Override the game with OpenLoco

The guide will show you how to play OpenLoco instead of the original game.

Required files

First you need to download OpenLoco

Goto https://openloco.io and click download



And download OpenLoco (OpenLoco-vXX.XX-Win32.zip)



Unzip the files to a location of your choosing (example: D:\OpenLoco).
If done correctly the folder should contain these files and folders.

Overriding the original game with OpenLoco and first run

• Right-click the game in the Steam client and select 'Properties...'
  
  
  
• In the 'Launch Options' you type in:
  
  "<Path to>\OpenLoco.exe" %command%
  
  Eample:
  "D:\OpenLoco\OpenLoco.exe" %command%
  
  
  
  
• Close the window and run the game.
  
  
• When done correctly you should get a window and dialog box similar to this
  
  Click OK
  
  
• Select the original game folder ( \Steam\steamapps\common\Locomotion ) and click 'OK'
  
  
  
• If you get this 'Error loading objects' window with nothing in it, then you can safely close it and play the game.
  
  Note: the 'Error loading objects' window only appears when running OpenLoco through Steam with this method.
  
  
• Now you can enjoy playing the game in OpenLoco with Steam overlay

Where are my saves located?

You can find your saves in:

%appdata%\OpenLoco\save

Example: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\OpenLoco\save

Try running 'OpenLoco.exe' outside of Steam and see if anything is different.

the window pops up for a fraction of a second, then the game shuts down. Everything looks how youve described, what would the issue be?
