gaia, Glass Walkers
  • One Dot Spirits: Squirrel
  • Two Dot Spirits: Beetle, Holds-the-Dawn
  • Three Dot Spirits: none

Jokes
Find Purpose Through Dignity
This one is kind of tough—I can usually tell what option is a joke, but which option out of three or four is pointedly not a joke is harder.
  • Tribe: Shadow Lords, Silver Fangs
  • One Dot Spirits: Owl
  • Two Dot Spirits: Dataweaver, Pan-Killer
  • Three Dot Spirits: Copper Mirror

Find Courage Through Laughter
This is what it sounds like—making jokes.
  • Tribe: Hart Wardens
  • One Dot Spirits: none
  • Two Dot Spirits: Knife-Eyes, Reynard
  • Three Dot Spirits: none
Gifts: Barrows
Gifts require chiminage (cost varies), as well as a Conviction and, usually, meeting an unlock condition.

In the base game, there are 26 spirits that offer Gifts. The first DLC adds one more, Hou Yi, who is only willing to help Black Furies.

The spirits that can grant you their Gifts are found in three locations: the barrows, the deep woods, and the urban blight. These locations are unlocked after you recruit Melodie, Nin, and Podge respectively, and they can become unavailable later in the game.

Descriptions are quoted directly from the game.

Clay (Eyes-of-Clay)
  • Gift: Devastating Crinos Form
  • Description: When you use your crinos war form, Clay heals your lesser wounds and grants you additional ferocity in combat.
  • Unlock: Ahroun
  • Conviction: 2 dots Our Weapon Is Rage
  • Chiminage: 3 Glory

The Copper Mirror
  • Gift: Hold Rage
  • Description: "The Copper Mirror helps you control your Rage. First, it "stores" a small amount of Rage that will then flow into you when you're at risk of losing the Wolf. This works once and then you must return and burnish the mirror. Second, while it shines, your Rage causes fewer distractions when you must act with human-cunning."
  • Unlock: Philodox or Child of Gaia or Silver Fang
  • Conviction: 3 dots Find Purpose Through Dignity
  • Chiminage: 7 Glory

Graynail
  • Gift: Combat Mastery
  • Description: "Graynail enhances your close combat abilities. His Gift works automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and draws on your Resolve."
  • Unlock: none
  • Conviction: 1 dot Our Weapon Is Rage
  • Chiminage: 3 Glory

Holds-the-Dawn
  • Gift: Song of Valor
  • Description: "Jane Lucci helps you lead your fellow Garou into battle. Her power works automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and relies on your Resolve."
  • Unlock: Galliard, Hart Warden or Shadow Lord
  • Conviction: 2 dots We Can Still Win
  • Chiminage: 5 Wisdom

In Leadership tests that happen in combat, Resolve -1 is added to your effective Leadership.

Katherine
  • Gift: Spirit-Binding
  • Description: "Katherine teaches you how to summon, bind, and control spirits, turning them into allies. Katherine's Gift uses your Rage. Your Intelligence determines how many times a summoned spirit can help you."
  • Unlock: Theurge
  • Conviction: 3 dots The Litany Has Failed
  • Chiminage: 7 Wisdom

Katherine's gift costs Rage when you bind a spirit. After you do so, it can turn failure to success (provided the failure isn't too great).

This is kind of complicated—okay, it's very complicated.

Let's say your Intelligence is 5, you have a freshly-bound spirit. Under your stats, you'll see "Bound Spirit: name (type of spirit)", and five out of six dots.

Say also that you're trying a test that requires 7 Wits to pass.

(In practice that test is probably Wits + Aim or something. We're pretending that your Aim is 0 and you don't have any relevant bonuses or penalties.)

So, you're two short of the score you need to get that done—but you don't fail, because Katherine's gift saves you. You "spend" two points of spirit help to succeed at the test. If you look at your spirit under stats, you'll now have three out of six dots left—that's how much it can help you in the future.

I think the maximum help you can get from Katherine's gift is three dots worth. And if you only have two dots left and you fall three short of success, Katherine and your latest bound spirit can't help you.

If you run out of dots, you'll need to bind a new spirit—something you can do at any time even if your current spirit hasn't helped you at all.

Hopefully you are no more confused now than when you started to read that explanation.

Knife-Eyes
  • Gift: The Song of Inspiration
  • Description: "Knife-Eyes helps you to persuade and lead your fellow Garou. He lends power to your words, and helps coordinate your companions. Since he wasn't a warrior in life, Knife-Eyes's Gift helps only outside of battle. His Gift works automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and relies on your Composure."
  • Unlock: Galliard or Silver Fang
  • Conviction: 2 dots Find Courage Through Laughter
  • Chiminage: 5 Honor

When Leadership or Persuasion is tested outside of combat situations, your Composure - 1 is added to your tested skill + attribute sum.

