How to start RCT2:TTP as OpenRCT2 with Automatic Updates (OpenLauncher) [2024 update]

In this simple guide you will learn how to launch OpenRCT2 with steam overlay.
This guide uses OpenLauncher, so you can keep your game up to date.

Simple step by step guide

NB: This is a guide for Windows. I can not verify if this works for different OS.

Step 1:
Download OpenLauncher[github.com] from IntelOrca's GitHub page.

Step 2:
Go to your steam library search for RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack
Right click, hover over Manage and click "Browse local files"

Step 3:
Rename `RCT2.EXE` to something else (or delete the file).
Drag and drop `openlauncher.exe` in the Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 folder
Rename `openlauncher.exe` to `RCT2.exe`.

Step 4:
Launch the game through steam.
If you did everything right your game will now launch into OpenLauncher.
You can update OpenRCT2 and OpenLoco from here and launch the game.

OpenLauncher will download the game to Documents/OpenRCT2/bin.

When you launch OpenRCT2 through the OpenLauncher Steam will still register the game as being played on Steam, and Steam overlay works, too!

It sometimes does that, though I believe this item should be signed, I will have to ask. And no it doesn't block it "because of malware" it blocks it because it's an unknown source to it.

Would be cool if this somehow could use command lines or something to change the path to OpenRCT2, since it always downloads the newest version into the Documents Folder, which i don´t use. I´m using OpenRCT2 with various commands which changes the Path of it´s config Folder and other things to make it truly portable. The OpenLauncher however always downloads it into the same path, which is sadly pretty useless in my environment.

I got the duplicate coaster blueprints and managed to fix it by cutting all the blueprints in the rtc2 track folder and pasting them into the openrtc2 track folder.

I don't know if because I already had OpenRCT2 installed if this is the problem, but when I play and go to build a roller coaster the list of premades is doubled making it very annoying to pan through and select the one I want... trying fresh to see if it fixes
