You must enter the battle settings and select your character from the Character tab.

If you’re in the Battle Hub, look at the top right of your screen and press the button that shows up there.

These are the default buttons to check the Battle Settings in SF6:

PlayStation Controller: Square button
Xbox Controller: X button
Keyboard: R

Select your character and press the confirm button

On keyboard the confirm button is F

You can also change your control scheme by pressing T
(For controller players you should see button options pop up on the screen it small but it there)