Old Man Palys
  • Gift: Dread Aura
  • Description: "Old Man Palys stokes your fury, helping you to terrify and dominate. His Gift works automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and draws on your Resolve."
  • Unlock: none
  • Conviction: 1 dot Humans Must Pay
  • Chiminage: 3 Honor

  • Unlock: Theurge or Hart Warden
  • Conviction: 1 dot The Litany Sustains Us
  • Chiminage: 3 Honor
Gifts: Urban Blight
Beetle
  • Gift: Scent of the Past
  • Description: "Beetle lets you see the past of any object you handle, which can help your investigations and open up new avenues to explore. Using Beetle's Gift uses Rage and relies on your Resolve."
  • Unlock: Philodox or Bone Gnawer
  • Conviction: 2 dots We Can Still WIn
  • Chiminage: 5 Wisdom

Dataweaver
  • Gift: Computer Mastery
  • Description: " dataweav.gwg enhances your computer skills and allows you to access computer systems even when you don't have online access. Dataweaver's Gift works automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and relies on your Resolve."

  • Conviction: 2 dots Find Purpose Through Dignity
  • Chiminage: 5 Wisdom

Tribes (and Gifts by Tribe)
Joining a tribe requires chiminage as well as one of two Convictions. Also, before joining a tribe you must recruit two out of Melodie, Podge, and Nin, and have a talk with the Stormcat.

Each tribe has a ban: if you displease your patron by breaking their ban, you will have to spend chiminage on placating them instead of bargaining with spirits. Each spirit also has three spirits that are willing to teach their gifts to tribe members. Additionally, when you join a tribe you gain a point in an attribute and a skill; the cap for these is increased by one at the same time.

Like spirits, you can't join a tribe if the location where you meet with its patron spirit is unavailable.

The base game has five tribe options. The first DLC, "Wardens and Furies," adds two more, and two more DLCs are planned that will each add two more tribes.

Base Game Tribes

Bone Gnawers
  • Location: Urban Blight
  • Convictions: I Just Want to Survive OR The Litany Has Failed
  • Chiminage: 3 Honor
  • Ban: "Bone Gnawers work for the well being of others, and see to their immediate needs. A Bone Gnawer with more than about $1,000, or the opportunity to take ten or more days off to study, loses Honor. (Bone Gnawers tend to be jacks of all trades for this reason, rather than specialists.)"
  • Gifts: "Superior Stealth (Mouse, Urban Blight), Smell the Past (Beetle, Urban Blight), City Secrets (the Pan-Killer, barrows)."
  • Attribute: Stamina
  • Skill: Streetwise
  • Note: If you reach the end of Chapter 8 without choosing a tribe, you will be forced to join one, and the Bone Gnawers will become possible even if you do not meet Rat's usual requirements.

Children of Gaia
  • Location: Woods
  • Convictions: Our Answer Is Spirit OR We Can Still Win
  • Chiminage: 5 Wisdom
  • Ban: "Servants of truth and enemies of mindless Rage, Children of Gaia eschew deception and belligerence. A Child of Gaia cannot advance their Subterfuge, and a Child of Gaia who escalates an argument to gain Rage loses Wisdom."
  • Gifts: "Heal (Mother Bear, woods), Balance Rage (Copper Mirror, barrows), Open Locks (Raccoon, Urban Blight)"
  • Attribute: Composure
  • Skill: Awareness
  • Note: If you're trying to gain as many Gifts as possible, that extra point of Composure may come in handy! Also, you may be able to refund any Subterfuge points you already have for exp, if you wish.

Glass Walkers
  • Location: Urban Blight
  • Convictions: Humans Must Understand OR We Can Still Win
  • Chiminage: 5 Wisdom
  • Ban: "Spider maintains (is?) a complex series of distributed agreements and interoperability protocols, and Glass Walkers become part of this network of reciprocal obligations. A Glass Walker who damages any machine that relies on electricity or more advanced technology loses Wisdom. (Guns and internal combustion engines aren't included, but modern cars have extensive electronics.)"
  • Gifts: "Superior Human Interaction (Butterfly, woods), Destroy Technology (Gremlin, Urban Blight), Superior Computer Operation (Dataweaver, Urban Blight"
  • Attribute: Intelligence
  • Skill: Computer OR Mechanics
  • Note: Spider's ban has a loophole: you can use the Gremlin spirit's gift to destroy technology without annoying your patron.

