Download Beginner's Playground + A Complete Guide to Manipulating Save Files
By Oreo_belt25
"Tolerare Vigemusque"
"Endure the Horde, Thrive Beyond it's Grasp..."

Here you can download a world file with a successful settlement, highly fortified with plenty of food. None of the campaign has been pursued, nor has any of the advanced technologies been unlocked. This settlement is the perfect playground for beginner players looking to learn the game and see how a advanced settlement runs.

Within this page is also a step-by-step guide, complete with screenshots on how to download and install the world, and how to manipulate save files so you can share your creations with other players! (don't worry, you don't need to have any computer knowledge and this won't affect your game at all beyond being able to move around save files)

Intro
"Endure the Horde, Thrive Beyond it's Grasp..."

Grim Realms is a punishing game, and it doesn't help that it's still in Beta. Sometimes you don't know if it's something you're doing wrong, or if it's a problem with the system!
So here, you will find not only a save file with a established settlement that you can treat as your playground, but you will also find a complete guide on how to install this world into your game!

Winter Fortress(World Download)

To download the World File, follow this Google Drive Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-Lg1lGnBORtTyBK850mz5zovsihroa31/view?usp=sharing
(Yes, downloading links form the internet is usually not a good idea, but I'm a good boy~)

Tolerare Vigemusque, Latin for "Endure and Thrive" is a world that is 3 in-game years old.
I've used all the lessons I've learned over my playtime to create a defensible, sustainable and automatic settlement that will keep itself alive so you won't need to worry about micromanaging while you explore and learn all this game has to offer!

You won't need to suffer the endless pointless deaths while trying to figure out basic gameplay mechanics(I wish someone taught me how to fish when I first started the game...)

More importantly; there's no spoilers!
None of the advanced research like gunpowder has been learnt, the story line hasn't been progressed at all, no alignment has been selected yet and not a single character has stepped foot outside of this settlement. The entire world of Grim Realms is still your's to explore at your leisure, within the safety of the great stone fortress!

And hopefully my build might inspire you to get creative on your own runs of the game, to develop your world or build on this one! And may your faction conquer the lands of Grim Realms!

Below are some screenshots of the settlement:

For instructions on how to install the World File, see below:
A Complete Guide to Save Files
Grim Realms auto-saves the game every midnight, and worse; it manually overwrites your save files!
This can be pretty brutal for new players and you may wish for a way to grab your save and stick it in your pocket...

Well wish no more!
Luckily, Grim Realms' coding is quite straight forward and modular, allowing people to pick up and move around save files as easily as using a flash drive! You don't need to have even basic knowledge about computers to use my guide here and once you know how to do this, it will make your Grim Realms' experience significantly more fun since you'll not only be able to make backup saves of your worlds, but you'll also be able to share and exchange your worlds with other players through the Discord![discord.gg]
(at least until the dev streamlines this through the workshop)

In the Grim Realms Game folder on your PC, your worlds are stored in a overarching [Worlds] folder, and your [settlements] are stored in each individual [world]. If you want to move a world to a safer place, you can simply pick it up. And if you want to put a world into your game, you simply drop the world into the [Worlds] folder!

Here, I'll give you a full Step-by-Step guide on how to download and install my above Winter Fortress World into your game so you can play it! Easy Peasy!

First, let's find the game file. To do this, copy and paste this pathway into Windows Search:
%userprofile%\appdata\local\GrimRealms

This will bring you right to where the game is stored in your computer. It should look something like this. You'll see [languages] on the left, which is your user settings, [prefabs] in the middle, which is for if you've downloaded spawnable terrain from the Steam Workshop, and [Worlds] on the right, which is where your world data is stored. (the rest is a bunch of screenshot I've taken in game)
Our goal is to drop a world file into [Worlds]

Now, without exiting your file explorer, you're going to want to download my World off of google Drive. Click the link in the first section of this guide, and download the .zip file.

Going back to your file explorer, open a new tab so you can have the Game Data Folder and your downloads side by side. To open a new tab is very similar to how you'd do it in Google Chrome.

Downloading this Google Drive file should put it in your file explorers' downloads, seen here:

Go ahead and enter the .zip file by double clicking.
Think of the .zip like a suitcase, and inside is a sheaf of papers. That sheaf is my World. you're simply going to click and drag the world file (my world is called Koih) out and back into your downloads so that it's sitting outside of the .zip

So at this point, you should have this world you downloaded from me sitting out of the .zip file in your downloads. All we've gotta do now is move it into the game! It's a simple drag and drop from the downloads, into the [Worlds] folder of the game data!

And just like that, you're done!
The world will be in the game data and the game can read it, it will handle the rest!
When you open Grim Realms, and select load game, any worlds in that [World] folder will appear here and you can play them like you'd play a world you created yourself!

Likewise, if you want to share a file or create a backup of your save, just reach into [Worlds], do the ol' CTRL + C on the world you want, and paste it anywhere you'd like(I prefer downloads). Then you can .zip it and send it like you'd send a picture! The Discord[discord.gg] is very active and the dev always appreciates people sharing their worlds in bug reports!
Downloading and sharing worlds will have no affect on the game, so you can rest easy if you're no coding genius. You're simply picking up and putting down world files!

I hope this helps and please feel free to ask me anything if you have any more questions. You can also join the Discord for 24/7 help!
Seriously, join the Discord or else I'll put a hole in you...
