Welcome to the Guide!
Hey Hellsweepers!

If you want a bit more than just swinging your sword, this guide will lead you through some more complex gameplay controls and mechanics in Hellsweeper VR!

We will continue to update this guide over the upcoming weeks. Bookmark this guide if you’d like to keep track of more tips and tricks.

Before diving straight into gameplay, let’s look at some Option settings Hellsweeper VR offers in order to increase your comfort level.
Adjusting your Settings
Before beginning your sweep, opening the menu or checking the East side of the Hall allows you to open up a plethora of settings under Options. This is highly recommended.

Some important options include:
  • Sticky Grip: You can have sticky grip adjusted to Weapons only, all objects or completely disabled.
  • 180 Snap Turn: You can disable or enable this option.
  • Rotation: Rotating with your desired stick is available in Free Rotate or brief black fades with 45 or 90 degree settings.
  • Locomotion: You can enable locomotion to follow either your thumbstick or your camera, or completely disable it.
  • Key Bindings: You can adjust each button on your controller to do various actions, like kicking or activating Hell Time.

Reloading Guns
There are two ways to reload your gun: Manual and Automatic.

AUTOMATIC RELOAD:
Flicking your hand to your side reloads the gun automatically - but no damage buff is given.

MANUAL RELOAD:
Manual reload gives a damage boost but takes more steps to complete.

Step 1: Summon bullets with your offhand (the hand not holding the gun).
Step 2: To do this, flick the controller downwards while holding down the trigger.
Step 3: Bring the bullets to the circular marker on your gun to reload.

Your gun will glow to indicate that you’ve successfully manually reloaded your gun and activated a damage buff. You can reload the gun before it’s empty to stack the damage buff. However, the buff ends once the magazine is empty.

This manual reload applies to all firearms available in the game, so go ahead and try to get a one-shot Shotgun!
Flamethrower, Ice Shards & Black Hole
There are 3 main elements available in Hellsweeper VR: Fire, Frost and Volt. Each element performs something different with the following motion:

Step 1: Summon an elemental ball in either hand by holding down grip and flicking the controller to the direction the element was equipped. [Either upwards, downwards, outwards or towards you].
Step 2: With the triggers held down and an elemental ball in your hand, extend your arm forward, palms out as if pushing against a wall.

Fire will give a Flamethrower, Frost will give Ice Shards and Volt will create a Black Hole.

If you have the Unarmed skill, you can also press the thumbstick when the elemental balls are in your hands. See what happens!
Fire Vortex, Blizzard Storm and Lightning Storm (And More!)
Players must attain at least Mastery Level 2 on their element to unlock the ability to combine elements. Verify your mastery level through the in-game menu or HUD.

Step 1: Summon your chosen elements into both hands.
Step 2: Swiftly bring your hands together, colliding the elements with one another.
Step 3: During the spell, push both palms outwards and an arrow indicator will appear. When this appears, hold down both triggers to perform the final spell..

The resulting combination may offer new abilities, attacks, or effects, depending on the elements mixed.
Experiment with various element combinations to discover unique outcomes and enhance your gameplay strategy.
Ranged Sword Attack - Bladewave
Players must attain at least Mastery Level 2 on their sword skill to unlock the ability to combine elements. Verify your mastery level through the in-game menu or HUD.

Step 1: With the sword in hand, hold down the trigger.
Step 2: The markings on the sword should begin to glow.
Step 3: As the markings glow, swing the sword at your target and release the trigger mid-swing, NOT at the end of the swing.

While it’s not a bladewave, the axe has a similar move that works with the same motion. Give it a try!
Other Fun Skill Tidbits
Hellsweeper VR won’t give you every answer, but here are some little things that would help you out when it comes to combat!
  • Melee attacks speed up health regeneration. Any melee attack works.
  • Melee weapons are a bit more durable than firearms - a sword might work better as a shield than your gun.
  • Infusing weapons with Frost magic will restore some of its durability.
  • Players can shoot a weapon with a gun like the Pistol, causing the weapon to jump into the air.
  • Smaller enemies like Minions are more than just punching bags - they can be surfboards! You can do this simply by jumping and landing directly on top of the enemy while crouching.
  • If you have a bow and different guns in your loadouts, they can be used as arrows. P.S Something else that buzzes can also be used as an arrow. Just saying.

Boss Fights
In Hell, there are three main bosses you can possibly go up against during your sweep. They’re much larger, bigger, and have their own set of moves that you’ll have to get through.

Tips are marked as SPOILERS, so unhide them when you wish.
Deceit

Deceit is a moving, floating house who defends its own home. Its key ability is its shield: forcing the player to get through it via various means.

Deceit specializes in both aerial and ground control, ensuring players to stay on their toes and keep their wits. From floating bird-cage lasers and magic area-of-effect attacks, Deceit acts like a mage who likes to tussle from a distance.

Tips to Defeating Deceit

Deceit’s main form of defeat is taking down its shields, allowing you to punch through its primary defense and lay waste. Here are some ways to do so:

> Summoning rocks and throwing them.
> Alternatively, you can shoot or damage its arms and then use it to shatter the shield.
> You can throw a lot of things at it as well, including the corpses sprawled on the battlefield.
> Concussive Blast also shatters the shield.

Deceit can spawn puppets and throw them at you.

