How to fix Multiplayer Disconnecting

Getting "Server closed the connection" while playing with friends for a short time? Here is the solution, which took me a long time to find.

ONLY FOR PRE-1.6

I made this guide before the 1.6 update, which fixed the networking issues that the mod was useful for. As such, this guide is completely unnecessary for 1.6+ users, but is still helpful for anyone playing multiplayer on an earlier version.

Introduction

So I recently tried multiplayer with my brother and I kept struggling with a disconnect every 5-15 minutes. I also noticed huge lag spikes, where I would not be able to pick up items for a prolonged time.

Solution

I'll keep this brief: the mod SteamDew[www.nexusmods.com] will fix your issues (unless your connection is just bad, a mod won't fix that).

Why did I make this guide?

I haven't seen this anywhere on the Steam forums, and only became aware of it due to some Redditor who mentioned it in one of the many forums that discuss this issue (I did not make or find this mod by myself). I simply want to share here to spread the word and help anyone else struggling with this issue.

NOTES

1. ALL players must have this mod installed for it to work.
2. According to many sources, the next major Stardew Valley update will fix the multiplayer issue, and the mod will not be necessary.

Hell_Spawn117, I have not played multiplayer online recently, but the 1.6 update did remove the need for SteamDew (I tested this). As such I am leaning towards another error not game-related. How long has this been an issue? You are more than welcome to try the mod, if it works, great! Just remember that all players must have SteamDew installed. For the record, uou are the only person I know who seems to still be having these issues, so don't necessarily blame the devs; it could be an obscure setting in windows or such.

net work issues are not fixed i started playing after the new patch and i have only had a instance of multiplayer where i wasnt disconnected every few minutes. might still try mod since the devs cant make this game function
