INSPIRED: A Spoiler-Heavy Guide for Meeting Background Inspirations

The Oxford English Dictionary defines Roleplaying to be the “changing of one’s behavior to fulfill a social role.” The strong and pure-of-heart among us dictate the social role our characters shall play in the story of Baldur’s Gate 3, using empathy and careful consideration to determine the choices their characters shall make and the path carved out across Larian’s vivid canvas. They accept the positive or negative consequences of these actions and let them inform future choices as their characters reflect on what they’ve done. Their character Backgrounds are not a statistic, but an integrated portion of an entire person.


I am not strong or pure-of-heart.

When I see the Inspiration mechanic with its discrete background goals, I become hypnotized by my achievement-hunting lizard brain. The option, the desire to view every recorded inspirational event for every character and companion seizes control, having me pilot the Origins towards the fulfillment of predetermined goals at the expense of their party members' approval or safety. I rationalize their decision making process, I love to see how the other companions react to these choices. But my Inspiration is these Inspirations.

I don’t even really spend the Inspiration Points on rerolls either.

This guide is for people who are as obsessive as I am, or perhaps slightly less so. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

This is absolutely a work-in-progress, and I welcome corrections and suggestions in the comments. Will update as my schedule allows.

Actless Inspirations
Many of the Inspirations can be accessed from any act. They are listed here. It's worthwhile to note that inspirations give experience proportionate to your level, though this is lost if you switch out the characters from your main party (they default to player character experience when they join up)

Some Inspirations that are not Act Specific may still be listed in Act 1. If you want the Actless combined with the lists from each act, please give feedback in the comments, along with any other formatting recommendations.

Acolyte
Fate Must Wait: Resurrect anyone in your party.

Criminal
A Fine Fortune: Steal an item worth at least 1000 gold.
Blood Price: Murder an innocent civilian.
Escape Artist: Escape from jail after being arrested.

Guild Artisan
A Golden Masterpiece: Sell an item worth at least 1000 gold.
Valued Costumer: Trade with someone who has High approval of you.

Noble
An Apocalyptic Deal: Accept an impossible deal.
Dragon's Hoard: Have at least 2000 gold among the party.
Fine By Me: Use your wealth to bribe a guard.
Noblesse Oblige: Dismiss a companion for interrupting a conversation or Ignore the pleas or requests of a companion in dialogue.
Penchant for Diplomacy: Reach a High level of approval with a companion.
Soul for Sale: Acquire a Soul Coin for your personal collection.

Soldier
One For The Ages: Survive a fight in which you kill ten or more enemies.
  • The Whispering Depths spider fight around (-571, -363) is an early way to achieve this Inspiration
Pentacrush: Kill 5 enemies in a single turn.
  • Goblins and the above fight are a good way to complete this. An elixir of Bloodlust and level 5 make this more achievable as a non-caster.
Strategist: Defeat a powerful foe in one strike.
  • The Toll Collector in act 2 is a perfect shoe in for this Inspiration, as there are mechanics that significantly reduce her health. Just don't target her until the final strike.

Haunted One
Indulge Thine Appetites: Follow your Dark Urge.
  • Pandirna in the grove's supply shack is an easily accessible option. Private, isolated, away from wayward ears...
  • There is also a hateful squirrel and a wounded bird, though you should engage them without a potion of animal speaking.
Subdue Thine Appetities: Resist your Dark Urge.
  • Arabella in the Druid's Grove is a great early option
  • The building is in the Wilderness at (). Just head down the stairs and resist the fantasy.
Unfriendly Fire: Defeat 5 neutral creatures in a single round.
  • Neutral Creatures have yellow circles around them in a fight.
  • Or you could kill them before they have a chance to join combat. Probably necessary, but I haven't run Dark urge yet.
  • Have you considered massacring Tieflings? I mean, what's 5 more.....
Killing Spree: Kill 5 enemies in a single round.
  • Very easily achieved at level 5, whether martial with an elixir of bloodlust or a caster with aoes. Spiders, Mephits, and Goblins are delicious sources of blood and guts and all delicious things.
Act 1 Inspirations
To Do List (Likely order of completion)

Astarion, Gale, Karlach, and Lae'zel are complete, barring corrections from other players.

