SNCF UFR

From the 1930s, a French industrialist, René Porte, set up the first experience of rail-road transport in France in collaboration with various road carriers in order to create the UFR system, named after the company l' Union des transports Ferroviaires et Routiers” which he created to promote his system.
It was only after the Second World War that the latter really took off, and soon the UFR shipyards were to cover French territory (and even beyond) ensuring the transport of all types of goods, through a wide range of trailers.
The transport is ensured by specially modified flat wagons, for the single-carriers of old modified OCEM-29 wagons, or new wagons for the two-carrier models. They thus accommodate a road trailer equipped with some specificities, in particular to ensure the guidance of these on the wagons.
Although innovative, the system was limited by the small size of road trailers, and it was gradually supplanted by the Kangaroo system capable of accommodating more conventional trailers. The last services were provided in 1983.
