Do you...

Want to speed up that 5 minute loading screen?

Lag when you use huge unit caps?

Lose FPS because of too many tyranid walking particles?

This is the fix for all that.
Just the facts.
Sounds good right? But there is some stuff to know before you do.

  • It is recommended you have more then 3 GB of RAM.
The default is 2, if you only have 3 it can cause some problems.

  • It can break some stuff if you are not careful.

  • I did not make this tool. Only the guide.

  • Works 100% with mods I have tested.

  • Tested mods
    Ultimate Apocalypse,
    Firestorm over Kaurava,
    DoWPro,
    Titanium Wars
Step 1: Installing LAA
You will need to visit this link:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachments/laa_2_0_4-zip.34392/

Pretty straight forward.
Step 2: Using LAA
So you downloaded the file. Assuming you have a way to, open it.

You should see somthing like this:

This is the tool. Large Address Aware.

(Note: I will be using Soulstorm for this example, just replace the soulstorm info to use with any other game.)

You are going to want to select your Soulstorm.exe. There are 2 ways to do this.

Way 1: Click the ... button on the end of the address bar. Then browse to and select your DOW folder.

Way 2: Use the default windows explorer to get to your DOW directory. Copy it in to the address bar. (Another way would be to Right click it in Steam Library -> Properties - > Browse local files)

The default directory is
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dawn of War Soulstorm\"

After that, just double click on the .exe file used to run the game. Next thing to do is to click that box. This enables it to use more then 2 GB of RAM. After that just hit the save button and you are good to go!
F.A.Q
Q: Will this work in multiplayer?
A: Yes it does, if all of the players have it.

Q: Does it work with mods?
A: Works 100% with mods I have tested.

Tested mods
Ultimate Apocalypse, [1.8]
Firestorm over Kaurava,
DoWPro,
Titanium Wars

Q: I crash when I load up the game?
A: I have no idea. Make sure you have more then 3 GB of RAM and that everything is done correctly. Ask in the comments if you need to.

Q: How do I turn this off? I don't want to verify game files :(
A: Just select it with LAA and uncheck the box. Its that easy!

Q: Does this work in any other games?
A: Yes! it works on alot of games and programs. Here is a list of confirmed programs:

Galactic Civilizations II
Mass Effect
Saboteur, The
Sid Meier's Railroads!
Corel PaintShop Pro X3
AutoCAD (32-bit versions)
Silent Hunter 4
SimCity 4 Deluxe
Sins of a Solar Empire (Franchise)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Supreme Commander (Franchise)
World Builder for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

Note: Might update this list later.

well, this still helps with Unification mod. Kinda. Still crashes sometimes, but not immediately when you leave main menu at least

Oh yeah about that, turned out the launcher-provided LAA *does* work, the Unification mod I'm using just is way too fckn cluttered with unnecessary sht that it will crash most of the time anyway unless you set your visuals to medium. The LAA provided here is probably outdated and won't work, though I haven't tested it.

@AresOfThrace did it work for you?

@ Seven @Lord BAN: The LAA function provided by the launcher Unification mod uses is broken apparently. I really hope this one works.

It should but most mod loaders have this feature built in now

Does this work with the latest version of Unifications MOD?

Yeah this is pretty out dated now, the mods have come a long way!

@Seven UA and Crucible have there own installers but this post is a good guide to those new to using mods. if your using LAA on the Mod Managers, then your all set. Good job on the post. I always like it when there is more information available than less. :)
