For Honour
This guide is not meant for cheating.

The method described here is to save you from frustration when running into a playthrough threatening bug while playing the game in Honour Mode.

There is no Honour in losing all your efforts due to a bug or another technical issue.

That put aside, you are free to play however you want. Honour Mode is there to give your choices and actions ingame even more meaning while also confronting you with a bigger challenge. Allowing for a fresh thrill after a previously finished playthrough.

It is absolutely worth it to play Honour aka Fun.

Good luck honourable adventurer!
You'll need it.
Exit the Game Safely
First thing first: there is no "normal" way how to exit the game safely, without Honour Mode automatically doing an autosave. Because of that we forcefully kill the game's process instead of giving it a command to shut down. That way the game gets terminated without even getting the chance to autosave - allowing you to reload from an actual earlier savegame.

To kill the process use the hotkey combination

WIN+R

or

Right-click on the Windows icon in your taskbar and select Run

Then you enter the following command

If you are running the game in Vulkan use the command

taskkill /f /im bg3.exe

If you are running the game in DirectX use the command

taskkill /f /im bg3_dx11.exe

What is the meaning of the command?
taskkill = tells Windows to terminate a specified task
/f = tells Windows to do the command (termination in this case) forcefully
/im = image name - look for the task which is reflected as ...

In other words: Windows, terminate the task with the image name ...

The image name is in this case = executable of the game
Clear LevelCache
After you killed the game's process you could in theory reload your latest savegame right away without the loss of Honour. But since you also have encountered a bug I strongly recommend to purge the game's LevelCache to reduce the chances to encounter a glitch.

Go to

%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\

and there delete the folder LevelCache

Making a Savegame Backup
An alternative approach to killing the game's process would be using savegame backups you do while the game is still running. It is also a good way to counter Steam Cloud related savegames issues, by having a manual backup parat.

Go to

%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

to locate and backup your Honour Mode savegame.

For your convenience, you can copy & paste the link into the address bar of your Windows Explorer, as shown in this screenshot:

When backing up your savegame, make sure to backup the entire folder of the savegame you wish to preserve.

You use the backup by putting it back to the original location after the original file has been deleted or overwriting the original files in the process.

Bypassing Updates
You can easily bypass a forced Steam update of the game by launching the game via its executable after exiting Steam. While this may help you complete your Honour Mode playthrough in the version of the game you played previously, Steam achievements will not be triggered unless the game has been launched with Steam.

Nevertheless, this is an option worth mentioning for multiplayer as well.

To locate your game's executable:

Right-click on the game's entry in your Steam Library -> Manage -> Browse local files

Enter the subfolder bin

Select bg3_dx11.exe for DirectX OR bg3.exe for Vulkan

Launch the game using this method AFTER exiting Steam to bypass Steam's autoupdate
