The code of strategy by Chairman Mao
In the early anti encirclement and suppression war of the CPC, Chairman Mao once put forward a 16 words travel pithy formula, which is also pretty useful in the games of AOE3, especially for multi-player game. That is "敌进我退,敌驻我扰,敌疲我打,敌退我追", translate it to English: "enemy advances, we retreat; enemy stays, we harass; enemy is tired, we fight; enemy retreats, we pursue".
Then how to implement this code into our games? Here is my understanding:
1.敌进我退,enemy advances, we retreat
when our army encounter enemy with equally size or even stronger, we retreat, use space to exchange some time, after that time our armies can finish assembling, maximum upgrading or even better healed. This code can be used in both frontal battlefield or local harassment battle.
2敌驻我扰,enemy stays, we harass
When enemy is not attacking or we know enemy is using their army to defense, then we can harass, use small and multiply small rapid forces to attack enemy in different direction, if possible, kill their villagers or destory those unguarded trading posts. If enemy to attack one of our small forces , then we pull back that one to safe place or different direction, meanwhile, another side can go and harass now. The purpose of harassment is not to kill the enemy troops or defeat them, but to drag them down, force them to make mistakes.
3.敌疲我打,enemy is tired, we fight
When the enemy is totally tried with our harassment and use all his armies to chasing our small rapid forces, we can set up a trap, assemble our army at a small and narrow place, when they falls into our trap, we fight. A mixed force of multiple branches of arms can always do great job in this kind of battle: Infantry stop the enemy from going forward, Cavalry attack from the back, cannons destroy their main force, and priests heal after the battle.
4.敌退我追,enemy retreats, we pursue
When enemy lost most of his units and start retreat, we pursue in the wild, but when they retreat to strongly defense area, such as castles and towers, we stop. In that pursue, Calvs or fast units can do better job usually.
Back to the guerrilla operations code of Chairman Mao, it was formed during the guerrilla warfare in the winter of 1927 and the spring of 1928, and was widely promoted in May 1928 after the reunion.
