Kinect in Garry's Mod
The Xbox 360 Kinect has been supported in Garry's Mod for a long time, allowing you to control ragdolls using your physical body:

However, Kinect support in Garry's Mod is only available in the 32-bit version of the game, and additionally only works with the Xbox 360 Kinect.

This guide will show you how to use gmcl_rekinect to use your Xbox One Kinect in Garry's Mod, or use your Xbox 360 Kinect in the 64-bit version of the game.
Requirements
  • An Xbox 360 Kinect or an Xbox One Kinect
  • A power and USB adapter for your Kinect in order to connect it to your PC
  • Windows
  • For Xbox 360 Kinect users, Kinect for Windows Runtime 1.8[www.microsoft.com]
  • For Xbox One Kinect users, Windows 10 or Windows 11
Installing gmcl_rekinect
Using an Xbox One Kinect in Garry's Mod is not officially supported. Therefore, the community has reimplemented Kinect support in Garry's Mod, allowing you to use the Xbox One Kinect or the Xbox 360 Kinect in both the 64-bit or 32-bit versions of the game.

So, let's install gmcl_rekinect[github.com]:
  1. Make sure Garry's Mod is closed.
  2. Open your Garry's Mod installation directory. You can find this by right clicking Garry's Mod on Steam, clicking "Properties", clicking the "Installed Files" tab, and then clicking "Browse".
  3. Navigate into the garrysmod/lua/ folder.
  4. Create a new folder called bin. If it already exists, skip this step.
  5. Download the latest release of gmcl_rekinect.zip from the Releases[github.com] page.
  6. Drop all of the files inside the .zip file into the garrysmod/lua/bin/ folder you just created.

Your bin folder should now look something like this:

Using rekinector
Next, we'll download rekinector. This is a companion program that comes with gmcl_rekinect that "injects" it into a running game of Garry's Mod, allowing you to use your Xbox One Kinect even on multiplayer servers.
  1. Make sure Garry's Mod is closed.
  2. Download rekinect_win64.exe from the Releases[github.com] page. If your computer is 32-bit, download rekinect_win32.exe instead.
  3. Open the program. If Windows SmartScreen says this app isn't trusted, click "More Info" and then "Run Anyway".
  4. Launch Garry's Mod and start a singleplayer game or join a multiplayer server.
Using the Kinect in-game
Now that you have installed and injected gmcl_rekinect, you should be able to control ragdolls in-game!
  1. Open the spawn menu with Q and spawn a ragdoll. For example, under "Half-Life 2" click "Characters" and spawn one of the humans.
  2. Hold C to open the context menu and right click on the ragdoll.
  3. Click "Control with Motion Sensor". If you don't see this, your Kinect is either not connected to your PC or you haven't installed gmcl_rekinect correctly.
  4. Stand in front of your Kinect and start playing!
Enjoy!
