Achievement Guide
By Dandy
An easy guide to the achievements in Quest for Infamy!

I've split the achievements up into different categories: General (for achievements you can get any time and with any class), achievements you can get during specific chapters (Prologue/Act I/Act II/ Act III) and for specific classes (Brigand/Rogue/Sorcerer). Note that my organization is slightly different from the in-game achievement list.

Important note on unlocking Steam achievements!
The current Steam version of Quest for Infamy has an issue where even when in-game achievements are triggered they may not trigger the Steam achievement. Fortunately, the developer has been working on v2.0, which is currently in beta state. This beta version triggers achievements (mostly) correctly! You can opt in to the beta by right-clicking on the game in your library and viewing the Properties and changing your version on the "Betas" tab.

I highly recommend that you switch to the v2.0 beta if you are trying to unlock Steam achievements in Quest for Infamy! In the cases where there is an issue with unlocking an achievement in v2.0, I will make a note of it under that achievement.

I started a post on the Technical Discussion forum to catalog the issues I ran into while using the v2.0 beta, so if you run into any snags check out the post so you can see if there is a workaround. If you run into an issue I didn't, please post it in the thread!

This game is at this point a labour of love by a single developer working on it through difficult circumstances, so please be kind and considerate with regards to the bugs you may encounter. (Honestly, you should behave as such for every developer, but especially for a little indie game!)
General Achievements
These achievements can hypothetically completed at any time in the game - I will note if there are any limitations.

Working for the Man
You can do this any time after Tyr opens up and before Act III.

Go to the port of Tyr during the daytime and talk to the old smoking captain about crates. He will offer you some work - accept the offer to get some money (dependent on your class) and this achievement. Note that this will progress the time to evening.

Let There be Light
This is necessary if you intend to explore the swamp at all.
  • Talk to Hobbs near the entrance (day/evening) until he gives you a Glass Jar.
  • Go to the 99-Acre wood and find the giant fallen tree trunk. Climb on top of it and either gather the glowing fungus and put it in the jar, or use the jar on the fungus directly. (Note that the fungus only glows at night!)
  • Go to the clearing in the forest near the farm and use the Glowing Jar on the Fireflies to capture them.
  • Finally, go to the swamp and release the fireflies from the jar.

Simply the Best
Defeat at least one of every kind of random monster you can encounter. The complete list is below. (Credit to Pierzasty for putting this together!)
  • Brute (Barbarian-types, around Volksville)
  • Highwayman (Hunter-types in white armor, around Volksville or South Woods)
  • Rukiti, red (around Volksville)
  • Rukiti, green (Swamp)
  • Jaguar (Grasslands during the day)
  • Wolf (Grasslands at night)
  • Giant Snake (Swamp)
  • Giant Spider (Dwarf Mines or 99 Acre Wood)
  • Brown Bear (99 Acre Wood)
  • Dwarf (Dwarf Mine or South Woods)
  • Wight (Graveyard and randomly in other locations at night)
  • Skeleton (Dwarf Mines, Graveyard and other locations at night)
  • Spectre (Dwarf Mines and randomly in other locations at night)
  • Morroi Flagellant (Act III only)
  • Guardsman, green (Act III only)
  • Guardsman, red (Act III only)
Note that the Act III-only enemies will replace other monsters for random encounters, so make sure to kill at least one of all the other types before Act III.

Perfect!
Go to Hermit Homestead and talk to the archer there in the evening or night to play the archery game. (It's 25 bly a game, but you get 50 bly if you score more than 325 points.) You need to hit the bullseye with all 5 arrows to get the achievement. (Hint: turn the game speed down to make the movement of the cursor a little more manageable.)

Staked Your Claim
Purchase (or steal) the ceremonial dagger from the Blacksmith and then use it on Voleris, who is usually out front of the gates of Tyr. (Do this before Act III.)

Pitched Your Tent
Purchase (or steal) the tent from the General Store. Find a suitable location (a field which has no visible road - there's one such screen to the south of the ruined Hummel home) and open up the sundial (CTRL+T) and choose to sleep.

