Welcome to the Dragon's Lair achievement guide.

Dragon's Lair is an arcade classic that was made in 1983 and features drawn animation from the legendary artist, Don Bluth. The game itself is comprised of a series of scenes, some which occur at random placements, with a linear story progression. The game is completed through a series of directional prompts (up, down, left, right).

It's best to begin the game on Easy mode and work your way to Hard and 1983 mode, as memorization is key for the latter two difficulties. Most of the remaining achievements are attained from completing certain events in various scenes, beating the game without dying and achieving a legendary score.

Difficulty
Save Me!
Completed the game
Simply complete the game on any mode.

Quest Complete
Completed the game in Hard mode
You will need to complete the game on Hard mode, and beware you will not be able to obtain Lair King on this difficulty; one point is missing during the first whirlpool in the Raging Waters scene.

1983 Mode
Completed the game with the move guide turned off
Quite possibly the most frustrating achievement to acquire. From the main menu, select Help & Options > Settings > Move Guide and select "Off". Look for the flashes of light that indicate which button prompt that you need, and when in doubt turn to YouTube guides for additional help.
Scene Specific
When going for these achievements, it's best to do so in Home mode. This mode allows you to repeat any scene so long as you do not complete it; versus Arcade mode which changes the scene each time you die.

Eat Me
Lost your last life in the Drink Me scene... and watched carefully
Wait until you come to a scene where you see a potion that has a tag that states "Drink Me". No matter how many lives you have, lose them all on this scene until you've lost your final one.

Choked Out
Died via asphyxiation in the bedroom scene
This achievement can only be obtained on Hard mode. You will come to a scene with a room that begins to close in on you. Press either left or right and this will cause the room to fill with toxic gas.

Giddy Gone
Used the shortcut move in the Giddy Goons Room
This achievement can only be obtained on Easy mode. You will come to a room with stairs on the right of the screen, at the very top a 'Giddy Goon' will spawn. You need to enter the following shortcut move correctly in order for this achievement to populate. After you press right to walk up the stairs, BEFORE the Giddy Goon appears, press up. Doing this will skip the Goon appearing and the scene will end.

Going Down
Got off on the 9th floor of the falling platform.
Every now and then Dirk will get on a large, purple circle that acts as an elevator of sorts. Allow the platform to fall to the third ledge but do not jump off. If the elevator continues downward, it will eventually descend to the 9th ledge. Keep a head count of how many you're bypassing, and make sure to get off at the 9th.
Misc.
Bumbling Knight
Never made a correct move in a new game
Simply begin a new game in Home mode and repeatedly press the wrong direction to die. Make a wrong move five times in a row and do not choose to continue.

One More Quarter
Complete the game in Arcade Mode
Simply choose Arcade mode when creating a new game and complete the story.

Date with Daphne
Played Dragon’s Lair on its anniversary: June 19
All the advice that I can give is to mark it on your calender.

Flawless
Completed the game with five lives
You'll automatically begin each game with five lives and you must not die (make a wrong move) for the entire game; easily one of the most frustrating achievements to attain. The best method for this achievement is to begin a game on Easy mode and save at the beginning of each scene so that if you die, your game can be reloaded.

Lair King
Got a high score of 427,469
This achievement is only obtainable on Easy Arcade mode. Hard mode is missing one point and Home mode is missing 49 points. You will want to save at the beginning of each scene, so that in the event that you die your game can just be reloaded. You must make it all the way to the dragon's lair without dying. Here are some tips to ensure that you get the proper amount of points.
Falling Circular Platform Scenes: There are four versions of this scene; 3 ledge and 9 ledge, each mirrored. To obtain a perfect score, you must jump off the platform at the last possible ledge. This is where saving is crucial as it is difficult to tell if you are on a 3 or 9 ledge scene.
Mist Room with Snakes Scene: It is possible to miss out on 49 points here. Ensure that you do not do a shortcut here by bypassing the third in the series of A button prompts (if playing with a controller). You should input four moves on this scene, not three.
Once you reach the Dragon's Lair scene, you should have 288,494 points. When the scene starts and Dirk exclaims "Wow!", another 49 points is added to your total making your score 288,543. Save your game here if you have the required points.
You will want to continue playing through this scene as normal, however when you get to the final move to kill the dragon do not continue. Let the dragon kill you, and do this a total of four times. Save your game each time you start the scene over again. On your last life kill the dragon.
After your first death, after Dirk says "Wow", you should have 315,338 and 4 lives left. Save.
After your second death, after Dirk says "Wow", you should have 342,133 and 3 lives left. Save.
After your third death, after Dirk says "Wow", you should have 368,928 and 2 lives left. Save.
After your fourth and final death, after Dirk says "Wow", you should have 395,723 and 1 life left. Save.
Now, on your final life and when you defeat Singe, you should have 427,469 points.
Wrap Up
Good luck in your achievement hunting!

Just got mine. Basically had my eyes glued to the move guide in the bottom center. It also helps to keep a mental memory of the number of levels when anticipating the floor drops each 13th level. So if the floor drop appears sooner than expected, then its a 3 floor. And to clarify on the snake room, its three attacks, and then move up. But in the end, I got 427,848 and it did unlock.

You're right, how could I miss that information. This game is my life.

The 9 Floor drop events occur every 13th scene! Everyone else are 3-floor. How could you miss that information?
