Basic Mode
To start you need to click and drag 5 different planets to the map area.

These can be anywhere you would like but they cannot overlap.

The planets must all be connected via Fracture / Jump Point or a wormhole to do so click on one to bring up Basic Mode.

Right click to create a normal link or shift right click to make a wormhole connection.

The solid line is a Fracture / Jump Point.
The dashed line is a wormhole.
To remove the connection just right click.

If you are making a 1v1 map for example you will need the appropriate amount of starting systems. Click on the planet and choose starting systems. To understand what colony and derelicts are please see "Understanding colony and derelicts" section.
Advance Mode
This works in the same way the basic mode apart from you can choose how many resources spawn in the system.

Please note you cannot edit the resources in a "Starter System"

As you add in more resources icons will appear below the chosen planet.
Please remember the difference between a small and large resources determines how fast it is mined.

Larges resources will appear with a blue box around them where as small resources do not.

You can also customise resources on derelict and colony systems.

In update 1.0.8.193 you are now able to pick what colony system or derelict spawns. Up can have up to 2 derelicts and 1 colony..
Understanding Derelicts / Colony Systems / Shipwrecks / Unknown Ship
Understanding Derelicts

These are abandon building which can be located on the map there is an option to spawn randomly along the top in the editor, in basic mode and in advance mode you can set to a maximum of 2 to spawn.

In basic and advance mode it will display an orange centre circle if it has been turned on.

Normally they will contain bugs.

When capturing they may have loot in there inventory and there may be loot in the station as a crate which you have to return to your HQ or nearest outpost.

Understanding Colony Systems

These are neutral stations which will be guarded by a fleet and have an onboard security force or protesters They are not easy to take and require a CEO to send large force to overcome the defences. Same as derelicts they will contain loot and crates.

If a outpost spawns it will contain an "Enhanced Core" which generates 30 power. These can be removed to bring the power back down to 20 to be moved to a different outpost of your choosing once ingame. The maximum is 1 per a planet.

Understanding Shipwrecks
Shipwrecks cannot be controlled from the map editor and randomly spawn throughout the game.

Understanding the Unknown ship
The unknown ship cannot be told where it spawns this is random each game. The only system the unknown ship will not spawn is the starter systems.

Did you know?

You can have a Derelicts and Colony in the same system? Well you do now!
