Overview
1-2/2025 Indefinite update: Sorry for delays or any missing info. I’ve been in the hospital this whole month (and probably the next) for some critical stuff, so I haven’t been able to play anything or update. Once I’m back and functional I’ll look into the lists of questions slowly accumulating.
—————————

This guide mainly covers textile materials that make a difference for clothing/textile colors. I have a separate guide for metal, gem, and wood colors.

12/20: Added the winter event clothing to the default colors section. For the Winter Child Garb, anyway. There's no way to get default leather/felt colors anymore, so I had to use the closest option for the Jolly set.
11/2: FINALLY tracked down a damn Fabled Hippo thanks to Alifetobemade's tip (thank you!). I suspect there's only tier 3 out there, but if anyone's found other tiers please let me know. Working on slowly gathering enough T4 Fabled Harpy for those new colors too.
10/31: Added images for T5 Fabled Humbaba, which has some unexpected colors.

Feel free to use Ctrl+F to search for specific materials, colors, biomes, realms, or creature names.

The main fabric categories are Hide (refined into Leather, Felt, and Straps), and Fiber (refined into Refined Fiber, Thread, Twine, Cloth, and Lining).
  • Hide is dropped when skinning regular or Fabled creatures. (Bug hide can be made by turning Chitin into Chitinous Hide at a Tanning Bench.)
  • Leather and Felt as-is can sometimes be found at POIs or dropped in the form of "Bound Straps" from slaying Bound. (Bound is the only leather type that does not have a Felt form.)
  • Animal Fiber is made from Tiered or Fabled creature meat (including fish).
  • Plant Fiber can be found or harvested in the form of Crude Fiber, tiers 1-5 of Forest/Desert/Swamp Fiber (Holt Bloom, Cinder Strands, Titania's Crown), Bound and Advanced Bound Fiber, Wheat or Oat Fiber, Britomart's Locks, etc.
  • Thread, Refined Fiber, Rope, and Cloth can sometimes be found as loot or drop from certain enemies. Grendels (the swamp giants) drop their own unique thread when killed.
Notes:
  • There is no longer a distinction between Pelt and Skin like there was before the Realms Rebuilt update. It's all just hide now. Using Leather or Felt also doesn't make as much of a difference in most cases. Usually it's a darker or lighter variation of the same color/pattern. The biggest difference is probably Tier 4 Bug.
  • Clothing colors apply across the board even when crafting smaller components, like belts or backpack straps.
  • All fabrics in general are all clumped together as "Textiles", so anywhere you see a recipe looking for Textiles, you can use Leather, Reinforced Leather, Felt, Cloth, Durable Cloth, Lining, or Coating.

Creatures I'm Missing
  • T2 Weald Bear may take a while because I can't seem to get it to respawn in Abeyance.
  • I can't find a T3 Leporidon. It seems to skip from T2 to T4.
  • I don't think there are T2 or T4 of Taweret's Hippo, but I could be wrong.
If anyone knows where the above reliably spawn, please leave a comment! Otherwise those entries may be perpetually missing unless I somehow slooooowly collect RNG hide finds at POIs.
Default Clothing Colors [-RR WIP-]
The following images show the default coloring for each outfit (as in they match the icons in the equip boxes). I've included them because certain materials do not actually add color to pieces, such as Fish Animal Fiber.

I'm keeping the old screenshots up since the default outfit colors are still the same. However I may not be able to feature some of the newer ones, since as of the Realms Rebuilt update Leporidon now has a pattern when used, and I'll have to find a way to craft uncolored leather for those pieces.

Simple / Trapper / Tailcoat

NTTC / Explorer / Intrepid

Calcularian / Peacoat / Matron

Druidic / Hermetic

Jolly / Winter's Child
Earned during the 2024 Winter Holiday Event. I had to approximate the original colors for the Jolly set using Jabberwock cloth. There are no Jolly gloves or pants, so I used the ones from the Jabberwock example in the boss section to match. I'll have to play around with the dress to see if I can get the top to be a lighter color like in the event banner/blog post, but I'm not sure it's possible atm.

