This version doesn't get flagged as a virus, has middle mouse as a hotkey, should work on any update, and should fit on smaller screens. Enjoy and please check out the original since this is a fork.

2. Launch game and load into campaign
3. Open program.
4. Adjust Values
5. If camera height breaks set it back to .00085 or the minimum value

BG3Cam Instructions
Instructions
1. Download
2. Launch game and load into campaign
3. Open program.
4. Adjust Values
5. If camera height breaks set it back to .00085 or the minimum value
6. Supports controller and middle mouse camera tilting. Or you can hold r and move the mouse.

It's really quiet simple. I really don't know what to say if you have problems with this.
Better Camera 2 Instructions
Better Camera 2
1. Download the correct version from github, if you're running the game in DX11 you require that version. If you run the game in Vulkan you require that version. If you are skipping the launcher the game runs in DX11. You can verify this in task manager with the game running. Or if you ignored all of this you'll get an error that says you're using the wrong version.
2. Load into the campaign
3. Run the program
4. Click Version Check

This will only work with the most recent version of the game. If it's not working click version check at the bottom.
Please see BG3Cam if out of date.
Currently: 4.1.1.3636828

https://github.com/GraySquyd/BG3-Better-Camera/releases

There's a few options grayed out currently because they don't apply to anything and I didn't feel like removing them. Plenty still works.

The Basic Buttons
are read, write, and reset/defaults. Read gets the current value of the game. Write applies the value of the editable box to the game. Reset and defaults puts it back to what the game launches with.

Hotkeys
are to the right of each setting, marked by the green box on the image below. You can change hotkeys by clicking the box next to increase and decrease. There is also an increment button to left of the hotkeys. This will control how much a value is increase/decreased.

Saving
At the bottom there is a setting to save and load hotkeys marked by the blue box. There is also a setting to save and load values marked by the red box. If you set the maximum distance to 24 and like that, then save the setting, and next time if you hit load it will automatically apply that setting.

WHEN REPORTING AN ISSUE

Please include what version of the game you were using, and whether it was Vulkan or DX11
What GPU do you have
What setting you were trying to use
Where you were in the game and what where you doing
What did you eat for breakfast

These work fine on mine and a friends computer. I can't replicate many issues, and I think this is because of how you use this program. Since I made this I understand the constraints in which it can be used, but I cannot predict how everyone is going to use it or how their game will handle it. This makes it a pain to troubleshoot and try and figure out why its not working for people.

This is a work in progress, so please report issues on my github. Suggestions are also fine but can't be guaranteed. If you'd like to support my I'd very very grateful.

Thanks for checking this out and enjoy!
FAQ
My antivirus flags this
Yeah this will probably be the case for most people, since mine does to. I made this with cheat engine which antivirus programs already tend to not be a fan of. A basic explanation is that this a program modifying another program running which is usually a problem. In this case its simply adjusting the values baldurs gate 3 holds in memory for camera settings. Some where in memory baldurs gate 3 has a value 12 for the maximum distance you can zoom out. This program writes over that. That's all it does. I've always seen this flagged as a "HackTool" or "Unwanted". If you think its a virus and choose not to download it that's fine no hard feelings. There's a github though for the source code if you'd like to check that out.

You didn't read
I know you didn't read. You asked a question without trying the program or reading a guide. This is because one of these would've solved your issue. So you were lazy and commented anyways. This is annoying and I will probably delete your comment because I don't want to be reminded of your ignorance.

Know Bugs
  • White Screen Issue/Black Screen. Sometimes caused by incorrect values and the camera bugs out. If you see a loading icon and a black screen after changing the camera this is the problem.
  • WASD camera control stops working. Seems to be related to Cam Distance being <= 0, sometimes from loading settings. I don't know why it does this.
  • Scaling on 1080p won't let you see the whole program

If you play DOS2 I also maintain this tool

It seems that BG3Cam has a tiny problem since last patch. It works though, but after changing Min Zoom to 2 and set the Combat Camera Zoom on :
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. (Parameter 'index')

Thanks for your mod, Octopus.
It is the best of those that currently exist and the only one that has dared to touch the combat camera.
greetings.

I'm guessing that there's no way to make the Controller tilt/pitch adjustment in BG3Cam smooth like it is in NativeCameraTweaks?
Ideal mix would be to have the extra zooming options of BetterCam2 (not that much of a fan of the straight zoom from whatever pitch is set in BG3Cam - BetterCam2 allowed for a quick change from 3rd Person to more Iso-like cam) but with the Pitch controls of NativeCameraTweaks. Dunno if they can be made compatible. Currently trying both results in BG3Cam not hooking

@Octopus - Yes I've tried that multiple times too. Unfortunately it doesn't save the values unlike Better Camera (correct me if I'm wrong), so I find it cumbersome to use every time. But thanks for mentioning that it doesn't need to be updated, will give it another go.

@Moyocoya They probably have the camera set that way so they can guarantee a certain standard of quality, testing a game with that many camera angles would be a pain. It's much easier to confine the camera and test in a limited scope. There's a lot of ways to break the camera, but maybe a warning on an option to unlock the camera would've been nice since camera mods have been very popular since DOS2

@Moyocoya literally this - such an incredible and breathtaking world with the the character models and environment details to support an up close and personal feel of the game. I understand the mechanics lend themselves to a isometric camera at times, BUT that's not an excuse to prevent the player from immersing themselves in that 3rd person, over the shoulder view