Shadow Lords
  • Location: Barrows
  • Convictions: The Litany Has Failed OR Find Purpose Through Dignity
  • Chiminage: 5 Glory
  • Ban: "Failure is not tolerated and weakness—especially before others—is unacceptable. A Shadow Lord who fails an Intimidation or Leadership check loses Glory."
  • Gifts: "Superior Stealth (Madame Mouse, Urban Blight), Song of Battle (Holds-the-Dawn, barrows), Weaken Enemy (Shadow, Urban Blight)."
  • Attribute: Manipulation
  • Skill: Investigation

Silver Fangs
  • Location: Barrows
  • Convictions: The Litany Sustains Us OR Find Purpose Through Dignity
  • Chiminage: 7 Honor
  • Ban: "The Silver Fangs were too complacent for too long, and now is the Age of Apocalypse. The falcon-headed god commands his children to rebuild the Garou Nation. A Silver Fang who does not gain Honor on a mission actually loses Honor."
  • Gifts: "Protection from Fire and Silver (Lune, Urban Blight), Song of Skill (Knife-Eyes, barrows), Balance Rage (Copper Mirror, barrows)."
  • Attribute: Charisma
  • Skill: Combat OR Academics OR Leadership

Wardens and Furies Tribes

Black Furies
  • Location: Woods
  • Convictions: Our Weapon is Rage OR Humans Must Understand
  • Chiminage: 5 Glory
  • Ban: Gorgon's Rage can be blind and uncompromising. First, a Black Fury cannot advance their Awareness. Second, a Fury who loses Rage because they backed down from a confrontation also loses Glory.
  • Gifts: "Instant Retaliation (Porcupine, woods), Superior Aim (Hou Yi, Urban Blight), City Secrets (Pan-Killer, barrows)."
  • Attribute: Dexterity
  • Skill: Intimidation
  • Notes: While in older versions of the tabletop lore only women could be Black Furies, this restriction does not appear in the game. You will get the option to reduce your Awareness to 0 and get the exp back to spend elsewhere, if you wish. Finally, the ban applies to lacking aggression in many situations, not just arguments in which you lose Rage by deescalating.

Hart Wardens
  • Location: Woods
  • Convictions: The Litany Sustains Us OR Find Courage Through Laughter
  • Chiminage: 5 Gory
  • Ban: Hart Wardens are sworn to protect those under their charge. If a Warden's fellow Garou suffer harm because of ${his_her} choices, ${he_she} loses Honor."
  • Gifts: "Song of War (Holds-the-Dawn, barrows), Banish Sorcery and Evil Power (the Wardstone, barrows), Speak to Animals (the Falcon with Many Faces, woods)"
  • Attribute: Wits
  • Skill: Persuasion
  • Note: Mother Bear's healing gift can mollify Falcon if you heal your allies quickly after they are injured. However, this gift is available only to theurges, not to all Hart Wardens.
Auspices (and Gifts by Auspices)
Each auspice unlocks three or four spirit gifts (as I understand it, this is meant to increase to 4 each with in a later DLC). Some of the gifts are also unlocked by one or more of the tribes.

Ragabash
The base Rage for ragabashes is 2, and (in the base game, at least) the Gifts unlocked by New Moon status do not cost Rage to use.
  • Madame Mouse (also aids Bone Gnawers and Shadow Lords)
  • Raccoon (also aids Children of Gaia)
  • Reynard, also called Fox

Theurge
Like ragabashes, theurges have two points of baseline Rage. However, their Gifts do cost Rage.
  • Katherine
  • Mother Bear (also aids Children of Gaia)
  • Pigeon
  • Wardstone (also aids Hart Wardens)

Philodox
Philodoxes have a base Rage of 3. Two philodox Gifts cost Rage; one acts automatically; and the Copper Mirror alleviates many of the problems you may have with Rage.

  • Beetle (also aids Bone Gnawers)
  • Copper Mirror (also aids Children of Gaia and Silver Fangs)
  • Falcon-with-Many-Faces (also aids Hart Wardens)
  • Porcupine (also helps Black Furies)

Galliard
Like philodoxes, galliards have a base Rage of 3. The three Gifts available to them in the base game act automatically as long as you haven't lost the Wolf, and do not cost Rage.

  • Butterfly (also aids Glass Walkers)
  • Holds-the-Dawn (also aids Hart Wardens and Shadow Lords)
  • Knife-Eyes (also aids Silver Fangs)

Ahroun
Ahrouns have the highest base Rage in the game at 4. An ahroun can spend more Rage on gifts than other auspices without losing the Wolf—and probably should, because their high Rage imposes a penalty on many skill checks.

Ironically, none of their three spirit gifts directly cost Rage. Trout works automatically, while Eyes-of-Clay works when you are in Crinos (costs 2 Rage to enter that form) and Wildcat acts whenever you are in a form that has claws (only some of which cost Rage to shift into). In the base game, none of these spirits offers their aid to a tribe; their gifts are only available to ahrouns.
  • Eyes-of-Clay
  • Trout
  • Wildcat
Gifts Without Auspice/Tribe Requirements
Most spirits offer their power only to werewolves of specific auspices and/or tribes. These few will help anyone with the right personality, and they require only one dot of a conviction, so most characters can get their help if they want. Additionally, they all act automatically rather than costing Rage.

  • Graynail
  • Malachi Palys
  • Owl
  • Squirrel

Will this be updated for the new DLC "Those who refuse to die"?