Flexible Diplomacy (Betray the tieflings after convincing them to free Lae'zel.)
  • Tiefling Pair with cage at Wilderness Map (240, 374)
  • Use Persuasion on the tieflings
  • Attack them, not Lae’zel

Cheese your way through (Talk your way past the bandits and enter the chapel)
  • Chapel entrance at Wilderness Map (285, 330)
  • You must convince the bandits to leave instead of fighting
  • You must click on the main entrance to the crypt (not lockpick it) after bandits outside are sent away nonlethally
  • Lockpicking will remove this chance
  • You must pass a dialogue option to gain the inspiration

Just Passing Through (Trick the Goblins in Moonhaven)
  • Moonhaven is better known as the blighted village, Wilderness Map entrance at (60, 403)
  • The goblins you need to deceive are past the entryway
  • Option 1: Be a Drow
  • Option 2: Disguise yourself as a Drow
  • Pretty sure you don’t get Shart/Gale approval for tricking them these ways
  • Option 3: Pick the Persuade Option while not being a Drow
  • You do not trigger this inspiration from using your Illithid powers or Intimidation

Mirror Master (Trick the magic mirror in the Thayan Cellar)
  • The mirror is in the basement of the blighted village at (-655,-349) of the Apothecary’s Cellar
  • You can threaten to break the mirror for this inspiration
  • Astarion Approves
  • If you are less violent, you can learn about the mirror’s master from books, use disguise self to appear as the race and sex of the mirrors master and correctly answer three questions

One of Us (Use the Hag's Mask to peacefully bypass her thralls)
  • In the Hag’s lair beneath the teahouse past the secret door dwell the thralls at Overgrown Tunnwl map at (-320, 556)
  • Before the secret door is a table with four whispering masks. Wearing them will allow you to pass the thralls without starting combat
  • Cast Protection vs Good and Evil first unless you like save scumming
The Importance of Networking (talk your way into Zhentarim hideout)
  • The Zhentarim Hideout is near Waukeen’s rest between the barns on the Wilderness map at (-125, 618)
  • After talking your way pas the external guard, you must succeed a dialogue check (typically a persuasion or class based dialogue) for the Zhentarim to disarm the traps

Very Important Parasite (Deceive any of the guards in the goblin camp)
  • Applies to guards at front entrance (-93, 354)
  • Applies to guards at Shattered Sanctum entrance (297, -72)
  • I was able to obtain this quite easily by disguising myself as a Drow, or you could use Deception

A Better Offer (Convince the pit spiders to attack the goblin)
  • Spiders are at Shattered Sanctum map (300, 11)
  • Need Speak with Animal
  • Succeed Persuasion dialogue
  • Doing this before dealing with Smythin may fail the Saved by a Thread” inspiration
Anything for a Profit (Steal the toe ring from Crusher without getting caught.)
  • Crusher the Goblin is at Wilderness Map (-74, 440)
  • Don’t start a fight, ask him if he is serious and then get on your knees
  • Succeed at the sleight of hand check to remove the ring
  • Astarion Approves

Devil’s Advocate (Interrogate the dead mind flayer without drawing suspicion)
  • Dror Ragzlin is in the SHattered Sanctum map (290, 33)
  • Use Wisdom to seize control of the Mindflayer Interrogation
  • Asking “Who is the absolute” can cause issue, but the inspiration is still achievable if you ask it. You just need to pass a persuasion check to deal with Ragzlin's suspicions.
  • A safe option I used was 1. Who Killed You, 2. Who is the Absolute, 3. What were you doing in Faerun

Spiked (Poison the beer in the Goblin Camp)
  • Booze tub is at Wilderness Map -96, 444
  • Click on the tub, and combine the booze with a basic or drow poison from your inventory
  • An invisibility potion really helps here
  • A toast will follow. Don’t get caught until they drink

Silver Blades, Silver Tongues (Convince Kith'rak Voss to leave without violence)
  • Kith’rak voss is at Wilderness Map (-140, 557)
  • He must not discover that you have the artifact or that Lae’zel is infected
  • You can agree to follow his directions
  • Lae’zel can agree to follow his directions, but has difficulty with the deception check. This will grant more approval from her than previous option

Warmonger:
Cause Glut to stage a coup - then pick a side.

