Choose Your Fighter

Beskrivelse
Choose Your Fighter!

Choose Your Fighter allows you to customize your character's model before and throughout a game.

Character model is purely cosmetic and has no impact on the game itself. You can find the character model selection menu in the "character creation" window.

Updates:
  • (v1.1.0) The "tile selection" menu option now appears in the same window as "character creation" (previously you had to use a different window to pick your tile).
  • (v0.9.0) The Magic Mirror item has been turned into its own mod! If you want an item that will allow you to change your character's appearance on-demand, check out the Magic Mirror mod.

Features:
  • Choose the tile for your character from all of the tiles used by the various castes, callings, and presets available during character creation. Or, change your character's appearance at your local gutsmonger.
  • Choose a model from an existing creature or item to use for your player. Play as a crab! A chair! A sentient plasma grenade!
  • Extendable with mods to play with new character models.

Expansions for Choose Your Fighter

Several members of the Caves of Qud community have written mods to extend the character models available in Choose Your Fighter:

(Let me know if you'd like to have your mod added to this list!)

Once you've downloaded one of these mods, you can use them by choosing "Expansions" in the tile selection menu.

Check out the code repository for this mod if you'd like to add your own tiles for Choose Your Fighter: https://gitlab.com/kernelmethod/qudmods/-/tree/main/ChooseYourFighter

Alternatively, ping me @kernelmethod on the Caves of Qud Discord.

Using new tiles for characters

If you want your character to be modeled off of an existing creature or item from the game, you can use the "Choose tile from blueprint" option in the tile selection menu, and then enter the ID of an existing creature or item. For instance:

  • Enter "Great Magma Crab" to play as a Great Magma Crab.
  • Enter "Snapjaw Brute 0" to play as a snapjaw brute.

Refer to the wiki to find the ID of the creature or item you're looking for: https://wiki.cavesofqud.com

It's also possible to mod in new character tiles into the game; see the "Expansions for Choose Your Fighter" section for more details.

Wishes

This mod adds the following wishes to the game:

  • chooseyourfighter:change -- pops open the tile change menu for the player.
  • chooseyourfighter:hflip -- flip the player's tile horizontally.

I discovered the issue. The game doesn't enable it by default like other mods you have to authorize it or something.

do you have mods enabled in your options menu?

It did not show up in character creation and when using the wish it just gave me a quest.

You can use it in character creation in the “customize character” window. Select the “tile” option.

If you want to use it in a game that’s already started, you either need to talk to a gutsmonger or use a wish.

Yah, I have got it with other mods as well, only on game exit, so prob not a big deal

The crash itself is more or less benign as far as I can tell, although the previous report about the game crashing during world generation is cause for concern. If anybody else encounters a crash at any point other than exiting the game please let me know.

I've traced this down to an issue in the base game (I suspect in Unity itself although I'm not really in a position to make that determination). I've sent a bug report to the devs about it:

https://bitbucket.org/bbucklew/cavesofqud-public-issue-tracker/issues/13473/game-consistently-crashes-with-minimal

From my investigations and discussions with other mod devs I suspect that most Harmony mods (i.e. mods that have a "HARMONY PATCHES" tag in the mod management window) will cause these kinds of crashes on Windows.

Also getting a crash to desktop on game exit, tried to fix it with verifying etc, same steps as others in the comments, nothing works. Disabling for now.
