Using the method explained here it's like telling the launcher "No, don't use the Steam account for login, use a regular Arenanet account instead".
They are different account with different purchase methods. So many people falling for the trap with buying DLCs through Steam account (that goes to their Steam account) but wanting to use their regular account.