A Friend to All (Deceive Duergars Patrolling the Ebonlake)
  • This is mutually exclusive with Drowned in the Dark
  • You take the boat in the Underdark map (-6, -211)
  • Do not push a duergar off the boat
  • Instead make a check
  • Can possibly be easier with a drow?



I was unable to obtain:


Merciless (Manipulate the Flind into eating itself.)
  • The subject of this inspiration is at point {}
  • After combat starts, the Flind will initiate dialogue with the closest party member
  • There is a system of three Illithid persuasions separated by combats to force the Flind to eat the humans, then its pack, then itself
  • I have been unable to get a Inspiration from this action
  • It could be a class specific interaction?
Gale (Sage)
Secrets Of The Sundering: Unlock and read the Book of Dead Gods.
  • Dank Crypt (-315, -270)
  • This Inspiration is mutually inclusive with Divinity Undone, so make sure that Shadowheart/Acolyte is also in the party
  • Pass the Arcana, Strength, or class check to open the lock
  • Pass the religion check to examine the book
Whispers from the Grave: Glean some wisdom from speaking with the dead.
  • Any Location of a dead body (listed after Dank Crypt as there’s an amulet there that can really help)
  • Cast Speak with Dead on a corpse and ask questions
  • I believe this can be done by any party member for the inspiration

Roots of the Grove: Learn local history from the druidic frescos.

  • Emerald Grove map
  • 4 plaques near the entrance with intelligence skill checks (Investigation, religion, history)
  • Pass all four checks and receive the inspiration

Secrets Of The Shadow Druids: Discover and read Faldorn's Canticle.
  • Emerald Grove map at X:-484, Y:-7
  • It’s inside the locked chest with the half-torn note


A Natural Alliance: Recognise the druid and Harper armour.
  • Immediately below the broken bridge granting access to the Rise road (travel down via stone interactable west of the bridge)
  • Armor is on one of the two skeletons
  • I think there may be a check but I’m not entirely certain

A Solitary Spider:
Read the arachnomancer's journals at the bottom of the well.
  • Whispering Depths in the chamber with the books
  • It’s the one by the entrance to the right as you enter

Secrets Of The Necromancer: Discover the strange nature of the Thayan tome.
  • Tome is in Apothecary’s Basement behind mirror and trapped gate
  • Gem is in the Whispering Depths near one of the pits
  • Combine them and have a character who is not Companion Astarion succeed on at least one check. Giving Astarion the book means this inspiration does not occur in my experience

All Knowledge Is Worth Having:
Finish reading the Thayan tome of necromancy.
  • After the above, have the character succeed on two more checks
  • This inspiration is still achievable if you gave Astarion the book. Just have him read it from his inventory.

Secrets Of The High Chieftain: Read Volo's Guide to Goblins.
  • Wilderness map at (-92, 435) in the tower
  • Convince Booyagh to hand over the manuscript via skill check
  • Read it

The Phases Unfold: Solve the moon puzzle sealing the door to the Underdark.
  • Shattered Sanctum room at ()
  • Solve the Puzzle
  • Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A
  • The UP circles should be completely colored while the down circles should be completely black, with the left and right mirroring each other. This creates a sort of A shape at the top of the puzzle.


