Hot tips for those who haven't played the game yet.

I completed the game recently and as usually happens in games like this, some prior knowledge can save you from doing things that are redundant or just plain useless.

A little of everything.
1:
Weapon Scrap (The action of converting weapons to ammo and upgrade resources occasionally) is not useful on tier 2 or higher weapons. The amount of ammo generated is far less than its resale value. The only reason to do this would be to free up inventory space. Which won't happen if you have a horse or an ally accompanying you.

Buy your ammo in town.

2:
Get a horse ASAP. This is the most useful tool in the game. Buy it first before anything else.

And speaking of tools: Shovels, pickaxes, ropes, skinning kits and lockpicks, they all come in handy. Always have at least a few of these items in storage.

3:
I particularly feel compelled to explore everything i come across in most games that have a strong exploration component. And i believe that avoiding doing this in Weird West improves the experience considerably.

Explore organically, not straying too far into scenarios where you don't have any goals. Only go places if you have a side or main quest, or something of similar importance (Like Gathering Resources). If you explore too much, you run the risk of not having new content to explore in the next characters. The game doesn't change much and the variety of original scenarios and situations is small.

Furthermore, it is possible to "steal" another character's loot by accident, simply by looting areas that he will visit.

So, despite any impulses you might have, hold back this time.

4:
Weapons in Weird West have power categories determined by stars (1 to 5). Legendary weapons (Five stars), from what I understand, appear randomly. In my case, the only legendary to appear in stores were the two types of shotguns and bows. So I wouldn't waste a lot of time looking for all of them.

Check out the stores at night. Sometimes some appear on top of the tables in the back rooms.

Apparently there are chances for these weapons to spawn in chests or in some quests too, but it didn't happen to me.

Armor can be crafted by yourself, so don't worry about finding it. Just get the necessary animal skins.

By the way: Don't buy the guns.Steal them.

5:
Playing with keyboard and mouse I recommend disabling the permissive aiming option (which will hinder you from hitting specific targets) and switching the aiming format to experimental, that will allow you to rotate the camera and aim at the same time.

6:
Take note of the ore mines (Which is where you will get the resources to upgrade weapons).

You don't need to buy weapons up to level 4. Mine the ores and give the upgrades yourself. It's not a lot of work and you can do it right at the beginning of the game.

Also, only upgrade weapons that have some kind of special feature (such as increased crit), indicated by a blue diamond.

7:
Investing in the abilities to jump higher and walk faster in stealth mode first is a good idea.

Stealth attacks are OP (As always) and jumping high expands all your exploration possibilities.

Beware of skill combos that stake very high percentages, though.

I literally killed the final boss of the third chapter with one critical hit (on HARD). It was funny, but very anticlimactic.

8:
Don't use teammates unless you have equipment similar to yours and extra healing items to give them.

In practice, all npcs in the game that can help you are equipped with crap and will die almost instantly from chapter 2 onwards.

Using one of them as an extra backpack can be useful, but not essential.

And simultaneously, your combined DPS can ruin the difficulty of the game. The HARD difficulty scales enough to be balanced if you have an NPC with you, but two is too many.

9:
Junk items take up more space than they give you money. Therefore, I recommend not collecting them unless you already have the horse or an NPC accompanying you and can collect enough to gain something.

If you're going to do this, only take items worth more than 1 gold.

Focus on earning money by selling weapons, amulets, ore bars and collecting bounties... Or robbing stores and banks.

10:
With mouse and keyboard, i found the skill layout extremely unintuitive. Took a while to click. I believe that focusing on developing the skills of a single weapon at a time instead of spreading the points is the best solution. Makes it easier to map the skills in your brain.

11:
Ignore melee combat altogether (Maybe not the kick).

12:
The reactivity of this game if you follow the script presented by the main story is very questionable. This game is a complex machine of systems and mechanics generating generic (Not in a bad way) content for you to interact with. It doesn't have much substance on its own, but if you behave like a loose screw, you might be in for some surprises at what can happen.

This is a game that lives and dies by the player's dedication to experimenting with its tools. Try not to get too comfortable.

Maybe an explosive inside a barrel that you kicked over a bonfire is just what will reveal the magic of the game for you.

I always had a knack for the Wild West... movies (Dances with wolves), tv series (Deadwood), boardgames (Zombicide Undead or Alive)... Instantly clicked for me! I see a "Commandos" vibe that fits very well to me. Thanks for the tips!! :roach_jim:

Note on the Melee part, if you upgrade ambusher and sneak up on targets you will almost always Kill them in 1 hit

Although I personally prefer using a game controller, I find your suggestions to be not only valid but quite helpful. This game really has me hooked. I read a lot of DC horror comics and stuff like "Weird Western Tales" and "Weird War Tales" when I was a kid. This game is deeper on many levels than one might initially think. Thanks !

My first bounty kept killing me until I took #12 to heart and went wild. Now I understand the game and am having a chaotic blast :D
