What is a level editor?
A level editor is a way to express yourself and create whatever you want for a game. In this case, you can expand the game's life and play with it again and again.
A overview of the editor
When you open the game's level editor you'll see something like this

You have first, the item selector

It allows you with the mouse roller and the up & down arrow key to choose an object to place in your level

You have next the music selector

It allows you to choose the music that will be played in the level

And finally you have the rest of the buttons of the UI

  • A floppy disk icon to save your project
  • A trash icon to erase your level
  • A play icon to test your level
  • A question mark icon to view the tiny ingame tutorial
  • A door icon to leave the level editor

You can use the right & left arrow key to move around in the level and you can also drag and drop the player to change it's starting position
Place things in the level
To place things on your level select the object you want to place, you'll see it at your cursor

If the object is like a knife for example you'll see it's hitbox/trigger area

To place an object, left click, to delete one, right click to delete one, but be careful you can delete multiples objects at once if the mouse is hovering them before right clicking

You can place as many objects as you want

And make a level that for example looks like this
Object's settings
If you want your level to be more interactive, you can change the settings of some objects. We'll take a look at each object and their settings that you can change

First, the player. By right clicking on it you'll see this little menu

You can choose the color of the player that will be used in your level between red and blue and it's position by a drag and drop

Next, the platforms. By placing one you can choose if they're staying still, moving and choose it's direction

It will place the object with the setting you set. To edit the platform, you can't, just delete it and replace it

And for the last, the button. When placing one you'll see this menu

You can choose a color for the button and it's setting, clicking the button again with a left click will bring up this menu again

You can set these settings:

  • Ground: Will delete all of the ground
  • Spikes: Will bring up the nearest spikes TOUCHING the button
  • Rock: Will fall the nearest rock TOUCHING the button
  • Knife: Will throw the nearest knife TOUCHING the button
  • Wall: Will break the nearest wall

By touching the button I mean the hitbox/trigger area. If you select the rock setting for example and your level is looking like this

This won't work as the rock's trigger area isn't touching the button. To make this work, the layout of the elements should look like this

Save, test and publish your level
Once you finished yout level you can save it by clicking the save icon

Name your level and then save it

To test your level you can click on the play icon

You can also go to the menu and go to "your levels" menu where you can see all of your levels

You'll see 3 buttons to the right

  • Load: To load the level in the editor
  • Play: To play the level without entering the editor mode
  • Open folder: to open the folder where all of your levels are

And finally to publish your level, go to the publish menu

Select the level you want to publish, select a thumbnail for it, put a name, a description and hit publish to publish it the Steam workshop