Secrets Of The Sussur Tree: Disable an arcane turrent using a sussur flower.
  • Sussur Flowers can be found near their waypoint in the underdark or at the bottom of the Arcane tower, which can be reached via jumping.
  • Right click on the item in your inventory and select throw, aiming near the base of the turret. You may want to be in turn based mode.
Secrets Of The Matron: Read the obscure text by a drow matron.
  • Access the Underdark via mushroom circle
  • After obtaining the blood guzzlers garb from a friendly bulette’s south fight location, there’s a little cache behind some spiderwebs
  • The book is called “On Educating the Faithful”

The Forbidden Arcane: Read Omeluum's notes on illithid magic.
  • Omeluum is in the Myconid Colony
  • You can buy his book after completing his fetch quest

If I Can't Have It...: Discover the secrets of the Adamantine Forge from all three drow wizards.
  • Filro is near the hook horrors by the Sussur tree
  • Dhourne is southeast of the Matron’s stash, accessible from the mushroom circle entrance
  • Xargrim is Myconid colony loot

I could not obtain

Reanimator (Correctly follow Gale's instructions to resurrect him)
(Gale cannot gain inspiration from being resurrected himself. That’s why he needs you.)

Karlach (Outlander)
You can access Companion Karlach before the gnolls if you cut across the river north of the forest area. And don't head swampward until you have her if you want those inspirations.

Sticky Fingers: Secure the pouch from the spider crevice.
  • The Spider Crevice is on the Wilderness map at (149, 364)
  • Upon clicking it, you will be presented with two skill checks
  • You do not need to succeed the nature check
  • You must succeed the sleight of hand or animal handling check

Eyes Of The Wild: See past the illusion covering the swamp.
  • You make this check in the Wilderness map at (49, 282)
  • By default, you must succeed on an investigation check, but some classes offer alternative skills to use

Walking On Air: Successfully use a fairy ring.
  • A fairy ring (in game as mushroom circle) is a small circle of mushrooms that is interactable. There are several in Act 1. They will be listed in pairs as they teleport you from one circle to another.
  • Wilderness at (-76,206) and Overgrown Tunnel at (-414, 615)
  • Overgrown Tunnel at (-360, 601), which you need a whispering mask to reach and Underdark at (96, -283)
  • Underdark at (70, -274), which must be accessed before its pair, and Underdark at (45, -265)

A Mother's Fury: Triumph over the mother Owlbear.
  • The Mother Owlbear is in a cave in the Wilderness at
  • There are several ways to get this inspiration after initiating dialogue with the Mother Owlbear
  • Attack the Owlbear (does not actually require the dialogue)
  • Succeed an Animal Handling check (if no Speak with Animal is active) and then leave
  • Succeed a Suvival check (if no Speak with Animal is Active) and then leave
  • Succeed a Performance check (if no Speak with Animal is active) and then leave
  • Succeed a Persuasion check (If Speak with Animal is active) and then leave
  • Succeed an Intimidation check (If Speak with Animal is active) and then leave

Cursebreaker: Discover the curse of Yeenoghu and destroy his hyenas.
  • The Hyenas are in the Wilderness map at (11,523)
  • Kill the hyenas

Rock Steady: Survive the bandit's rolling boulder trap.
  • The Bandit Cave is in the Wilderness map at (49, 585)
  • There are two traps to disarm as you move north into the cave. Get past them for the inspiration
  • You don't need to pass them, you just need to survive if you trigger the trap

Cub Tamer: Succesfully tame the owlbear cub.
  • The Owlbear cub found in the location of Mother's Fury must survive the fight
  • In the Goblin Camp, you must interact with the Owlbear Cub (through Chicken Chase or encouraging him to commit violence), and afterwards give him your scent
  • You must resolve the goblin camp through killing the leaders or siding with the cult
  • After rests, the owlbear cub will come to your camp. Feed him.
  • Be kind in the second encounter as well. He should stay

Abyss Jumper: Enter the Underdark through the bottomless well.
  • There is a Pit in the Whispering Depths at (-555, -356)
  • It has bats flying out
  • Cast Feather Fall on your group (the spell not a potion) and Jump in
  • Make sure your cursor does not say "dead" to where you aim. I would hate for you to pinball off the pit's edges

Mushroom Enthusiast: Destroy each kind of hazardous Underdark mushroom.
  • In the Underdark map at various locations
  • Destroy a Bipperbang (green ones), Tinmask (blue and flat), and Torchstalk (orange)