Pisshead
After defeating the beast and cutting off it's head in the Prologue, use the "attack" cursor on its corpse again to desecrate the body. (This step must be done during the Prologue!)

Later, travel to the graveyard and find the ruined house inside. Use the "hand" cursor on the carpet to desecrate that, too.

Thankfully There's a Healer Nearby
You will probably get this one without trying! If you run out of HP in a battle you will wake up the next morning in Jarrod's apothecary. He'll take 10 bly and you'll get this achievement.
(There are some circumstances where instead of this, you will simply get a game over - notably, boss fights, while in the Dwarf Mine, and for most of the fights in Act III. If you run out of HP in the prologue you will not die, but you will wake up where you fell instead of at the apothecary.)

Collector of Useless Crap
Buy or steal the Diamond Tipped Crowbar from the general store and the Holy Symbol from the apothecary. (The crowbar can do anything the regular crowbar can do, but is just really expensive as opposed to being free. You can show the head librarian the Holy Symbol which does... nothing.)

Important note! Unlike every other achievement, while I could unlock the in-game version achievement using v2.0, it did not trigger the Steam achievement. I was able to unlock it both in-game and for Steam in the v1.1 version of the game, though.

You Maxed Out
This is the grindiest achievement in the game! Raise the following stats to 100:
  • Weapon % to Hit
  • Stabbing
  • Slashing
  • Hacking
  • Blocking
You can do this with any class, but I recommend the Brigand for several reasons. You will be able to use the training dummy in the hideout to raise each of the first 3 stats by 1 point every day. (It doesn't seem like much, but Weapon % to Hit raises pretty slowly and in the early game 4 free points is nothing to sneeze at.) You'll also have the most HP of any class, which is good because you will be doing a lot of fighting.

The best place to grind is the Dwarf Mine - just keep running up and down the path from the entrance and you'll encounter lots of monsters. If you are playing Brigand, it's easiest just to keep blocking (you gain 3HP on a successful block, which will help you keep grinding) until you can unleash your special attack (which can level up any of the 4 attack-related stats). If you've maxed out your other stats and have only one or two attack stats to work on you can just spam that attack, but have some potions to recover health if you're not going to be blocking as much.

One other thing to note is that the undead enemies (Spectres and Skeletons) take minimal damage from Stabbing attacks, but that also means you can spam them many times before they die and potentially raise it by multiple points in one battle.

Remember you can turn the battle difficulty down in the options to make the grinding easier!

You Got Coned
Go to either the Pub in Volksville or the bar in Tyr and keep buying drinks until you pass out. (Like real life, you can drink rum instead of beer to pass out more quickly)
Prologue
Sir Chat-A-Lot
Unmissable (almost!)
When you start a new game, you will arrive at Volksville. You need to talk to all of the important townspeople to progress the story. This includes:
  • Udo (outside the gate, exhaust all dialogue options)
  • Jan (just inside the gate)
  • The innkeeper, his daughter and the explorer (Inn)
  • Kit and Kurdt (Pub)
  • Tobacconist
  • Shopkeepers (General Store)
  • Jarrod (in the garden by the Apothecary)
  • Prospero (in the house with the glowing star)
  • Ian (playing dice in the yard)

Clock Watcher
This is your alternative to the previous achievement. Instead of talking to anybody, just wait where you start until the story progresses on its own. (At some point Roehm will comment that he should head to the square soon, click to dismiss that message and keep waiting.) This will take about 15 minutes.

Beast Master
Unmissable
No matter which path you choose, your mentor will task you with killing The Beast. Wander around the woods north of town until they ambush you!
Act I
He Deserved It & Toast of the Town
These achievements are unmissable and mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.

At the end of the first day of Act I you will attend a magic show, which will result in you fighting Gorth. You can either kill him (He Deserved It) or spare him (Toast of the Town). The choice has little impact, so choose whichever you prefer (though killing him nets you more infamy).

Over an Apple?
There is a man picking apples from a tree a few screens to the right of Volksville. Attack him to get this achievement.

