Tier Heavy

Tier 5, also known as Heavy weapons, are the most powerful and devastating firearms available in World War Z. These heavy-duty weapons offer exceptional firepower, massive ammunition capacity, and overwhelming destructive force. Tier 5 weapons include heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, and other high-impact armaments. They are indispensable for confronting large-scale assaults and hordes of zombies. Using heavy weapons is almost necessary for dealing with the hundreds of zekes your team will encounter. They also help turn the tides when used against enemy survivors. When choosing Tier 5 (Heavy) weapons, carefully consider your combat strategy and the magnitude of the threat, as each of these weapons possesses unique capabilities that can make the difference between life and death.

Heavy Weapons

Payload Rifle (BF25)

  • The Payload Rifle, also known as the BF25, is an anti-materiel rifle in World War Z that fires explosive rounds upon impact. This formidable weapon is designed to take out multiple enemies with a single shot, making it a devastating choice on the battlefield.

  • Unlike the Hailstorm MGL, the grenades fired from the Payload Rifle explode upon impact rather than bouncing off, and they boast a longer effective range. This unique feature provides additional versatility and effectiveness when dealing with enemy hordes and special infected.

RPG Launcher (RPG L4)

  • The RPG Launcher, also known as the RPGL4, is a heavy weapon featured in World War Z.

  • The RPG, or RPGL4, is a portable one-shot anti-tank rocket launcher with a single missile capacity. This missile is extremely powerful and can even kill the player if fired at close range. Unlike other weapons, the RPG Launcher requires manual loading from the rear before it can be fired. This extra step adds a layer of strategy and planning when utilizing this heavy weapon on the battlefield.

Machinegun (MAG5)

  • The Heavy Machine Gun, known as the MAG5, is a mobile variant of the stationary "50cal" turret machine gun classified as a defense weapon. It fires 100 explosive rounds, with the potential to increase the round count through certain class skills. This heavy machine gun is capable of mowing down dozens of zombies within seconds, making it a formidable choice for holding off hordes. However, it's important to note that the weapon can overheat, requiring the user to pause between salvos to prevent it from becoming ineffective.

MGL (Hailstorm MGL)

  • The MGL, also referred to as the Hailstorm MGL, is a heavy weapon designed to fire grenades similar to those used by the Thumper GL or the Frag Grenades wielded by the Gunslinger class. By default, it has a maximum ammo capacity of 8 unless a specific perk is utilized to increase this limit. Unlike the Thumper GL and Frag Grenades, the MGL's grenades don't explode on contact. Instead, they bounce for a moment before detonating upon hitting the ground. In Co-op Campaign, the Hellraiser class begins with access to this weapon.

Heavy Assault Shotgun (Taiga-12)

  • The Heavy Assault Shotgun, also known as the Taiga-12, is a heavy weapon available in World War Z. This modified version of the Tier 3 Assault Shotgun packs more punch with higher damage and an impressive 50-round drum magazine. It excels at close-range combat but cannot be silenced. Interestingly, it comes equipped with a visible muzzle brake, which might seem unusual since it's not intended for medium or long-range engagements, and the game automatically mitigates recoil for the player.

Chainsaw (SchreiTech Forrest Warrior)

  • The Chainsaw is the sole melee weapon available for pick-up in the game. Its effectiveness is limited to close-range combat, but it can clear multiple enemies with a single swing. The Chainsaw likely operates on gasoline, as its damage and the number of swings or charges are finite. However, the capacity can be increased with certain class skills.

  • You can achieve a continuous and relatively quick swing of the Chainsaw by zooming in with the mini zoom (right-click on PC). When mini-zooming without swinging, it creates a small but incredibly potent hitbox in front, where the blade is as it revs up.

  • Interestingly, most survivors still refer to the Chainsaw running out of gas as being "out of ammo," a quirk shared with the Flamethrower.

Flamethrower (Flamethrower)

  • The Flamethrower is classified as a heavy weapon in the game.

  • This fearsome weapon emits a continuous stream of intense flames that incinerate zekes. However, its effective range is quite short, making it ideal for close-quarters engagements. The searing heat of the Flamethrower can be a devastating force in the right hands, turning hordes of undead into ashes.

Multi-Shot Rocket Launcher (MRL202 Commando)

  • The Multi-Shot Rocket Launcher, known as the MRL202 Commando, is a formidable heavy weapon in World War Z.

  • This weapon lives up to its name by unleashing multiple rockets in a single barrage. While it can deal devastating damage to both zekes and structures, it's important to exercise caution, as the rockets can also harm you and your teammates. Managing this weapon effectively requires a keen sense of timing and positioning. The Commando is a formidable addition to your arsenal when faced with swarms of undead or fortified enemy positions.