A Noble Endeavor: Effectively use a noblestalk mushroom.
  • The Noblestalk is in the Underdark map at (-5, -65) but is not necessary for the achievement
  • Curing Thulla at (83, -100) is the easiest solution. Succeed a medicine check to identify what's wrong, and give an antidote or other cure. You could give her the Noblestalk, but that's really a waste
  • Give the Noblestalk to Baelan Bonecloak (an ethically ambiguous decision)
  • Give the Noblestalk to Derryth Bonecloak (will have returns much later)
  • Give the Noblestalk to Shadowheart

Nest Egg: Take an item from the Carrion Crawler nest.
  • In the Underdark map at (29, -237)
  • Succeed at a survival check after clicking on the appropriate whole
  • You need a short character via Tav/Durge, disguise self, or a hireling
  • Reach into the hole :3

Clever Cuckoo: Steal from the giant bird's nest in the Underdark.
  • There is a large nest in the Underdark at 46, -151
  • You can jump to it from (41, -142)
  • Open the chest inside the concerningly large egg for this inspiration

The Floor Is Lava: Defeat the Lava Elemental in the lava lake.
  • There is a Lava Elemental in the Grymforge at approximately (-600, 218). It has a very wide roam range, but I find this coordinate to be a good place to start combat
  • Slay the Lava Elemental and receive this inspiration
Lae'zel (Soldier)
No One Left Behind: Ensure all of the Grove's defenders survive the first goblin assault.
  • The Grove defender fight can be triggered past (219, 410) or so. An autosave will warn you of proximity.
  • Don't let any non-goblinoids die

To Arms!: Help Guex learn to fight.
  • Guex can be found in the Wilderness at {206, 558)
  • Use Insight, Athletics, or Detect Thoughts to improve his form
  • Might be glitched currently

Warrior of the Hells: Kill the cultist leader seeking Karlach.
  • The Cultist Leader seeking Karlach can be found in the Wilderness map at (111, 563)
  • Any method of murder regardless of quest completion seems to trigger this, so go nuts.

Chain Of Command: Follow Flaming Fist orders at the burning inn.
  • The Flaming Firsts in question are outside the double doors in the Wilderness at (-66, 611)
  • Break down that door and follow them in, either with your player character or Wyll.

Conquer the Conquerors: Defeat the Githyanki raiding squad in the Mountain Pass.
  • The Githyanki Raiders cutscene will trigger in the vicinity of (-123, 541)
  • Any successful deception may lead to a peaceful resolution, so don't pick those options
  • You can attack them right away, confront them with the artifact, fail to deceive them, etc. Just don't trick them.

A Headless Horde: Kill every leader in the goblin camp.
  • All three goblin leaders are located in the Shattered Sanctum, located in the Wilderness Map at (-105, 462) and (-105, 481), or in the Underdark at (153, -270) to the Defiled Temple at (404, 31)
  • Priestess Gut can be found at (297, -19)
  • Dror Ragzlin can be found at (296, 45)
  • Nightwarden Minthara can be found at (335, 47)
  • Completing this Inspiration will lock out Minthara's Noble inspirations (you can still get them if your player Tav is a noble, of course.


Drowned in the Dark: Defeat the duergar patrolling on the Ebonlake.
  • This is mutually exclusive with A Friend to All
  • The boat is located in the Underdark map at (-8, -212)
  • Upon meeting the Duergar, attack them or kick the leader off of the boat. You do lose out on some loot for giving him the boot, but Lae'zel approves.

