SS Michelangelo

Here is the Italian ocean liner Michelangelo (and Raffaello).


SS Michelangelo and her sister, Raffaello, were the largest ships built in Italy since the SS Rex. They were also one of the last ocean liners built for service in the Atlantic. Raffaello was slightly larger an Michelangelo. In 1966, Michelangelo was hit by a rouge wave in the mid-Atlantic that caused her forward superstructure to collapse which killed a few, and injured many. He was repaired when she made it to port and her superstructure was replaced with steel plates instead of aluminum. Her sister Raffaello also received these, as well as other liners. Raffaello collided with an oil tanker in 1970. No lives were lost, and neither ship was sunk. They were in Italian service from 1965 to 1977 when they were sold to Iran. Plans to refit Michelangelo and Raffaello into luxury cruise ships were made in 1978. Michelangelo was renamed Scià Reza il Grande, and Raffaello was renamed to Ciro il Grande. Italian specialists were sent to evaluate to 2 ships and realized the ships conditions were too poor for them to be refitted and so the 2 ships sat in their moorings. During the Iranian Revolution, Raffaello was heavily damaged and looted. They tried again to refit them into cruise ships in 1983, but the Iran–Iraq War put a stop to the plans for good. Raffaello was hit by an Iraqi missile and sank outside Bushehr. Michelangelo still sat in her moorings until she was scrapped in 1991. The remains of Raffaello's wreck as of 2006 still sit at the bottom of the harbor. She can't be seen from the surface, but buoys do surround her position.

Has bodygroups for lights, lifeboats, anchors, names (her sister Raffaello), and funnel rigging (because due to limitations, the funnels are not bodygroups this time)!
