Contributions are greatly appreciated!

Blurb
Play as the strange Wandering Drone, an entertainment construct escaped from a far off facility - it's origin as mysterious to itself as those around it.

Dig up a mordicum of secrets, regrets, and memories.
Turn them into powerful abilities you can use to enhance your survival experience.

However, you must maintain a mysterious Itch in order to not self-destruct. Entertainment is your purpose, after all.

The Mod
Alert: This mod is designed to be discovered and played of your own volition, without any other prior knowledge. A stark contrast from DST itself, I know. You are, of course, free to ruin all that for yourself if you wish, so proceed with caution, because this workshop page will contain spoilers.

Oh, also, there's a skilltree now. Featuring 26 unique skills. They should be pretty self-explanatory. Feedback highly appreciated!

Fully controller compatible!

This mod permits the discovery of mysterious buried tapes. Do they contain memories from a past life? Other people's deepest and darkest thoughts? Repressed desires recorded on tape, only to be thrown away? Who knows - and frankly, who cares, because more importantly, they do contain valuable crafting ingredients.

But what can I do with these ingredients? And do they have to take up so much space in my pockets?
Well, head on over to the character's crafting filter, and you'll see something interesting. These are Wandering Drone's abilities, and are intended to be your main source of power throughout the game.
But not so fast. You also might have noticed that your hunger meter is gone - only to be replaced by an awfully mechanical-looking organ of some kind.

This is your 'Itch' meter - and it represents the amount of time left before you start getting punished for not playing tapes.
As an entertainment drone, your purpose is to provide entertainment to those around you. Now you might start to see where all those tape bits are going to come in handy.

Wandering Drone's abilities are intended, in part, to speed up the early game. Later on, tapes will grant you powerful combat abilities, but at the cost of your 'Itch' meter instead of restoring it like most abilities. We wouldn't want a scrawny little drone like you getting into too many fights, after all - you're built for entertainment, not combat. This means you'll need to carefully manage which abilities you use and when, to keep those 'supervisors' of yours satiated.

Speaking of not being built for combat - upon taking damage, Wandering Drone gets temporarily stunned and slowed down. This means you must be extremely cautious around combat, particularly when groups of enemies are involved. However, some of their abilities can circumvent (or even temporarily disable) this downside.

Abilities
Spoilers!
Non-Combat Tapes

"News Anchor"

This tape makes you act as a portable science machine. Handy for speeding things along early on, and especially for crafting your next set of tapes. This is the only one avaliable from the start.

"Science in the Space Age"

Like News Anchor, but it makes you an alchemy engine instead. Fun fact, both the science tapes work for nearby teammates as well!

"LS-M10 Radar Manual"

Now things are getting interesting. This tape isn't very good at restoring your meter, but it will periodically reveal portions of the map as well. Additionally, it has a rare chance to uncover something special on the map - alongside a tendency to reveal rare and important structures. Spooky. Generally, you'll want to craft this one as soon as possible to kickstart map exploration. Has a very long use time (1 whole day).

"System Restore"

This handy item will restore your itch meter and healthbar overtime - excellent after using some of those costly combat tapes.

"Cyclical Life"

Become one with the universe - this tape will provide a different buff depending on the current day phase. Most notably, night vision at night - but the other ones are pretty cool too.

Combat Tapes

"Porcine Propaganda"

Pigs are the perfect candidates for indoctrination - stupid, dimwitted, and entranced by that great big TV on your head. Porcine Propaganda leverages this to the max, not only befriending the bipedal beasts but also providing them with a work and combat buff. Use it to demolish forests - and maybe uncover some tapes while you're at it.

"Circuit Building: Overtuned"

This tape makes you more volatile than a molten piece of solder that just slid off the iron. Any enemies who dare target you while the effect is active will be in for a shocking surprise! And all their friends, too. And maybe some innocent bystanders as well... oops.
As an added bonus, you will be immune to WD's damage stun mechanic, and have extra some damage resistance, while the effect is active! So feel free to dive headfirst into combat (safety not guaranteed).

"Disappearing Act"

This one makes you briefly vanish, becoming untargetable and able to strike from the shadows while it's active. An extremely potent ability, it comes with the drawback of quickly draining your meter should you be careless.

"Stormchasers: A Documentary"

The easiest way to chase a storm, is, of course, by becoming it.
Harness those dangerous lunar energies and strike nearby enemies with the power of the moon. This will briefly slow them down, giving you the upper hand in combat. Zap! Deals massive damage to bosses.

Credits:
This mod would not have been possible without a few individuals lending their contributions generously!
https://steamcommunity.com/id/strelka for the invisibility code.
c0aldri for creating the fan art that the Roseate and Triumphant skins were originally based on.
Many individuals in the modding channels on various discords helping me out with various code-relating anguishes. (seriously, wouldn't have been able to finish this without them)

Known Issues:
- Eject skill doesn't work after saving and loading with a tape inserted (It will work again once the current tape finishes and you play a new one).
- Don't Starve Alone causes many visual (and some gameplay-related) bugs. Playing with both mods enabled is not recommended.
- Played tapes don't carry across forest/caves due to them being seperate servers.
- Itch values higher than 100 are not saved when travelling between forest/caves.

@N3M3S1S_ breaking stuff is how you get tapes, the graveyard and scrapyard are good sources early game, but most breakable things have chances to drop them

I found a bug:
Cyclical Life Just crashes ur game without any Warning
Garett Skott Nov 16, 2024 @ 2:03am
Yea, but nothing that affects the inventory or the caves. I didn't do anything peculiar that specific time that I hadn't done all the other times other than playing PP two days earlier.
I managed to recreate the bug: I used PP, waited until it ended, then went to the caves and my inventory was gone.
