What's the point of this guide?

"Have we missed an Heretical Idol or is there one in the next area?"
"Are there one or two medicaes left in this map?"
"Is it me or this map has like, 20 dropdowns?"
"Where is the karking Martyr Skull?"
"Was there a penance that I can only get in this map, or was it on the other map that looks similar and has a name just as confusing?"

Ever had any of this urgent questions during a mission, reject? Fear not! Simply open the quick reference on another screen to check, without spending so much time that you die while looking. You will also avoid full spoilers if you want to figure out the Martyr Skull puzzles.

This guide will let you very quickly find the Heretical Idols, Martyr skulls, penances, or other point of interest in the map you are in, without having to check guides for the specific locations of any of them.

How to use these maps

This guide contains a simplified reference map for every single map in Darktide. Find the map for the mission that you are in, and open it to the side or on your phone to have a quick reference of where you can find all the points of interest in the map. If you are in a mission, you can press TAB to find out what the name is, then ctrl+f that here.

These are simplified line maps, describing only your progress through the map and not specific locations. You can find out where you are in the line by checking which airlocks, dropdowns and medicaes you have already passed. Around the line you can find information helping you figure out where you are, and where important stuff in the map is:

• All of the title cards that announce the name of the area when you reach a new one
  
• All of the dropdowns, airlocks, elevators, and doors that prevent progress.
  
• The places where monstrosities and daemonhosts can spawn
  
• The areas where Heretical Idols can spawn
  
• The approximate location of the Martyr Skull
  
• The approximate location where you can get a penance that is achievable only in this map
  
• The location of all of the Medicae stations in the map
  
• All of the map events

Besides that, the images contain:

• An event breakdown, with a reminder of what you will be mostly doing in all of the events in the map, including timers for long waits.
  
• A legend detailing what each of the icons in the line map mean.
  
• The title card for the map, in case you want to save the maps somewhere instead of opening this guide. This also includes the location and mission type, and a brief description of any penances listed.

Why are Grimoires and Scriptures not listed?

While I initially thought that scriptures and grimoires could spawn in too many locations, I've reviewed the guides more in-depth and the spawn locations might be clustered around some areas, making them something that can work here. I will consider updating the maps in the future to add them.

Grimoires and Scriptures can spawn in a lot of locations in each map, which makes adding them here pointless. For example, adding Scriptures would mean either covering 90% of the maps with three icons indicating "A Scripture can spawn somewhere around here" or, having 20 tiny "Scripture can spawn around here" icons. With either of these options, adding the scripture icon would not add any useful information to the map.

If you want to find these side objectives, I would recommend following one of the amazing guides already present in steam, and installing the "Collectible Finder" mod.

You missed something!

Each map contains a ton of information. I would be surprised if I hadn't missed anything. Please comment here if you spot anything that needs to be added, and I will add your name to the credits section if you want.

I am specially interested in:
- Monstrosity and daemonhost spawn locations, since those are the hardest to keep track for me. Either I run through a single map 30 times to make sure I got them all, or I have to rely on my bad memory. I will miss some. With these, just a comment will suffice.
- Heretical Idols that might spawn on the other side of a landmark. Since the spawns are chosen at random from predetermined locations, there might be a low chance for a Heretical Idol to spawn beyond the boundaries I have marked.
For these, I will ask you that you also submit evidence, either a screenshot or video.

I am not a graphic designer, so any tips on improving the visuals of the map are also welcome

I think thatd work out just fine, they can take up all of the width with some small separators, and on top of the extra size id recommend taking photos that do their best to show what each 'region' stands out the most, for visual clarity. The pics there are high FOV so they look like wide angle shots, but cropped to the important visual information I think itd come off as pretty clear.

I had already considered adding some pictures, however, I am not convinced they work.
They end up being quite small in order to fit, and I think you would need to zoom in to be able to see anything. That's a problem when they idea is that you should be albe to tell what everything is in the guide "At a glance"

I will probably end up playing around with it some more. There are other versions of the map that I might end up doing with somebody else's help that could work very well with the images. For now, I'm going to finish these as they are, and we will see in the future.

The images could use more Visual references, as they are its very hard to interpret the mission, and your position in the map. Maybe in the background green space of the location title, put a identifying screenshot of the area?
