Multiplayer on Win11 in 2025 *after CE update*

The gfwl version with working multiplayer is still right here in Steam and you can play it within the next 10 minutes.

Beta Client

Progress made in the Collectors Edition version is probably lost when you go further! Backup from your save directory before you install the beta client!

Right click on the game in the Steam library, then click on properties.
Click on the "Beta" tab.
In the dropdown menu, select "gfwl - old gfwl version".
Close the window and the game will update to the old client that works with multiplayer.


Notes:

- gfwl stands for "Games for Windows Live" which is an ancient multiplayer implementation in Windows that kinda worked with the Xbox 360.

GFWL Client Installation *easy, don't worry*

In Windows Explorer, browse to the game installation directory (Right click on the game, click on "manage", click on "browse local files").
In that there is a folder "support", containing three installers.
If you are not sure if you have the latest DirectX 9.0c drivers *cough*, install it from the DirectX folder with the "DXSETUP.EXE".
After that, install the "vcredist.exe" (x64 if you have a 64bit system which is most likely, or the x86 for 32bit systems).
Then install the "XLiveRedist01.02.0241.00.msi".

Microsoft Account

Start the game.
There should be a 2006 looking dock popping down from the top of the screen, asking you to log into your Microsoft account. Do that. It will take a loooong time but only the first time. As long as you don't receive an error message, wait. Once successfully logged in, it will "download your account", whatever that means.
If you don't have a Microsoft account, create a new one in your browser and use that login.



Notes:
- The 2006 dropdown menu can be rebinded so you can use it for inviting friends or player you recently played with. It still works, which is a miracle.
- When not logged into an account, no progress will be saved in this gfwl version.

CD Key

You will now be prompted to enter a CD key.
In previous Steam versions these were provided, which they are unfortunately not anymore.

Run the GWFL Online Fixer.exe, even though it was obviously made for GTA4.
You can copy and paste the key directly from the keygen to the Flatout UC ingame menu.
You can now enter multiplayer with the "live" button.

Notes:
There are not many players online in this game, probably more now because of the CE release than in two weeks. If you don't find a session right away, just create one and wait. Eventually someone will join.

thank you! but please move the phrase about the loss of a save files so it goes before explanation of how to install gfwl version. i could lose my 20h save file, but fortunately turned off the update right away. but needed to reinstall the game.

Yes it works. For Flatout UC, only the supplied one works, actually. You could run into problems with the newer versions.
