[Half-Life: Source] Change language (interface and audio)

This guide is designed to help you play the game with language settings, regardless of the language that is selected in the Steam interface settings.

This guide will also allow you to play with setting text in one language and audio in another.

For example: you can choose German for text and Spanish for voice acting.

The launch options presented in this guide completely ignore Steam settings, which means that you will need to select the desired audio language in the game properties or in the game options through the main menu. Because the game requires language audio files.

English version for all users

Follow this steps:

1. Exit from Half-Life: Source
   
2. Go to Steam > LIBRARY > select Half-Life: Source > click right mouse button on it
   
3. Choose Properties… > on General tab you must look at LAUNCH OPTIONS text box
   
4. On LAUNCH OPTIONS text box just type/or copy/paste -language
   Example:
   

   -language german

   This option will make the text language of the game menu in German
   
   (including the user interface, for example the text with the inscription “Health”, as well as the names of weapons and everything else that the user sees directly in the game itself)
   
   
5. A little higher we have a line with a drop-down menu called Language; in Half-Life: Source it only changes the audio language. You can select the desired audio language from this menu.
   
   
6. On LAUNCH OPTIONS text box just type/or copy/paste -audiolanguage
   Example:
   

   -audiolanguage spanish

   This option will change all characters' voices to Spanish, including your H.E.V. Suit.
   
   In conclusion, you will have a menu and interface language in German, a character voice language and H.E.V. Suit is in Spanish (if you selected Spanish in the language selection drop-down menu above)
   
   
7. This code can be combined like this:
   

   -language german -audiolanguage spanish

   
   
8. Below is a complete list of languages that are available in Half-Life: Source.

Important note: Half-Life: Source does not have most audio languages; In most cases you will only have interface available.

Important note: In some cases, you will need to completely shut down the Steam program itself and then launch Steam again.

Via the menu «Steam» > «Exit» or via right-clicking on the Steam's icon on the system tray.

This will help if the Half-Life: Source language has not changed!

Minor note: Half-Life: Source Russian have only H.E.V. Suit voice and localized "Loading… (Загрузка…)" texture, there is no localization for voice acting language for game characters