Shadowheart (Acolyte)
Divinity Undone: Unlock and read the Book of Dead Gods.
  • Dank Crypt (-315, -270)
  • This Inspiration is mutually inclusive with Secrets of the Sundering, so make sure that Gale/Sage is also in the party
  • Pass the Arcana, Strength, or class check to open the lock
  • Pass the religion check to examine the book

Her Gift of Silver: Recover Selûne's lost treasure through prayer.
  • There is a tiny locked chest in the Owlbear's cave
  • Do not open it. Hop over to behind the statue
  • Find the paper and pass the religion check to understand the prayer.
  • Hop back to the chest and then read the prayer again from your inventory
  • You can now loot the chest, though Shadowheart will interrupt

A Unified Spirit: Pray with the Flaming Fists at Waukeen's Rest.
  • The praying woman is at the entrance to Waukeen's Rest
  • A Paladin may pray with her and trigger this inspiration (including the Paladin hireling!)
  • Some Clerics may pray with her and trigger this inspiration (including the Cleric hireling!)
  • Shadowheart may NOT pray with her and trigger this inspiration (denied)

A Kiss Without Mercy: Endure the ritual of Loviatar until Abdirak is pleased.
  • Abdirak's chamber is in the Shattered Sanctum map at (330, -20)
  • After speaking with him, you must agree to his offer and make 3 checks
  • Your options are Constitution, Performance, Intimidation



Saving the Heretic: Learn about Maglubiyet and safely free his priest.
  • Brakkal is in the Shattered Sanctum at (267, 10)
  • You must speak with him before releasing him
  • Ideally the nearby goblins should be dead or gone before you release him


Silvanus' Solitude: Witness the ritual that seals off the grove from the world.
  • I have never tried this one, but it must be completed before the goblin camp is resolved
  • Presumably you must kill or drive out all tieflings
  • If you start the fight between Tieflings and Druids via stealing the idol and then escape, the Druids will kill the tieflings


Treefather's Sorrow: Unleash Silvanus' curse upon the grove.
  • I have never tried this one
  • Presumably you must kill all the grove's druids


Shatter the Moon: Destroy Selûne's protection over the Underdark fort.
  • The Statue of Selune is in the Underdark Map at (152, -234)
  • So long as it is shining, lasers will fire at external approachers of the Selunite Outpost
  • You can sneak in from the Goblin Camps shattered sanctum
  • You can sneak in from the Undermark map using a halfling-sized hole at (170, -209)
  • You must attack and "kill" the moonstone at the top of Selune statue's spear (get high and zoom out)


Last Rites of the Dark Dancer: Complete Eilistraee's ritual of sorrow and obtain her blessed blade.
  • Phalar Aluve is in the Underdark map at (113,-190)
  • Upon clicking the sword, you must succeed on the religion check and perform the recognized ritual.
  • Performing the strength check will not give you this Inspiration, though you still receive the blade. It also won't disrespect Lolth, praise be the Spider Queen.


Tipping the Scales: Earn the worship of the Kuo-toa in The Festering Cove.
  • The Festering Cove can be accessed from the Underdark map at (79, -242)
  • Approach the ritual, and either kill the Kuo Toa's god or become his champion
  • Becoming his champion can be accomplished by sacrificing a companion for a permanent bonus or succeeding a persuasion check and receiving a weapon
  • You may directly attack and win, though this will kill the kuo toa
  • To earn the worship without the kuo toa in the fight, You must succeed an investigation or arcana check to suss out the nature of the god
  • Then you must succeed a persuasion or performance check to draw out his true form before attacking/blackmailing


Acolytes of the Demonweb Pits: Persuade the spiders in Grymforge to remain faithful to Lolth.
  • The Spiders are in the Grymforge map at (-622, 363)
  • You must succeed the persuasion check, as the description implies. Not the other checks or race/class dialogues.

I've been unable to obtain "Justice Sees All" or "The Final Scribe's Boon" in full release. I think the Boon has been long since removed.
The Dark Urge (Haunted One)
Due to the unique nature of the Dark Urge's playstyle, all their Aspirations will be spoilered


To Sleep, Perchance To Dream Tentacled Dreams: Close the pinned Mindflayer's eyes forever.

Unfamiliar Familiarity: Release Withers from his tomb.

Snipping the Chords: Kill Alfira in cold blood.
  • On a rest after entering the grove (may not e the first), Alfira will visit your camp, so long as she is not dead or knocked out
  • If she is unavailable, a dragonborn bard will show up instead, but will NOT award the inspiration
  • Resting and dealing with the fallout will grant you this inspiration

Reuniting Friends: Kill Brynna and Andrick, reuniting them with their fallen companion.

