USS New York BB-34 (1944)

USS New York (nicknamed The Old Lady of the Sea), was one of the two New York class battleships build in 1911. When World War 2 struck, she entered the Neutrality Patrol and served as a convoy escort through the Atlantic. The old battleship was finally able to put her guns to use during Operation Torch in North Africa before being shifted into a training vessel. In 1944, New York was sent to the Pacific theater to support shore bombardment during Iwo-Jima and then Okinawa afterwards. After the war ended, being obselete to the US Navy, she was sent Bikini Atoll to participate in the Operation Crossroads tests. She managed to survive both bombs and was later sunk as a target ship in 1948. Her wreck is still not found to this day.
