How Loddle evolution works (Outdated)
By SamethStarr
A quick, simple guide on how Loddle evolution works for those who don't want to just follow a recipe.

Explains what each food does and what the requirements are for Loddle evolution without going overly in-depth to limit spoilers.

Yes, I intend to update for version 1.1.0 :)

Intro

This guide goes over the basic mechanics of Loddle evolution, giving you the info you need to be able to discover all of the Loddle types on your own.

What is being covered:

  • How evolutions are determined
  • Food and what it does
  • Loddle abilities and what determines them
  • Checklist of all trait combinations
  • What trait combinations make what Loddles

This guide will not cover snack food, as you can make every single Loddle type without unlocking it.

I could not have made this guide without the assistance of this spreadsheet[docs.google.com](spoilers!) that was put together by the Loddlenaut Discord Server[discord.com].

My goal with this guide is to provide the spreadsheet's information in an easy to find location while at the same time simplifying the details and removing spoilers so that the reader may still understand how evolution works while maintaining control over the level of impact it has on their ability to discover Loddle types on their own.
How Loddle evolution works
Loddle evolution is determined by the food they eat during their baby stage, before evolving.

You can tell if a Loddle is ready to evolve by approaching it and viewing it's attributes tab. If its "growth progress" is at 100%, it will evolve within a few minutes as long as it is not following you or dirty. You can still influence its traits with food after it is at 100%.

"Growth progress" increases when a Loddle eats. If your Loddle doesn't have access to food, it will not grow. This can be useful if you want to have complete control over its traits

There are three major traits that are impacted with food

Gills/Antenna - Whether it has whisker-like or horn-like growths from its face. This also influences the ability your Loddle will have when it evolves, whether or not it cleans the area around it (gills) or pollinates plants (antenna).

Tail/Flippers - Whether is has its tail or its flippers as its most defined trait.

Body shape - creates variation on how its body looks. There is regular, fancy, and hardy.

In order to evolve into anything that is not a Jumbo, a Loddle must have gills or antenna and either a tail or flippers. Body shape can influence the type of evolution, but it is not a requirement to evolve.

Jumbo Loddles are still pretty awesome because they can have a large variety of unique appearances based on what you feed them.

There is a certain toy that can greatly influence your baby Loddle's appearance.
Food

There are 9 different base foods with varying effects. You only need to use 6 of them to get every Loddle combination. Most food will add to an effect, while removing another.

A Loddle must have at least one point in gills/antenna, and in tail/flippers or it will be a Jumbo.

Body shape influences the type your Loddle will evolve into.

Gills/Antenna

Coral Pear

Adds gills, removes antenna.

Lily Banana

Adds antenna, removes flippers

Tail/Flippers

Tubey Melon

Adds tail, removes flippers

Star Kelp

Adds tail, removes flippers
Stronger effect than Tubey Melon

Passion Fig

Adds flippers, removes tail
*note* Due to many foods removing flippers, it is best to give this to your Loddle last.

Body Shape

*Note* This trait is not required for evolution.

Kelp Heart

Fancy body, removes hardy

Lotus Kiwi

Hardy body, removes fancy

Mixed

Rainbow Star Kelp

Adds tail and fancy traits while removing flippers and hardy traits

Pearl Berries

Adds antenna and hardy traits while removing flippers and fancy traits.

Notable snacks

Kelp Coffee Drops and Coral Cannoli are the only foods that reduce gills. Everything else can be done with basic food.
Evolution checklist
This is just a checklist of all of the trait combinations, to help you keep track!

Anything that doesn't meet the criteria of having gills or antenna plus a tail or flippers will become a Jumbo, making for a total of 13 evolution types.

Thank you for making this! This is still relevant. I got stuck on manta! And I didn’t realize food has influence on the form and I made a bunch of jumbo:loddlebuddy:

This is still really useful :)
I wanted a guide on what the food does without telling me exactly what food makes what form so that I could still have something to work out.
Thank you very much :)