Umbrellas
As with clothing, embellishment color will vary based on the type of ingots used (tin or gold in this case).

Formerly Uncraftable
Many items could not be crafted pre Realms Rebuilt, so I don't have screens of them yet.

Some however, can be found worn by various recruitable NPCs within different realms, or received as quest rewards.
Leather and Felt
Outfits for showcasing hide feature the Unadorned Gloves, Calcularian Pants, and Staunch Boots for Leather, and Trapper's Shirt and NTTC Flatcap for Felt.

As a bonus, the Trapper's Shirt belt is made from twine crafted from the same creature's meat turned into Animal Fiber. There isn't that much of a difference now, but I'm including the different materials to be thorough.
• Hides: Predator / Prey / Bug / Bound
Predator, Prey, and Bug hides create single-color clothing, though color can vary slightly depending on whether you use Leather or Felt.

Predator
T1-T2 Predator: Felt is light mustard yellow, Leather is a bit darker with a leather texture
T3 Predator: Orange
T4 Predator: Dark pink with a raised embroidery texture
Predator cloth is the same color for T3 and T4, but T1-2 is reddish brown.

Prey
T1-T2 Prey: Felt is brown, Leather is a bit darker with a leather texture
T3 Prey: Periwinkle
T4 Prey: Slightly darker periwinkle with a raised embroidery texture
Prey cloth is the same color for T3 and T4, but T1-2 is tan.

Bug
T1-T2 Bug: Metallic mustard yellow
T3 Bug: Metallic brownish-purple
T4 Bug: Felt is smooth metallic bright pink, Leather is more rouge pink with a raised texture
Bug cloth is the same color and texture as the Leather.

Bound Straps
I used the Weathered Hat and Simple Coat here, because Bound Straps doesn't have a Felt form.
T2 Bound Straps: Gray
T3 Bound Straps: Bronze
T4 Bound Straps: Dull purple
All Bound Straps leather has a wrinkled skin texture.
Finding Fabled Hides
Fabled hides drop from unique, named creatures in specific realms. They can sometimes drop from regular creature kills or be looted from POIs or chests. (The drop chance from regular creatures seems to be higher than it used to be, but it's still pretty rare unless you hunt a lot.)

Tier 1: Abeyance, trading with Eoten or Giants, as drops when using a Trickster Card, or looted from POIs or chests.
Tier 2: Antiquarian and Astrolabe realms.
Tier 3: Provisioner to Hunt and the main 5 story realms.
Tier 4: Gauntlet and Ascended realms.
Tier 5: Fae Vault apex bosses.

Creatures in italic are unique or fabled, but do not drop hide.

Sylvan's Cradle: Azazel
Antiquarian: Achlis, Feorr, Wolf
Astrolabe: Bander, DW, Everhart
Provisioner: Beelzeboar, Bear
Herbarium: Achlis, Everhart
Gloom: --
Hunt: Elder Eoten, Bander, Beelzeboar, DW, Feorr, Wolf, Bear
Gauntlet/Vault: Fabled Elder Eoten, all except story bosses

Desert
Welkin's Reach: Sheliak
Gloriana's Tears: Yex, Elephas
Antiquarian: Elephas, Locust, Pawn
Astrolabe: Mongrel, Scorpion, Sere Eoten
Provisioner: Scarab, Rook
Herbarium: Pawn, Sere Eoten
Gloom: --
Hunt: Sun Giant, Elephas, Locust, Mongrel, Scarab, Scorpion, Rook
Gauntlet/Vault: Fabled Sun Giant, all except story bosses