Deceit has several AOE attacks, so you have to be on the move often to avoid them.

Savagery

Savagery is a furious fist fighter who relies on his rage to hurl its punches at you.

He goes into heavy bursts of attacks in hopes to finish you off swiftly with melee combos when threatened. It also has occasional ranged attacks, hurling rocks at the player should they prefer keeping their distances. Lastly, like Deceit, Savagery has the ability to teleport

Tips to Defeating Savagery

Savagery has the ability to dodge ranged attacks, including gunfire and arrows.

- At half health, Savagery will enrage and for the next few seconds, it will move very quickly and take reduced damage.

- Blocking is the most effective way to negate Savagery’s speed and onslaught. Melee weapons like swords and axes last longer.

- After Savagery’s enraged state ends, it becomes exhausted. That is your opening.

Corruption

Corruption might not appear threatening due to how little it moves, but its massive size can become overwhelming to those who dare oppose it.

Corruption is unique in a way that it opts to stay in a single spot and try to take the player down through sheer raw power. It keeps a blend of both magic and physical prowess, able to summon projectives and push you away with its slamming move.

Tips to Defeating Corruption

While Corruption is down, you are open to destroy the rings on its arms. If you fail to do so, Corruption regenerates health to a certain amount.

Continuous attacks on Corruption will bring it down. When it is down, attack the rings while melee attacks or guns in this order:
> Left Arm
> Right Arm
> Neck

In addition, it will create 2 AOE attacks:
> The red AOE will damage any players close to Corruption, so stay away.
> The purple AOE will damage any players away from Corruption, so stay close to Corruption.
Mastery, Rank and Traits
Hellsweeper VR’s meta progression assures that no matter how hard you fall, you can always come right back up.

The following are some of the different areas by which you can progress through multiple victories or failures:
Mastery
Mastery is the number of times you select the same skill during a run. For example, selecting the Sword Skill 3 times brings your Sword Mastery Level to 3.

Mastery 1 unlocks the ability to conjure your skill, and upgrading it unlocks other features. During a run, each selected skill starts at Mastery Level 1. At Mastery Level 2, your skill will unlock a specific additional action (eg. Bladewave for the Sword).

When your skill hits Mastery Level 3 and above, each Mastery Level offers a trait slot for your skill.

Traits
Traits can be attached to your weapons, giving them different stats, effects and additional gameplay properties. Different traits can be combined together to create a forged trait.

There are a multitude of traits that can appear each time to do a run. Or you can craft your own build and go into Sandbox mode with whatever you came up with!

Examples of Traits:

As mentioned above, Hellsweeper VR offers various traits that you can pick from during your run. For example, the table listed below gives examples of what your Pistol can be offered for that extra edge.

Trait
Description
Trick Shot
Ricochet bullets will ricochet an additional time
Laser Sights
Attach a laser sight to the gun
Your Name
Fire an additional homing bullet
Barrel Extension
Increase the length of the gun barrel. Increase damage by 50%
C-Clip
Increase reload speed by 10% but reduce magazine size by 15%
Always Noon
Increases damage of fanning the Pistol and costs 1 bullet.
Add Ape Grip Blessing
All one-handed attacks becomes two-handed attacks.

There are much, much more traits available in the game that are also given to melee weapons, bare fists and even your passive abilities like levitation.

Do go in the game and check them out!

Rank
Rank is the permanent progression of your skills. To rank up, you have to do so in Hall at the West most section. Enter the circle in front of the Sword totem to bring up the loadout menu.

Each time your skill ranks up, there are improvements made to it. These are called “Augments”.

Using certain skills in roguelike raises their rank XP. When your rank XP is capped, you can increase your skill rank with Souls in the Hall. Ranking up your skills will unlock more traits in your subsequent runs. You can also add permanent upgrades to your skills.

One example is Augmenting the Levitation Skill. Without an Augment, Levitation only lifts 1 object. But with an Augment, that number is increased to 2.

Another example is the Mace. Before augmenting, the Mace’s grapple has a set length. Upon applying an Augment, the grapple’s length extends.

The maximum Rank that can be gained depends on the weapon type.

Again, yet another person who does nothing to actually describe forging. Or how it is really done. Guide, 2, out of five stars rating.

WARNING: BLADEWAVE AND AXE GLAIVE ONLY FIRE IF YOU SWING SIDEWAYS. Also if you have the Axe in single-blade mode (or the perk that makes both sides super-blades) you have to swing with BOTH hands for Axe glaive.

Suggestion: put this on the wiki
Dr.Mustard 2024 年 3 月 12 日 下午 5:01
could you add info for the super secret weapon
Ze-Dude 2024 年 2 月 26 日 上午 11:45
Add infusions and laser magic, please.
Fun fact: you can slam an element on your friend to infuse their weapon or flat out combine forces and Flame Vortex together.

Does anyone know the recipe for the last forged ability for fire?

something that i found out while using the blade wave attack is the timing of releasing trigger plays a lot in if the attack will work, as well you can use bullet time to help you with getting the blade wave to work as well.

I figured out that the wave works better if you slash really slowly.

Now I just don't know how to rank up the skills to unlock new traits.

i got better results by reversing my grip (double click trigger). it is still not very accurate but better.
retro440 2023 年 10 月 12 日 上午 3:37
I cannot for the life of me pull off a consistent blade wave, might be an index thing?
