Isaac Online Beta Completion Mark Fix (Without Beta Access)
By Vegeta LGBT+
Hi, everyone! I'm sure many of you have suffered from the problem of your achievements being registered, but all marks being gone from your game after participating in the Online BetaAlpha.

If none of the fixes listed in the patch notes or this video https://youtu.be/Td4CBY2kPIY?si=QnrBm6aRA_oEWzUD work for you, I'll be explaining in detail how to fix this issue. The files of this game are really convoluted and obtuse sometimes, probably because it was made in a custom engine. So, here's a comprehensive guide on how to fix this issue.

Files you'll want to have open:

C://Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > (profile name, this can also be a list of numbers like "161049605") > 250900 > remote

C://Users > (username) > Documents > My Games > Binding of Isaac Repentance

C://Users > (username) > Documents > My Games > Binding of Isaac Repentance > save_backups. (If you only recently got the game, this folder is probably relatively small; players who have been playing since at least AB should have plenty of save backups stored here.)

(It's important to use an older backup listed in the "save_backups" folder; As long as you know it has all your achievements. You can check this by clicking on the Dead God icon of your unlocked achievements; that will open a page detailing the exact day you got Dead God, and will provide valuable reference for the save backups.

I used a save from July of last year, and it completely fixed the problem; I knew that I had gottenDead God around June 2022, so I went to data that existed before the beta was even announced, and far beyond when I achieved Dead God, and used that. This fixed every problem I was having.)

What to do:

  • WARNING: DO NOT delete the files named "gamestate1", "ab_gamestate1", "ab_persistentgamedata1/2/3", or "abp_persistentgamedata1/2/3" .

(These files are all named the same thing, but with a different number at the end of them correlating to which save file is in question; 1 being the first save file, 2 being the second, and 3 being the third.)

This will remove any progress you've made in the previous expansions (afterbirth and afterbirth plus) and will prevent your game from being able to patch that data into the Repentance files themselves. If you don't have any backups ready on the fly, you're kinda SOL when you do this.

  1. Go to the "remote" file mentioned above, and delete any instances of "rep_beta_persistentgamedata1/2/3", and "rep_beta_rerunstate1/2/3".

  2. IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP AT THE READY, delete any instances of "rep_persistentgamedata1/2/3" .

  3. Then, copy + paste the backups of saves you have into the "remote" file, and rename them "rep_persistentgamedata1/2/3" , removing the date in front of them, if you happened to get them from the "save_backups" folder in "Binding of Isaac Repentance" .

Keep those files in your clipboard.

  4. What you'll then want to do is go into the "Binding of Isaac Repentance" folder, and delete any files with the phrase "persistentgamedata1/2/3" in them.

  5. Then, paste the files saved to your clipboard into the folder, renaming them "persistentgamedata1/2/3" .

(In case you're wondering what the difference is here, it's the fact that you're naming the files in the "remote" folder with the "rep_" prefix, while that's absent in the files in the "Binding of Isaac Repentance" folder.)

  6. One of the last few steps is this: Right click Isaac in your Steam library, go to "Properties" , and disable Steam Cloud saves.

  7. After that, go into "options.ini" , and change "SteamCloud" from 1 to 0. Save.

  8. Launch the game. If you've done everything right, the game should have the completion marks and challenge marks back, as well as all your listed items in the stats menu. You aren't done yet, so close the game, for now.

(If you HAVEN'T done everything properly at this point, the "remote" and "Binding of Isaac Repentance" folders will automatically update themselves and the "date modified" sections of the imported files, making new save data. If this happens, you'll need to find an older backup, and repeat steps 1-8.)

  9. Restart Steam. If task manager only closes and reopens Steam, go to "Steam" , and click "Exit" .

  10. Go into "options.ini" again, and change "SteamCloud" back from 0 to 1. Save again.

  11. Go back into "Properties" in Isaac, and switch Steam Cloud saving back on.

(It's important to do those steps in the proper order; don't do the last one, and then the first one. I did this multiple times, and I'm not exactly sure if it flaws the process at all, but better safe than sorry.)

  • Launch the game again. If everything looks good, congrats! You've successfully registered your saved data back into the marks of the game. I'm sure it's satisfying.

(Whenever you launch the game with Steam Cloud saving on, the files in "remote" and "Binding of Isaac Repentance" will automatically be restored, including files related to the beta. This means, if you did everything right, the cloud data in your folders now lines up with the local data showing your achievements off, and you're done with the process.)

  • If this didn't work, repeat steps 1-11.
