Introduction
Shaded Citadel is an early to mid-game region, characterized by dark, decrepit hallways and dangerous, spider infested lower pathways. It is considered a challenging early-game region for new players. While traveling without a light source is not impossible, it is highly recommended for first time visitors. It is the starting region for Gourmand if you have the downpour DLC.
Traversing the Shaded Citadel.
The Shaded Citadel is a dark area, so I really recommend that you bring a lantern with you when going here. You can get these by trading with the scavenger merchant that is found in the region.
Near that scavenger merchant, you can find the echo of Four Needles Under Plentiful Leaves. There is also a colored pearl here, too. Also, if you don't have a lantern then some slug cats will have overseers that will illuminate the player's path. It is also possible to grab a creature found here called a lantern mouse and us it as a light source, but this weighs Slugcat down considerably. Here is a map of the shaded citadel.
The Creatures of Shaded Citadel.
In this section, I will list all Shaded Citadel's creatures. I will not explain them that much, but i will give you a bit of information about every creatures. if you want more information, please refer to the rain world wiki.

- Scavengers, often called Scavs by the community, are tribal creatures that are one of the most widespread species in Rain World.

- Pink Lizards (also referred to as Magenta or Purple Lizard) are one of the species of Lizards. They are one of the first Lizards the player may see in the game, and likely the first variety encountered that can climb poles. They are found mostly throughout the early-game but make a few rare appearances in later areas.

- Black Lizards (also known as Mole Lizards) are one of the many species of Lizards. They are one of the rarest Lizards, only appearing in three regions, and are also the only species of Lizard to have no vision.

- Lantern Mice are passive, fearful creatures found in Shaded Citadel. Their natural bioluminescence may be exploited to navigate dark areas.

- Coalescipedes, also known as Spiders, are swarming creatures that are able to easily overpower their prey with large numbers.

- Big Spiders, alternatively known as Wolf Spiders by the community, are large, spider-like creatures with many legs, retractable fangs, and spiny protrusions on their backs. They are both predator and prey, hunting things smaller than them and being hunted by bigger predators.

- Monster Kelp are stationary predators often found in or around bodies of water, which hunt by dragging unsuspecting prey into their den.

Food in Shaded citadel.
There are two main food sources that are found in shaded citadel: Batflys and Slime mold. The DLC Character Gourmand will start in a small patch of slime mold because of its large and precarious food requirments.
4 Tips for both Shaded Citadel And Memory Crypts!
- Memory Crypts has no threat music, but approaching Miros Birds can be heard from offscreen due to the loud clanking noises they make when moving.

- Spears spawn randomly and have a few guaranteed spawn points across the sub-region. These can be embedded in walls to travel over terrain more quickly than going in the tunnels underneath.

- Flashbangs also spawn at set points through the sub-region and blind Miros Birds for up to 10 seconds when thrown in their vicinity.

- Discarding or swallowing Lanterns in favor of other more useful items is recommended as Memory Crypts is bright enough to travel without one.
Memory Crypts and Miros Birds
The Memory Crypts are places with only 1 inhabitant: Miros Birds. ( I guess 2 if you have the downpour DLC because Miros Vultures exist.) In this section, i will teach you how to Evade and combat Miros birds. ( Refer to the Wiki For Miros Vultures. )

- Evasion

Tunnels and other tight spaces make for good hiding spots as Miros Birds are often too large to enter. Staying hidden while a group runs by is a great way to stay safe. Miros Birds are capable of sticking their beaks into tunnels to catch prey they see entering, or spot inside as they pass by. They typically lose interest and move on from tunnel entrances quickly.

Miros Birds are faster than Slugcat and tricky to outrun, especially on the uneven terrain of Memory Crypts. Their arrival is usually forecast by various metallic sounds from offscreen. Carrying Flashbangs is a useful strategy, as throwing one can also buy the player enough time to find shelter.

- Combat

While Miros Birds can be killed, their high health and bite lethality make attempts at normal combat risky. Miros Birds are quick to bite anything that gets too close, which makes engaging at close quarters challenging without first stunning, blinding or distracting them. Miros Birds can be reliably killed with a single Explosive Spear. The simplest way of killing a Miros Bird, when an explosive spear is not available, is to isolate one from the group, blind it with a Flashbang and then spear it to death. This still requires caution as Miros Birds may bite Slugcat even when blinded. Jellyfish can also be used to temporarily incapacitate them while doing damage.

You have conquered Shaded Citadel! Now what?
After you have conquered Shaded Citadel There are a few options on where you can go:

- You can go to Industrial Complex.

- You can go to Shoreline.

- If you go through Memory Crypts yo can go to the Exterior.

- And if you have the downpour DLC you can even go to garbage wastes!

Shaded Citadel Trivia!
To know if you Truly know Shaded Citadel, Here are a few questions to see if u do. Good Luck!

- Early in development Shaded Citadel was originally called Shadow Urban.
The Shaded Citadel/Garbage Wastes connection is one of the only two connections between vanilla regions added by downpour, the other being Drainage System/Chimney Canopy.

- Early concept art depicts Memory Crypts' cabinets being bolted together with huge clamps.

- In room SH_B11, there are 20 Coalescipedes that cannot reach the player due to level geometry.

If you know the answers to all these questions, Then you are a rain world Veteran.

*Spoilers for Rivulet*

Miros Birds are not there in Rivulet's campaign as Memory Crypts is now half-flood the threats are now, DLLs, Yellow Lizards, and Proto DLLs. (I also think you should mention Spitter Spiders because of Hunter and the Downpour campaigns.)