Creatures of Bloodlust: Recruit the ogre mercenaries, using the corpses of your enemies as payment.

Good Ol' Long Pig: Eat a chunk of the cooked dwarf.

Grabbing the Poker with Both Hands: Torture Liam yourself.

Now It's a Party!: Poison the stolen ale, slaughtering the goblins.
  • Simultaneous with Charlatan's Spiked

    Fresh Kindle for the Fire: Leave the pinned Benryn to burn.

    Camaraderie in Bloodthirst: Spill the blood of the tieflings.
  • According to my testing, glitching the Save the Refugees quest does not grant this inspiration

    New Management: Kill the Myconid Sovereign for Glut.

    Head of the Snake: Take Nere's head.
  • According to my testing, having Duergar survivors attack after you slay Nere tends to interrupt the absolutely necessary cutscene for this inspiration. I recommend you kill them first. Kill them all.
  • Nere can be found at -634, 312 on the Grymforge Map
  • The rocks outside must be destroyed first, in accordance with the quest

  • Inside the Shattered Sanctum, there is a prisoner who will die within a time limit if you approach close enough. I usually get ready before climbing the stairs behind Priestess Gut's Altar.
  • You can kill all the goblins before Smythin dies and trigger this Inspiration
  • In far less lethal means, ensuring there are no goblins within a set radius of Smythin allows him to escape. I've personally used a spider familiar to scare them off, but there are other strategies that can scare or distract npcs.


The Bard With Nine Lives: Rescue Volo from the Goblin Camp.

Guardian of the Forgotten: Save the tieflings from the goblin assault.
  • When All three goblin camp leaders have been killed, a cutscene will start with Zevlor upon your proximity
  • The Inspiration will be gained after he thanks and rewards you

Lethal Endeavor: Escort Baelen out of the field of bibberbangs.
  • Baelen is in the Underdark map around (-19, -68)
  • You can teleport him out, or get his backpack close enough that he can grab it without a bipperbang exploding.
  • I prefer to use a familiar or Glut to move the backpack, as they do not set off the bipperbangs.
  • Baelen will talk to you after teleporting, and you will receive the Inspiration.



Breaker of Chains: Save the deep gnomes from Nere and the duergar.
  • Nere is in the Grymforge map behind the doors at (-641, 305)
  • After destroying the rubble and releasing Nere, you must convince him to spare the gnomes or kill him before he puts the rest to death. Which he will do without your intervention.


There was an inspiration for rescuing Nadira in Early Access, but it was removed some time before patch 9.

Always a Step Ahead of the Darkness: Reach Nightsong without having been affected by the shadow curse.
  • I have placed this Inspiration first on the list despite the fact that it will liekly be one of the last achieved. This is because it requires your attention from the beginning of the act.
  • The Shadow Curse is present everywhere in the Shadow-Cursed Lands area map
  • Venturing outside the range of a light source will trigger the Shadow Curse. The game makes this readily apparent, as it will shift you into Turn-Based Mode
  • The ideal strategy is to ensure get to Last Light and ensure that the Moonlantern reaches Last Light at the earliest opportunity. Receiving a blessing at the Inn and acquiring the Moonlantern will trivialize the Shadowcurse until you reach the end of act 2.
  • Completing this inspiration may block you from many other inspirations and quests in act two if it is not completed last.
  • This can be achieved alongside Embracing the Environment, with some difficulty. I had a non-Outlander party member enter a tomb without protection (nice) until Embracing the Environment was achieved, but ensured my Outlander never suffered the shadow curse.

Sleeping in the Dark: Take a full Long Rest in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
  • You can accomplish this immediately after entering the Shadow-Cursed lands
  • Just take a long rest
  • You can advance several companion quests too!


