CATS addon not working in latest blender versions

Hey there! My name is Dev and I in this guide I will show you how to manually get the CATS addon to work in the latest blender versions(including 4.0).

First things first...

Click on the .zip file you downloaded and look for a file called __innit__.py

Taking a look at the code!

Look for the highlighted line and then just delete the 'TESTING' string

Your code should now look like this

You are done!

Don't forget to save the .py file! Now open blender and install the .zip file! And it should be working without any issues!

You can literately go to the Official Cats discord server to check this information in the FAQ, that is where the latest official information is.

The guide isn’t updated so I haven’t check if it works in the current blender version or not.
If it doesn’t work you can take the other advice from the comments but please verify the links before you click them. They may be completely normal but it just seems a bit off to me.

Do not use the guide, it will not fix anything as Cats both released versions and the dev branch has alot more issues on blender 4.x and this wasn't even official advice at the time of the guides creation, please see: https://catsblenderplugin.xyz/ to get the correct version of cats for your blender version like the unofficial version for Blender 4.x.

As a rule of thumb, use the following versions:

Main branch/Released version: Blender 2.79, 2.8x, and 2.9x
Dev Branch: Blender 3.0 to 3.6.x (though we recommend unofficial for 3.6.x)
Unofficial Cat's Blender Plugin: Blender 3.6.x to 4.3
