How to add the 5th bot without cheats/mods

Learn how to spawn the 5th bot without use any cheat or mod in campaign/survival mode. Simple, fast, works on Valve servers and sv_cheats-free.

How-To

NOTE: You can't make this alone, you need at least another real player.

1. (Campaign mode only) Let everyone exit from the saferoom.
   
2. Press ESC and then Go idle/Take a break.
   
3. Open the developer console(learn more) and type:
   

   jointeam 2 X
   Replace the X with a character played by a real player (Nick,Coach,Rochelle,Ellis,Francis,Bill,Louis,Zoey)

   Example: If a player is playing as Nick, then you should type jointeam 2 nick.

4. Press Enter and return to play. You will spectate the game like when you are dead and your actual character will be took by a bot.
   
5. Restart the game or kill everyone.

After the restart, the bot that took your character will still alive and he's playing as 5th player. The screenshot simply explain the result.

Pro & Cons

Pro

• It's another Survivor that can help you.
  
• He will grab everything like a normal bot.
  
• He can help incapped players.
  
• The fifth bot gets the same inventory and stats from the last chapter if you restart it during a campaign mode.
  
• You can spawn more than one bot: complete the step 4, exit from the game then rejoin.
  
• This trick works on every server(Valve's officials too) on every Campaign/Survival map.

Cons

• As listed above, he can take everything like a normal bot. So, maybe you can see him taking/stealing a medikit in the saferoom, leaving someone without that.
  
• In Campaign mode, starting a new chapter will disappear every spawned bot. You have to respawn them again so.
  
• Survival/campaign servers usually have got players limit to four. This means that nobody can join the game to take his control. A player can take its control if the server's player limit is set greater then five.
  
• If this fifth bot gets down, any other bot will try save him, also if he's too far or it's better let him die, leaving your group.

Thanks Davide. Yeah, I'm kinda bummed out. I started the lobby so I could do the Realism-Expert achievement, so I know I should've gotten it. I took no chances on that one seeing as it's not only difficult, but finding people who are willing to stick through 1hr of playing to accomplish it is not easy. So yeah, I don't know why I didn't get it and all I could think of was that we had a 5th player in the game.

Does this negate achievements?

I did Realism-Expert achievement from start to finish, but at the end, I didn't get the achievement. In the final chapter of Dead Center, another player spawned in a 5th player (bot) because we were short on real players. I believe they used this methods because he instructed for me to kill everyone and then die myself so we could restart.

Just so everyone Knows: Yes it does work in versus. but you will be bugged!

In Ghost Spawn Mode:
#1: you cannot spawn your infected (so you will see the ghost spawn mode as survivor)
#2: you cannot pick up a primary Weapon. (and you cannot use the infected attack)
#3: you cannot swing melee weapons or shove.
#4: Magnum is the only Useful thing you can use!
#5: You can Heal/Revive others still
#6: You Are Invicible (Immune to everything but boomers NOTE: common cannot attack either)
#7: You Are Invisible (no one can see you unless you just went away from there view for 2 secs
#8: You have the speed of a Ghost which is like 460 (Survivor:210 | Hunter: 300)
#9: You cannot take any Damage from Falling
#10: You Cannot Use Infected Ladders!
#11: You Can Pick Up Throwables/Pills/Adrenaline but cannot use them!

So long story short.

@Shadow! Yes you can add more than one without other players doing it too but you have to leave the game and come back every time you want to add another one, very old bug. Lol