Bumps in the Dark: Conquer three combat encounters in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
Child's Play: Beat Oliver at hide and seek without alerting the shadow creatures.
  • Oliver can be found in the Shadow-Cursed Lands at (68, 22)
  • Upon agreeing to play hide-and-seek with him, he will first hide behind the nearby cart
  • After you find him, agree to another round. He will summon Best Mom, Best Dad, and Second Best Dog.
  • Avoid being caught and venture into the broken building, to the east side. Oliver will run over to you shortly
Right click on oliver and you will achieve the inspiration

I've Had Worse: Successfully drink and resist the negative effects of the brewer's concoction.
  • This is achieved in the Shadow-Cursed Lands at (-226, -71)

Grove Keeper's Keeper: Protect Halsin's Portal while he saves the spirit of the land.

Never Liked Stairs: Enter a restricted area in Moonrise Towers from the outside.
Entering Ketheric Thorm's quarters from the outside can gain this inspiration. There are that travel up Moonrise Tower east of the main door. From there, jump down to the platform, climb the ladder, and unlock one of the two doors in the SHadowcursed Lands at (-151, -158)

No Cursed Stone Left Unturned: Explore each key area of the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Tools of the Trade: Obtain the orthon's crossbow.
Lae'zel, Jaheira (Soldier)
Centennial Rivalries: Complete the Harper ambush.
  • This ambush is different than the Folk Hero's Not Another Soul
  • If you have the Spider's Lyre from Minthara, you can summon Kar'niss to lead you through the Shadow-Cursed Lands
  • This caravan will be ambushed at (15, -13). Side with the Harpers and win.

Shield of the Moon: Obtain Selûne's blessing from Isobel.
  • Isobel can be found in the Shadow-Cursed at (-65, 171)
  • The Inspiration should procc after the conversation regardless of outcome

Absolute Devastation: Destroy Last Light.

Realities of War: Tell Arabella what happened to her parents.
  • Arabella's parents can be found in the Shadow Cursed Lands at (-185, 17)
  • After "rescuing" her (see "Greatness Thrust Upon Them"), she will show up in your camp next to Withers (coordinates vary by camp location).
  • Inform her of their death in any manner to gain this inspiration.

An Apple a Day Keeps the Scalpel Away: Defeat the Surgeon without being operated upon.
  • The Surgeon can be found in the Shadow-Cursed Lands at ()
  • You Must succeed a Religion Check (DC 14), a Persuasion Check (DC 21) and another Persuasion Check (DC 21)
  • Shadowheart has special interactions here. Be sure to have her in your party so she can gain "Did My Homework"
  • Alternatively, if you don't manage to convince him, kill him before he gets a turn and also gain the "Masterful Execution" inspiration.

The Best Offense is Virtually Nonsense: Defeat a member of the Thorm family without drawing steel.
I recommend completing this from the above Inspiration, as they can be gained simultaneously. If you choose the dialogue options.
Your other options are the Toll Collector (-109, -91) or the Brewer ()

Masterful Execution: Kill any of the bosses in and around the Shadow-Cursed Lands in a single round of combat.
The Toll Collector is a great choice if you can blitz her friends to remove her armor. She can be found in the Shadow-Cursed Lands at (-109, -91)

  • After a cutscene, do not run away, but agree to fight and move towards the Shadows asap to join combat. I started outside the combat range, which made my life more difficult
  • Don't let any of the remaining three Harpers die during combat
From One Hero To Another: Meet Jaheira and stay in her good books.
  • Jaheira is first met im the Shadow-Cursed Lands at (-18, 127)
  • When meeting with Jaheira for the first time, dedicate yourself to pursuing the cult
  • When speaking with Jaheira a second time at -61, 141), drink the wine. Failure to drink the wine will miss this inspiration.
A Smile Better Suits...: Offer a hopeful response to Alfira's enquiry.
  • Alfira is in the Shadow-Cursed Lands at (-68, 141)
  • When Alfira asks how do you keep going, and then about how the prisoners might be doing, do not answer with the bottommost (cruel) response

A Bet Is a Bet: Meet with Lakrissa in Baldur's Gate.
Glitch Alert: Only speak with Lakrissa after speaking with Alfira, otherwise they get trapped in a lesbian feedback loop. Which will award this Inspiration, but not the other.
