How to get Eurofighter Typhoon DRM-free running on Steam

If you are getting crash to desktop errors when trying to run it from your Steam library, this might be a solution.

Locating files on Hard Disk Drive

Go to your Steam Games Library.

Right-click on Eurofighter Typhoon, click on Properties, from the drop-down menu.

Choose the LOCAL FILES tab.

Click on: Browse local files. A new window will open, this window shows you all the game files.

Setting up Windows Compatibliy Mode

Locate typhoon.exe in the open window:

Right click on typhoon.exe, typhoon.exe Properties will open.

Click Compatiblity tab.

Mark: Run this program in compatibilty mode for:

Windows 98 / WIndows Me.
(a sidenote: you can even try Windows 7 compatibility mode)

Mark: Run this program as an administrator.

Click on OK.

Starting the game

Double-click on typhoon.exe and your game will start.

Configuring game settings

This step has been described in another Steam guide:
Double click on the file typhoon_2000.reg, click on yes and allow it to merge with register.

To configure video and audio settings
Run config3dr2000.exe

Additional notes

Maybe steam client disables compatibility mode settings, even if I set up compatibility mode I get a CTD if I try to run it trough Steam

I get a CTD when I disable compatibilty mode, even if I don't run it through the Steam client (via Steam Library).

This mode will not include the tracking of playtime.

Playing in windowed mode

Enabe windowed mode

Locate the game on Hard Disk Drive as mentioned before

Locate typhoon_2000.reg.

Right-click on typhoon_2000.reg.

Left-click on Edit.

The file typhoon_2000.reg will open.

find "Windowed"=dword:00000000
modify "Windowed"=dword:00000000 to "Windowed"=dword:00000001

Save and exit typhoon_2000.reg

Merge with register as described above.

Disable windowed mode

find "Windowed"=dword:00000001
modify "Windowed"=dword:00000001 to "Windowed"=dword:00000000

Save and exit typhoon_2000.reg

Merge with register as described above.
