Improvements (Widescreen Resolution + Gamepad Support + Crash Fix)
By JoJones
This guide is focused on solving basic issues when trying to run this game on modern machines, since it does not support modern resolutions and it is unstable, frequently crashing. Plus, gamepad support because no one deservers to play a racing game using their keyboard

Introduction
Need for Speed Undercover has some issues on modern machines and I could not find a comprehensive guide to fix them, so I'm creating this guide to help whoever might be facing the same problems.
Instructions
  1. Download this mod [github.com]. It is recommended on the game's PCGamingWiki page[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
  2. Extract the contents and move them into the game's folder. Replace any file if prompted
  3. Under the 'script' directory, open the .ini file with any text editor
  4. In order to fix the resolution, set the value of 'ResDetect' to 1
  5. To get gamepad icons instead of keyboard keys, change the values of 'ImproveGamepadSupport' according to which gamepad you prefer

Fixing the Crashes
I can't guarantee this will work, but from all that I've tried this is the only solution that got me past the prologue

  1. On the same .ini file, set 'WindowedMode' to 1 (Borderless)
  2. As soon as you get control of the car, pause the game, go to 'Graphics' and turn Vsync on
Conclusion
From what I tested, this is what made the game work, at least so far. If this method stops working throughout my playthrough, I'll update it if possible. I was able to play Undercover from start to finish with these changes, without any issues, so I hope this helps anyone trying to play this abandoned game. If none of this works I highly recommend going after more stable and fun racing games.
