Fixing the Epic Services connection issues, quick and simple.
So, probably like me, you thought it would be a fantastic idea to link your accounts to the Epic Services when booting it up for the first time. Then, in typical fashion, you're greeted with an endless loop of "connecting to Epic Online Services."

We'll, this guide is here to save the day. I couldn't find anything on this, but I've made a quick and simple guide for you to hopefully fix the issue. It takes 2min to do.
Quick Steps.
Head to Epic Games[store.epicgames.com]

Hover over your profile icon in the top right of the screen, and click on account.

You should see a section called Apps and Accounts

You would have linked your Steam with Epic, which is why you are here.

Unlink Steam here.

End Result
Now launch Dead Island 2 like normal.

You will be greeted with a message along the lines of:

"Would you like to connect your account to the Epic Services."

I would highly advise just clicking ESC and ignoring it for the future. Not unless you want to wind up back here again.

Thanks for your guide!

When attempting to unlink my account from steam I'm greeted with a "I will not be able to connect my Epic Games Account to another Steam account" statement I need to confirm.

Can you confirm this just means I won't be able to connect a different account? I'll be able to re-link the same account, right?

Yay Epic! So good! So cool!

When un-linking your Steam Account via the Epic Games, you will be greeted with this warning. The short answer, yes, you will be un-linking it for the duration you wish too. You can re-link your account at a later date if you would like too - this includes different Epic Games Accounts.

Just tick the 4x Boxes, remove account, and you are good to go.

I've confirmed this myself.
Linking Epic Accounts
If you do want to try in the future, you can link them in the settings.

That's all you gotta do is open the game directory, delete EpicGamesLauncher folder and change the NoOperatio=0 to 1 in the settings file (.ini)

Wow this and temporarily disabling Windows Audio finally got me into the main menu after two nights. What an amazing release.

I never did the steps you have mentioned, although I did read about it.

The first thing I did actually do, before doing what I've mentioned, was I uninstalled the "Epic Online Service" or whatever installed with Dead Island 2. I tried to boot it up, and it would auto-quit on me because I didn't have that program installed. So, I re-installed it, then ended up doing the steps I mentioned above - then had no issues getting into Dead Island 2.

"Before launching the game for the first time, go there -> "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dead Island 2" and delete the EpicGameLauncher folder. Then open the "DeadIsland.ini" file in notepad and modify the "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1"
If the epic game launcher is already installed on your computer, uninstall it before doing the steps above."

im getting "unable to initialize steamapi" error after i do this, any ideas?

Saw this fix in discussions. I hope it works. ATM thinking either buy or pass on this game.

Before launching the game for the first time, go there -> "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dead Island 2" and delete the EpicGameLauncher folder. Then open the "DeadIsland.ini" file in notepad and modify the "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1"
If the epic game launcher is already installed on your computer, uninstall it before doing the steps above.

Replying to the comment attached below. I will add this into the Guide, but yes, it just means you will be disconnecting it from that account - and you will be able to connect it at a later date.(I've tested it myself).
