Introduction

The Thief series has always had it is own bone fan base and has not been sufficiently appreciated in the world. As a result, it has not been possible to find completely accurate and up-to-date information about the Thief games. As a big fan of the Thief series, I thought that newcomers to the series should not suffer and that the Thief games do not deserve this. By preparing installation and modding guides about the games, I try to help those who will start the series on the one hand, and on the other hand, I try to ensure that the Thief series gets the value it deserves. You can find what you need to install and learn when starting the games in this guide.

Backup Files

Before following the steps in this guide, it is recommended that you back up your game files just in case. It is very important to have the original game files on hand.

The Unofficial Patch

Since the game is old, it does not run properly on modern systems. Low resolution support, non-working videos and graphical errors are among the most noticeable problems. In order to fix these issues and ensure that the game runs smoothly on modern systems, we will download and install the unofficial patch prepared by Thief's fan community.

The unofficial patch for Thief 2: The Metal Age.

Steam version have problems. You need to install either T2Fix Lite, T2Fix (Without Mods) or T2Fix (With Mods). GOG version doesn't have problems. Includes T2Fix Lite version. However, in order to fully benefit from the contents of T2Fix, you must also install either T2Fix (Without Mods) or T2Fix (With Mods) versions.

The T2Fix installer may not install if your file location is directory protected. For solution, put your game folder in C and install it like that. After installation, put your game folder back to its original place.

It asks what type of installation will be. Say custom.














Here it asks what improvements you want to install.

• Complete Mission and Resource Fix (Fixes all issues in Thief 2's original missions.)
  
• DromEd Level Editor (DromEd editor that lets you do fan missions in Thief 2.)
  
• Carry Body Mod (Improved AI and weapon textures and body transport textures.)
  
• Interactive Candles (Interactive candles. Adds fire around the candles, lets you extinguish them with a water arrow, by clicking on them, and allows you to light the unlit ones with a fire arrow.)
  
• T2 Skies (Dynamic sky. Thief 2 brings sky technology.)
  
• T2 Water (Improved water. Thief 2 brings water technology.)
  
• Thief Enhancement Pack (Improved object models and textures. Especially if you want to install ESRGAN, Enhancement Pack 2 or NecroAge texture mod.)
  
• Thief 2 Sound Emhancement Pack (A mod that improves the game's sounds.)
  
• Thief 2 English Subtitles (English subtitle patch to the game.)
  
• Thief 2 FM Fixes (With the advent of NewDark, some non-NewDark or non-NewDak fan missions stopped working properly. These minor fixes fixed these fan missions issues.)
  
• Thief 2 Multiplayer (Thief 2's multiplayer mode. If installed, it breaks the normal game. It should be played on a separate Thief 2 folder until it is fixed.)
  
• Legacy Executables (oldDark executables. Original and DDFixed included. Old engine. You shouldn't tick.)

Leave this screen as is. Click on Advanced at the bottom left. Here you have to make some adjustments.














Here are some settings.

• Enable Software Gamma (Enables gamma. Enable.)
  
• Force Windowed Mode (Forcing windowed mode. If you want.)
  
• Force VSync (Forcing VSync. Enable it.)
  
• Enable Multisampling (Enables multisampling. Enable.)
  
• Enable Postprocessing (It enables post-processing. It makes it very bright. I don't recommend it.)
  
• Enable HDR Rendering
  
  • Enable New Mantle (New jump system with NewDark.)
    
  • Enable Mantling Corrections (Fixes for new jump system.)
    
  • Disable Training Scripts (If you want to disable tutorial messages in normal mode.)
    
  • Enable Legacy Gamesys Exploits (Some old gamesys files.)
    
  • Always Install 1.18 Resources (version 1.18 resources.)
