These are actually binary ASCII! Black squares are 0 and white squares are 1. The ordering is very strange, it goes:

2 1 3
4 5
6 8 7

The different glyphs then come out to be the binary ASCII for capital letters. I'm using this to try and solve some of the partially destroyed inscriptions. I've narrowed down some of the options, but no joy yet.
(I don't have this game, I'm being a man-in-the-chair for a friend who is)

(very late game spoiler) the translation for the dev room brand is "ASYSTEMERASEUREGAME" or with spaces, "A SYSTEM ERASEURE GAME"

Dongyell, I think the primary "purpose" of this is basically same as was with Al Bhedo "alphabet" in Final Fantasy X, where, initially, you don't know the language they're speaking, and only gradually "opening" it up letter-by-letter sentence-by-sentence when you find "dictionaries" in that game, but for a person who played the game before, who recorded each "letter" and memorized the sentences, you can pretty much fully understand what an Al Bhedo character is saying in FF X, without necessity to search for/obtain any dictionaries again (many of which are a total pain in the a). Even though there' an "automatic translation" in Void, it seems you can still do it even without going Void, by just knowing the alphabet and language beforehand, deciphering it on-the-fly.

very late game spoilers

I don't think Lily's/dev room brand from the Gray true end is auto translated, but it does show you the letter tiles. The alphabet could be used to manually translate those

in the release trailer at 0:27 there is a sentence using these murals that says "what is your wish" backwards https://imgur.com/a/Bxj8xku

Plus it lets you make your own encoded stuff to be a bother to other people :plagueknight:

I think it's mostly just for interest, although I'm not super deep into the game's secrets myself. It can help to put the text on the broken murals in order though.

What is the point of the lexicon when the void memory burden decodes the text for you automatically? Are there puzzles/hints in the game that aren't translated automatically for you?