Swamp
Magwytch Marsh: Magwytch, Taweret's Hippo
Hollowed Moor: Fishgoat, Galumph, Leporidon
All: Harpy (Fabled is a chance drop)
Antiquarian: Fishgoat, Galumph, Pihrat
Astrolabe: Leporidon, Haddox, Widower
Provisioner: Galumph, Tiddalik
Herbarium: Fishgoat, Haddox
Gloom: --
Hunt: Humbaba, Galumph, Leporidon, Pihrat, Tiddalik, Widower
Gauntlet/Vault: Humbaba, Bishop, all except story bosses

Three of them are an absolute pain to hunt: the Achlis and Everhart Deer, and the Bawcock’s Fishgoat. They’re all really fast and bolt halfway across the map if you get too close, so try to raise your stealth, crouch, and use a rifle with the Sniper charm. It may take quite a few tries, or until you're leveled enough to focus on stealth and ranged damage.

Due to the changes in difficulty level mechanics, there are currently no realms where normal or fabled T2 Beelzeboar, Khepri's Scarab, or Tiddalik actually spawn because they only first start showing up in Provisioner, which is T3 on Explorer/Easy mode.
• Boss Hides
Story Realm Creatures
The story realm bosses are always T3 from what I've seen so far. Jabberwock is T2.

T2 Monarch Locust: A camo gradient of magenta on the outside (arms and hands), and coral pink and rose toward the center of the torso.
T3 Monarch Locust: Pastel purple with pastel pink blotches
T4 Monarch Locust: Dark olive green with slightly lighter blotches
(If you're looking for 'pretty/girly' colors, T3 Locust is probably the closest you'll get.)

Selket's Scorpion
Fabled Selket's Scorpion hide drops from Guarfinn, the Desert's Venom in Astrolabe, Hunt, and Gauntlet Desert realms.
T2 Selket's Scorpion: Bright orange-red with purple and tan blotches
T3 Selket's Scorpion: Sewage brown (what else would you call it?) with orange blotches
T4 Selket's Scorpion: Tan with lighter tan blotches

Harpy hide drops from Harpies in Swamp realms of all types, with the Fabled variant being a rare drop. Other than normal minor pattern variation, there is no visual difference between T3, T4, and Fabled Harpy hide.
T2 Harpy: Tan with orange and brown streaks

T4 Fabled Harpy: (Working on gathering mats)
Harpy thread/cloth is the same pale coral regardless of tier.

Haddock's Ox/Haddox
Fabled Haddox hide drops from Tosq, the Brutal in Astrolabe, Herbarium, and Gauntlet Swamp realms.
T2 Haddox: A gradient of indigo at the outer edges/hands and maroon/violet toward the center of the torso, with lighter colored streaks.

T4 Haddox: Brownish olive with orange streaks, slightly darker at the hands

Leporidon
Fabled Leporidon hide drops from Ahwer, the High Fang in Astrolabe, Hunt, and Gauntlet Swamp realms.
T2 Leporidon: Purple with red rimmed camo
T3 Leporidon: ?
T4 Leporidon: Orange-brown and dark brown camo
T5 Leporidon: Dull light blue with tan camo
Weirdly, there are only T2, T4, and T5 so far. I have not actually found a T3 Leporidon yet. T2 drops in Astrolabe even on higher difficulties, and T4 starts at Hunt on Explorer/Easy when all other creatures are T3.

Pihrat
Fabled Pihrat hide drops from Blacktail, Scallywag of the Realms in Antiquarian, Hunt, and Gauntlet Swamp realms.
T2 Pihrat: Tan and pale orange camo
T2 Pihrat: Brown/tan and pale mustard camo
T3 Pihrat: Gray and very pale blue camo

Taweret's Hippo
Fabled Taweret's Hippo hide drops from Big Belly, Eater of Men in Magwytch Marsh. I haven't run across it in other realms, but some have said it also appears in Hallowed Moor.

