Metroid Prime Trilogy Controls

Beschreibung
The thumbnail is adapted from this phenomenal artwork[www.deviantart.com] by DeviantArt user Dosiguales. The icons used in the Beam selector and Visor selector are taken directly from the Metroid Prime Trilogy HD Interface texture pack[forums.dolphin-emu.org] by Terg500. The addon's implementation of free-reticle aiming was accomplished thanks to the invaluable assistance of discord user Zaurzo.

This addon mimics the control scheme from the Metroid Prime Trilogy when using the truly outstanding Metroid Prime SWEP by WLKRE. It's entirely client-side, toggleable per-player, and fairly configurable.

Note: This addon doesn't function properly if GMod is launched with the "-tools" launch option set.

Features:
  • All features, except those which state otherwise, are only enabled when the Metroid Prime SWEP's custom HUD is active. This does take the "Keep Visor" setting into account.
  • Trilogy Aiming: Frees the mouse cursor, allowing the player to aim at any point on screen. When the cursor is near the left or right edge, the player will rotate in that direction. When the cursor is near the top or bottom, the view will temporarily pitch up or down.
  • Trilogy Beam and Visor Select: Hold your Interact/Use key (default E) to bring up the Beam Selector, then release to select whichever Beam the reticle is overlapping. Hold the Reload key to bring up the Visor Selector, which behaves the same way but changes the currently equipped Visor. Pressing the button quickly won't activate the Selector, so you can open doors or push buttons without changing your Beam. Beams and Visors will only be available in the selector if they're unlocked.
  • Real Wiimote Support: The mod can be controlled using a real Wiimote and Nunchuk. You must have a DolphinBar. Detailed instructions can be found in the Wiimote section of the toolmenu. A Discussion thread with these instructions will be added at some future time. Wiimote support requires the Touchmote[www.touchmote.net] software, which is only for Windows (the website says it's for Windows 8, but it also supports Windows 10 and probably works fine on Windows 11). When using a Wiimote, you can aim the arm cannon using the IR pointer while enjoying the full precision of the Nunchuk's analog joystick for movement.
  • Analog Fixes: Makes some features of Garry's Mod and the Metroid Prime SWEP play nice with analog-stick movement. Garry's Mod has native controller support, including analog movement, but not all addons or even all features of the base game are designed to use it properly. Metroid Prime Trilogy Controls includes toggleable fixes for these issues. These fixes are always active when enabled, not just when using the Metroid Prime SWEP.

I'm planning on updating it to clean up the code and allow the player to bind the two selectors to other keys, in case you don't want to reuse the Use and Reload keys for this.

Convars and commands (all of these can be controlled from the Spawnlist's toolmenu, there's no need to remember them):
mpfqf_trilogy_aiming_enabled (boolean)
mpfqf_no_trilogy_aim_when_lockon (boolean)
mpfqf_trilogy_aiming_sensitivity (float)
mpfqf_trilogy_aiming_disable_when_lalt (boolean)
mpfqf_fix_power_suit_analog (boolean)
mpfqf_fix_world_clicker_analog (boolean)
mpfqf_trilogy_beamvisor_select (boolean)
mpfqf_trilogy_beamvisor_select_inverted (boolean)
mpfqf_get_touchmote_link (command)

It does that in the Prime Remaster on Switch at least! The little "needles" on it get longer and shorter based on the distance between you and what you're aiming at. It's pretty nifty, especially with gauging the range of the Plasma Beam! And yes, the Remaster was my first exposure to Prime. So good.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback a lot, and that you're enjoying the addon. Currently Trilogy Aim persists in the Morph Ball to accomodate Wiimote aiming, since the camera goes pretty crazy if Trilogy Aim is disabled while using a real Wiimote for mouse movement. I can see the value of adding an option for that though, yeah. I'll see if I can put that in for you soon.
I'd also be interested in making the reticle dynamic like it is in the original games, but I'm not very experienced writing fancy rendering code like that 😅 I've also got a pretty vague understanding of what the reticle even does, TBH - this is the first time I'm hearing that it changes based on target distance, that's news to me.

I feel like being in Morphball should disable the Trilogy Aim -- it's a little hard to turn the camera otherwise. But wow, this is good. If you can have the crosshair replicate the original behavior of narrowing/widening based on distance to the target, you're a real hero.

The maps are linked in the videos' descriptions on YouTube, but here are the links here too, for convenience.

Hello! That was in the help-support forum channel of the /r/gmod Discord server. I went and found the link, here's the thread: https://discord.com/channels/204738543707226112/1162066793687429210/1162806840493609051