Good Old Stories
In the evening when Japsworth is at the Pub, talk to him and keep purchasing him whiskey until he can't drink anymore. (This will take 4 whiskeys, for a total of 20 bly. You need to buy him the first three to progress the story, the fourth is optional and nets you this achievement.)

Reading is Fundamental
After getting Japsworth's story and talking to Kayanna outside the pub, travel to Tyr the next day and go to the library. Talk to Gayreth about the Killingtons to earn this achievement.

Puzzles are Hard!
Solve the peg solitaire puzzle in the well by the apple farm (once you have Kaylanna's necklace). You can find a book with a solution to the puzzle by asking Gayreth at the Tyr library about "Puzzles". Use the solution in the book to solve the puzzle. (You can also use the book directly on the puzzle to solve it automatically, but that will not get you this achievement.)

Reuniting the Seal
Unmissable
Once you collect the 4 parts of the Killington seal, combine any one part with any other part to complete the seal.

Act 1
Unmissable
Finish Act I!
Act II
Not Easy Being Green
In Act II Prospero will offer you a quest to defeat a necromancer in the Dwarf Mine.
  • Find the Dwarf Mine in the South Woods
  • Find the room with the large chasm and cross it to the necromancer's chamber
  • Find the Kraken in the Dwarf Mine and defeat it to collect it's lungs (See: Kraken Good Times)
  • Use a dagger or throwing knife (from the blacksmith) on the head outside of Volksville to collect it's brain. (You'll need a feed sack from the farm to transport it.)
  • Give both the brain and lungs to the necromancer.

Kraken Good Times
You will need to do this as part of completing the necromancer quest.
  • Take the harpoon from the port in Tyr
  • Find the Kraken's room in the Dwarf Mine
  • Let the Kraken pick you up, then use the harpoon on it

You Look Like a Dwarf
When exploring the Dwarf Mines, find the loot in each supply barrel and mining cart. (Only some mining carts have any items, all supply barrels have something, and no water barrels or sacks have any loot). I recommend using the map available in another guide on Steam to help navigate through the tunnels and find the loot (for this and the other achievements in the mine!)

Paying for Information & Paying with Food
These achievements are unmissable and mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.
When you are given the Moonshiner quest, you will encounter a hunter in the South Woods who can give you information on their location. You can offer him either 50 blys or a skinned rabbit (found hanging in Hermit Homestead) for the information - either one will net you the respective achievement.

He Dropped the Moonshine!
When you encounter the Moonshiner's assistant you have the option to shake him, rough him up or kill him. Choose the third option for this achievement.

Stop Shaking Me & Break, Rattle, and Roll
These achievements are unmissable and mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.
When you encounter the Moonshiner, you can choose to rough him up, damage his equipment, or discuss payment. Choose the first or second option to get the respective achievement.

A Regular Wilberforce
Unmissable
You will be given the quest to take out the slaver in Tyr. Sneak into his residence and kill him. (Hint: look through each doorway before you enter!)

Green is the New White & Sewer Rat
These achievements are unmissable and mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.
Your final quest for Act II is to kill the Morroi leader. You can get to him one of two ways:
  • Dye a white robe green, solve the rune puzzle near where you met Kaylanna, wear the robe, and then correctly answer the questions at the gate.
  • Enter the swamp, open the sewer grate with the crowbar, and defeat the gelatinous cube inside.

What's his Name Again?
Unmissable
You will get this by defeating the Morroi leader.

Act 2
Unmissable
Finish Act II!
Act III
Jan Loves You
Talk Jan into helping you. Find him in the Sheriff's office and choose the following dialogue options:
  • "Can’t we just talk first Jan?"
  • "Because Rayford is trying to take over Tyr."
  • "Jan, I need your help."

A Paladin Loves You
Enter the dungeon in the Sheriff's office and free the prisoners within. You can do this by using the key found on Rayford's desk or by casting Mystical Lockpick if you are a sorcerer.

Smoked!
Gather some pond scum from the ruined fountain on the remains of the Killington estate. Give it to Jarrod at the Apothecary and he will give you green smoke bombs. Use the bombs on the Morroi guards outside of Tyr.

