General Info

  • Magicka 2 is being developed by Pieces Interactive[www.piecesinteractive.se].
    Overview:
Magicka (Jan 2011), the first game in the franchise, was developed by Arrowhead. Pieces Interactive then continued making DLCs.
Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet (Mar 2013) was developed by Ludosity.
Magicka: Wizard Wars (open beta since May 2014) is being developed by Paradox North.

  • Magicka 2 uses the same engine as M:WW, bitsquid.
Naturally we can expect to see many features from M:WW ported to Magicka 2!

  • Considering Magicka 2 uses a better engine than Magicka and be developed by a more competent dev team, it will not only be optimized a lot better, but also a lot have less bugs.

  • There will be local co-op.

  • Magicka 2 takes place after both the first game and Magicka: Wizard Wars.
"A civil war that left the faceless, hooded mages of Midgard either loony or dead", says producer Peter Cornelius.
You'll play as one of the few survivors, set on a mission to save the world - though whether this quest is legitimate is up for debate given you'll be working on behalf of Vlad...

  • There will be DLCs, but only a bunch of bigger ones, not a ton of mini DLCs.

  • Magicka 2 will not have a PvP mode when it's released, as M:WW is focused on PvP. However Magicka 1 didn't have a PvP mode either when it was released, so who knows...

  • There will be lots and lots of challenge levels.

  • Most likely there won't be a DRM[www.gamespot.com], however you might need your Paradox Account to log in, like in Wizard Wars.

  • 110% as many sausages in Magicka 2 as in Magicka 1!
Gameplay

FEATURES FROM MAGICKA
  • You are able to use 5 elements per spell (3 in M:WW, 4 in MWotST).

  • Area- and selfcast are seperated and NOT combined to a streamlined, context sensitive system like in M:WW. There are 4 cast types in total.

  • Arcane (Death) mines knock back but Life mines don't.

  • Default HP is 1000.

  • EDXXX (X not W,S,E) don't explode but deal constant damage to nearby enemies.

  • Pure shield barriers work like in Magicka, they have health and you're be able to boost them. However it's unknown yet whether they block everything (Magicka) or only beams (M:WW).

  • Freezing works like in Magicka. Casting cold at people will instantly chill them, but they can only be frozen if you wet them and then cast cold.

  • You can imbue your weapon with spells.
It is possible to cast earth fissure, but they're wide and short instead of thin and long like in Magicka.

  • Fozen mobs automatically unfreeze after a few seconds.

  • The windpush from Magicka is available, it seems to be a magick though.

FEATURES FROM WIZARD WARS
  • Most of the spells look like like in MWW.

  • Players have to spam LMB to unfreeze.

  • Q and R are seperate elements and don't combine.

  • Ice and Stone walls look like in M:WW (but have the effects from Magicka).

  • There MIGHT be emoticons/gestures (dancing for example) in Magicka 2 at some point.

NEW FEATURES
  • Revive and other magicks cannot be casted rapidly (spammed).
To achieve this there will be a system similar to M:WW's focus system.
However the player should always be able to cast at least one magick! This is to prevent spamming of powerful magicks (for example thunderbolt spam in Magicka) but also to encourage a more tactical use of magicks.

  • Like in M:WW, you're able to move while casting spells. Additionally to that you're able to move even while channeling self-heal and lightning spells.

  • If two beams with opposite elements colide they create a bomb which explodes a few moments later. The casters are not knocked over.

  • Cold deals about the same amount of direct damage as fire.

  • Mines charge up over time. If you let the mines lie around for a few moments, they get more powerful. They also start glowing when they're fully charged.

  • Magicka 2 mixes things up with deeper customisation. Robes and staffs affect stats and abilities.

  • Newly introduced Artifacts can have huge impact on each level, such as letting you modify the enemy's health or the magick regeneration speed to affect overall difficulty.
Other artifacts have comedic effect. For example the Sitcom Artifact, which adds studio laugh tracks and applause, or the Bobblehead, which adds an old-school big head mode!
Of course you will be able to activate multiple artifacts at the same time!

  • Reworked Gamepad Controls: Guide your mage around the screen with the left stick while targetting your magick with the right. The eight elements are mapped to the four face buttons, tapping the right shoulder button lets you switch between each half-set. Queue up the spell you want to cast and pull the right trigger. (gamepad diagram[www.html5rocks.com])

  • It's possible to hot-join games, meaning you are able to join games that are already in progress!

  • The game's difficulty scales with the amount of players. This affects hot-join too.

  • There are more mobs with weaknesses/strengths, immunities and actual weakspots.
Some mobs are also going to move a lot faster than others to counter the very mobile wizards.

  • Some non-wizards mobs have special attacks and abilities. For example an Orc Brute can conjure a stone wall and then charge its prey. The stone wall sort of traps the target and stops the orc if it doesn't hit.
Or enemies who drain your magick power, so you can't use special magicks.

  • Frozen units actually reflect beam spells.

  • Classic units like goblins, orcs and trolls will of course return in Magicka 2, but there
are also many completely new enemies like crabs.

  • Similar to MWW's imps and Magicka's fairy, there will be familiars adding various bonuses and effects.

  • There will be more interactions with the environment. For example: In order to proceed you have to open a gate. Do this by making a water wheel spin by casting Q(QQQQ) at it.
It's also possible to destroy parts of the environment, for example destroying a corn field with fire sprays.

  • Completing levels will unlock artifacts, magicks, robes, robe skins and more.
(You'll probably be able to unlock these things by other means too, but we don't have definite info on this yet.)

  • In some if not all levels you can find Dark Altars. Activating them via the correct spells starts a mini-event with powerful enemies. Completing these battles will award you extra loot (and experience?) at the end of the level.

  • Ice shard spells are like a mix of Magicka's and MWW's ice shards.

I'm very disappointed after sneak peak. Cancelled my pre-order. Hope they will fix control problems and return normal element combination.
[Lemons] Derp  [создатель] 7 мар. 2015 г. в 10:27
Yeah, but I think it will be more "unlockable" than "collectable" (but it is just personal assumption).
Rtma Eros Paragon 7 мар. 2015 г. в 10:16
Thanks for the Quick reply. o.-.o are they going to be something like Halo Skulls? once you pick them up you can Enable/Disable them for gameplay?
[Lemons] Derp  [создатель] 7 мар. 2015 г. в 10:13
There will be artifacts, so you will be able to modify the difficulty
Rtma Eros Paragon 7 мар. 2015 г. в 10:10
Please tell me if their is going to be a Base Difficulty Slider Option like Easy, Normal, Hard, nothing conveluted, something for everybody, cause it was a pain to play the 1st one Solo.