T3 Taweret's Hippo: Purple with black blotches
T4 Taweret's Hippo: Probably unobtainable

T4 Tiddalik: Sky blue with large orange-red blotches

Widower Spider
Fabled Widower chitin drops from Navreau, Weaver of the Sphere in Hunt and Gauntlet Swamp realms.
T2 Widower Spider: Dull blue-gray with bright orange and brown streaks
T3 Widower Spider: Tan with orange-red streaks. Felt seems to be a lighter tan than Leather, but that might vary by the piece
T4 Widower Spider: Maroon with pale purple and brown streaks
Fiber, Thread, and Cloth
Cloth outfits feature the Explorer's Hat, Druidic Casual Shirt, Frontiersman's Breeches, Explorer's Gloves, and Hermetic's Boots. The Felt for the boot tips I tried to either match to the cloth colors or use as neutral a color as possible.

Cloth made from Predator / Prey / Bug / Fabled meat now all take on the same colors or patterns as the Leather or Felt, so I won't show them here. You can see a small example of it in the Trapper's Shirt belt in the above screenshots, since it's made from Twine using the same creatures' Animal Fiber.

Crude / Forest / Desert / Swamp
Crude: Dusty brown
Holt Bloom: Grass green
Cinder Strands: Dark tan
Titania's Crown: Dull green

Bound Fiber
Advanced Bound Fiber is the same color as Bound Fiber of the same tier, but with a much more pronounced texture. In the examples below, left half is regular, right half is advanced.
T2 Bound Fiber: White with texture
T3 Bound Fiber: Light dusty blue with texture
T4 Bound Fiber: Rosy pink with texture

Grendel Thread
Grendels are the Swamp realm giants. Their thread is only obtainable by killing them. Trading with the Druid only gets you a buff.
T1-2 Grendel: Yellow-orange plaid
T3 Grendel: Red plaid
T4 Grendel: Dusty blue plaid
Grendel Druid Thread does not add color to cloth yet, so using it will show the default outfit colors.

Materials that don't change color of fabrics (yet):
  • Wheat / Oats
  • Fish Animal Fiber (made from fish at a Tanning Bench)
  • Grendel Druid Thread
  • Luminous Spore (T5, looks like a giant blue mushroom tree; any Swamp, guaranteed node in Magwytch Marsh F5)
  • Britomart's Locks (T5, any Ascended Desert; looks like a termite hill with white tufts)
Note: You need a level 100 Sickle for the Spores and Locks.
Other Stuff
I have another guide up for metal and gems, which covers colors as well as a bit more info about realm and pick levels, where to find them, images, stats, etc.: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3195117908

thank you for keeping guide updated, and get well soon!

So using fish animal fiber as you mention in the box at the box give you the default colour of the clothing item, though i did only test it on the scholar dress for the original red. Which is nice imo.

Looks like that black fish cloth I was referring to was indeed a bad texture file. Bit of a bummer, that.
CrazyPixie 3 jan om 16:23
thank you for making this! A grid if possible like the gems and metals would be amazing

Quite a few, but it was most easily seen on the tailcoat jacket, squire top hat and stirrup boots. If I remember right the bug/fish bowler didn't get the black, just a slightly darker bug texture for the band.

@Grey Wynaught: Thanks! I'll keep going with trying to find one, but good to know!
Absurd Logic  [auteur] 30 dec 2024 om 19:32
@Dingadingdang: I just made a full outfit out of Chaparral Trout to test out, and it looks like everything is still default. The tie (lining) for the Druid Casual Shirt is black by default, so no way to tell there. Which outfit or clothing piece(s) did you make?
Dingadingdang 30 dec 2024 om 18:39
I don't know if there was an update recently or if I had a bad texture file, but I found that using fish to make cloth (T2) resulted in a black fabric. It held true for every fish type I tried up to and including Welkin's Reach. I've started a harder playthrough so I'll be re-checking this though you might be able to test it faster in an established save.

The bug/fish combo didn't look too bad, imo. Azazel and fish didn't look too shabby either.

I found T3 Leporidon in an Explorers Hunt Swamp, it has the same colors as the T4.

Holy #%^& this is amazing. This should be pinned on Inflexion's homepage.