An Arrow Through Your Heart
Once inside Tyr go the the barracks and deal with the guards outside to free the Arrows. (If you convinced Jan to help you, he will deal with the guards for you.)

Friends in High Places
Go to the Law chambers and defeat the guard outside to free the city councillors.

That Bastard Deserved Worse! & Don't Mess With a Fat Man
These achievements are unmissable and mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.
After you defeat Rayford, choose to kill him yourself or to spare him to earn the respective achievement.

Act 3
Unmissable
Finish Act III!
Brigand
Basher
Choose Kurdt as your mentor, beat him at the drinking game, and then complete the quest he gives you.

Horse Lover
On Day 1 Kurdt will ask you to recapture an escaped horse. You can find it in a random location around Volksville or in the forest to the north. You will need the following:
  • An apple (from the apple vendor or the apple farm) or a carrot (from the general store)
  • A saddle (find a hammer in the shack by the small bridge and trade it to the farrier by the town gate for one)
  • A bridle (find one in the barn of the farm)
When you find the horse, first give it an apple/carrot and then place the saddle/bridle on it to finish the quest.

You Picked... Easy Way & You Picked... Hard Way
These achievements are mutually exclusive - you will need to start a new game or reload a save if you want to get both.
The second job Kurdt will offer you is a caravan robbery. He gives you two options on how to do so:
  • Fight the guard (the "easy way")
  • Disconnect the cart from their horse and then attach it to your horse (the "hard way")
Doing either approach will net you the appropriate achievement.

I Know the Way
The final job Kurdt will offer you is to escort a merchant to their destination. Meet the merchant in Tyr, near the docks, and then take the most direct route to the mountain pass east of Volksville. Along the way you will fight 3 highwaymen (two on their own along the road, and two at the mountain pass one after the other.) Be ready for those fights, since you won't be able to rest while carrying out the quest.
Rogue
You Sneaky Bastard
Choose Ian as your mentor, play 10 rounds of craps with him, and then complete the quest he gives you.

You Found It
On the second day of Act I, Ian will give you a quest to find his friends. Two ways to do this:
  • Go to the Graveyard, enter the decrepit house, go to the chapel and use the pulpit door. You will need to click on the tips of the cross in the right order (Top, Right, Left, Bottom) to open the door. Once inside, use the door and answer "lemondrop billygoat" when prompted.
  • Discuss "lemondrop billygoat" with O'Burr, then buy the map for 100 blys. Use the map on yourself and then exit the tunnels through the bottom of the screen.

The Great Unpicker
While attempting to pick the lock of either the Bank door or the Mayor of Tyr's front door you will have to complete a mini-game. The object of the game is to get all of the pins into the top position at the same time. The easiest way to do this is to start at the right end and quickly double-click each of the pins to push them to the top. You may have to keep looping through them to push the earlier pins back up if they fall. If you're having trouble, try lowering the game speed.

Blackbird No Longer Singing
Steal the bird from the Mayor of Tyr's house. This is a quest given to you by Red during Act II.
  • At night, go to the mayor's house and pick the lock on the front door. (See: The Great Unpicker)
  • Use oil on the statue of the woman, then use the statue to push it under the window. Use it once more to climb up it into the next room.
  • Sneak over to the cloth on the far side of the balcony and pick it up. (Go around the table to avoid getting too close to the tiger - if you wake him up you can give him some meat to distract him)
  • Sneak back to the bird cage. Use the sleeping powder Red gave you and then the cloth to steal the bird.

Expert Thief
Break into each of the lootable houses in Volksville. The houses are:
  • The fisherman's house by the river outside of Volksville (Daytime only)
  • The leftmost house near the Bank (Nighttime only, see the note below)
  • The house by the blacksmith (Make sure you are sneaking, don't try to pick the lock until the smith is looking away.)
  • Rayford's house (only during Act II, see the note below)

Important note! I had some issues trying to get this achievement, and to be honest I'm not sure why. For whatever reason I was only able to trigger this achievement (in-game and on Steam) in v1.1. Here are my observations:
  • In the v2.0 beta, you cannot exit the house by the bank through the way you came in because the exit zone is not in a clickable area on-screen. You can exit by using the map on yourself to go to the tunnels, but I do not know if that counts as breaking in or not.
  • In either version you can actually break into Rayford's house in Act I. Doing it before Act II may invalidate the achievement.

