Fix Blank Save on online

Quick guide to fix the blank save bug while playing the online beta and recover your data (hopefully).

Backup your progress before playing the online beta.

First of all, you need to copy you savefiles to another different folder before playing the online beta.

You can access to it via Documents>my games>The binding of isaac.


You should see some saves with the extension .dat named persistentgamedata.
Copy those and paste them in a different folder to backup (you can copy them all, but you only need the most recent one to save).

The bug itself

While changing from the normal mode to the online beta, you might have encountered that all your items were gone. Not the achievements, in my case, but all character marks were gone.

You need to access to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(Your steam account ID)\250900

go to the "remote" folder, and then paste your backed up files without the date number.


It should be something like: "rep.persistentgamedata1.dat".

Then, reopen your game and your save file must be back

- By "removing the date" I mean to remove those numbers at the start of the name:


20231201.rep_persistentgamedata1.dat - is from 12/01/2023

by removing the date (just renaming the file), it should be something like:

rep_persistentgamedata1.dat

@Hav0c_on You need to click on the name of the file twice. Slowly though, you have to wait about 1 second before the second click or you will just open the file. This will allow you to edit the text of the file name.

I had an issue with going from the Beta back to the regular game. Lost all my marks in response to backing out of the Beta. The steps I had to take are similar with an extra step or two. I had to open the options.ini file which is mixed in with the saved data and changed "SteamCloud" from 1 to 0. I then had to change my save data to persistentgamedata1.data because it would not recognize it with the rep_ before it. As a precaution I made sure that the cloud save was off on steam under the game properties as well. I hope this helps. Your guide got me going in the right direction.