This is how I ended up unlocking the achievement: on v1.1 I broke into the first 3 houses in Act I (exiting through the way I came in each time). Then I did not break into Rayford's house until I had finished the Slaver quest in Act II.
Sorcerer
Hocus Pocus
Choose Prospero as your mentor, win his card game, and then complete the quest he gives you.

That's a lot of stuff
During Act I Prospero will offer to teach you various spells if you find him a related item. Learn all the spells to get this achievement.
  • Ice Shards: fill the bottle he gives you with water from the waterfall in the woods to the north, stagnant water from the fountain at the Killington estate, and with water from the fishing lake near Volksville.
  • Nature's Blessing: Find a stick in a dead-end in the forest beside the river and use it on a beehive in the same screen to capture a bee. Take a water lily from the stagnant fountain at the Killington Estate.
  • Take Inanimate Object: Take a smooth rock from the pile of stones near the bridge with the canoes.
  • Plague Carrier: Take a skinned rabbit from the Hermit Homestead.
  • Mystical Lockpick: Go to the cabin east of Volksville by the river and take the key from under the mat.
  • Float on a Cloud: Collect an owl feather. (See: Burn Baby Burn)
  • Windstorm: Use a crowbar on the angel statue in the Graveyard and take the wings from the ground.

Burn Baby Burn
During Act I Prospero will ask you to procure several items for him to teach you various spells. (See: That's a lot of stuff). For "something that usually floats", you can collect an owl feather by finding the large tree with a swing attached to it. If you set it on fire using your magic at night, you will unlock the achievement and receive the feather.

Poor Paw
During your prologue quest you'll need to use your sword to drain the head out front of Volksville. Later, when you are doing the necromancer quest (see: Not Easy Being Green), you will need to collect a brain. Once you have done both, you will get this achievement.

Pretty Good Sorcerer & Kick-Ass Sorceror
Both of these are acquired by levelling up your Mystical Ability to 50 and 80 respectively. Using spells in any context can raise this stat, but I found the fastest way was to grind battles in the Dwarf Mines.

My battle strategy was: First cast Plague, then keep blocking until your magic is ready again. (Prospero sells bracers which speed that up!) Then keep alternating between casting Fire (for living enemies), Ice Shards (for undead enemies) or Nature's Blessing (if you are running low on HP) and blocking until your next spell is ready.

Remember you can turn the battle difficulty down in the options to make the grinding easier!

Addendum
Thank you for using this guide! I've benefited from the work of many others in the course of my achievement hunting, so I thought I could at least compile that information here for my fellow hunters.

If you find anything incorrect, have useful information, or want to ask a question please leave a comment!

Thank you for sharing @R01f!

I got the achievement in a strange way. Firstly I purchased the tent and travelled to Hermit Homestead. Afterwards I went into the settings and changed the dialogue to voice only. Then I waited till night and slept. Somehow both the ingame and steam achievement unlocked. So if somebody else has a similar problem, this is my solution.:GlassesRoehm:

I also wasn't able to find anyone else with the same problem online
Obi-Wan-Mewnobi Mar 31, 2024 @ 10:57am
Yes, I am able to sleep, but nothing unlocks afterwards.

It's interesting it doesn't work in 2.0, because it is explicitly mentioned as a fixed achievement in the patch notes. I wonder if something changed?
Dandy  [author] Mar 31, 2024 @ 9:42am
@R01f You're able to use the tent to sleep but the achievement doesn't unlock, is that correct?
Obi-Wan-Mewnobi Mar 31, 2024 @ 6:45am
"Pitched Your Tent" doesn´t seem to unlock for me ingame and on Steam for both versions.
